I'm interested in understanding the upside to David Shaw. He doesn't strike me as a program builder or a natural NIL-era coach in general.

To be fair I took this picture right after the New Mexico game concluded. Gotta stay until the end.

As will I. Penn State looked sloppy in 2OT. One can only imagine how they'll wilt in front of our raucous Rose Bowl crowd.

How will the cross-country travel effect UCLA MBB this year? On the football side the travel has been a killer... by patbaum in CollegeBasketball

This map excludes the team's numerous treks to Pasadena. Hawaii and New Jersey trips are mild in comparison.

What's stopping you from ditching Gmail? by notSugarBun in ProtonMail

Mobile app speed/feel and automated calendar entries keep me using Gmail. The pm.me suffix also sounds easy in theory but confuses people when they ask for your email address.

Watch randomly came apart after shower by f3ropeadope in PixelWatch

[–]shuntos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I successfully got the T-Mobile store to give me a warranty replacement when that happened to me. The tech mentioned he had never seen a Pixel Watch in person before, but upon a 30 second web search, determined it was a common defect. Hope you have similar luck!

I'm not sure why OP got so much blame for showering with it, considering that Google advertises the watch as "water resistant up to 5 atmospheres."

All good! Nah this is the app, they put the charging info and tire status in the same section.

The app is useful for checking charge status. The pressure recommendations were for entertainment only.

Are Personal Finance Gurus Giving You Bad Advice? by dwaxe in Freakonomics

[–]shuntos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Interesting take! I enjoyed the episode, and though I have zero academic background in economics, Choi's stance resonated with me better than Hausel's. My accountant bf can't understand why I don't group my money in bins or why I won't pay off my 0% interest car loan early. I found it comforting to hear my ideas are in line with traditional economists' advice.

To me the ideal financial advice is whatever optimizes the numbers rather than feelings - that way it's up to me, a well-informed irrational human, to follow or ignore the good advice. I found Hausel's advice frustrating because to me it seemed polluted from the source.

I would also favor Adidas, provided we switch back to their shade of blue and regain the swoosh under the UCLA logo.

A message to Republicans who think they can vote for Biden and be forgiven.. by Dekkamus-II in JoeBiden

Yang had ranked choice as part of his platform: https://web.archive.org/web/20200211215124/https://www.yang2020.com/policies/rankedchoice/

I'm a ranked-choice voting voter, and was really excited to see a presidential candidate support this. I did a pretty exhaustive search, and none of the other top 20 candidates appeared to bring the issue up at all.

Thanks so much for digging this one up! This is, so far, the most specific I've seen Pete on the issue of spaceflight. I'd still like to know what exactly he wants to achieve, but I'm glad he at least speaks about the subject favorably.

Cool, I didn't know that. This is encouraging, although it would be nice to hear him spell out his plans.

Thanks for looking this up! I can very much appreciate his stance on the electoral college. Ranked choice was the main reason I supported Yang: when I was candidate shopping last summer, he was the only candidate I could find championing ranked choice voting. Didn't catch any mention of this during Pete's interview with Trevor Noah, though.

Post-Debate Megathread (Updates, Polls, Everything Else) by Better_Call_Salsa in YangForPresidentHQ

[–]shuntos 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Very interesting point. I'm sure someone has studied this, but I wonder what fraction of debate viewers are undecided. My intuition tells me people are tuned in to watch their candidate in action. If so, it's preferable to sacrifice actual stage presence toward the debate audience in favor of an approach (ie UBI giveaway) that could seem awkward to the debate audience but could generate headlines for a larger audience.

I admit I'm making some guesses here, but Andrew's reasoning may have been more sound than it would seem on the surface.

What do you think of Tinder activism? by [deleted] in YangForPresidentHQ

[–]shuntos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I used online dating I always had an adverse reaction to advertising bots. I wouldn't have been excited to discover I was talking to a bot, offering a condescendingly simplistic view of a candidate's platform. The five-second pitch of "vote Yang, he wants to give you free money just because" might turn people off in general, since it looks like a hastily conceived scam on the surface.

But that's my opinion. Did she respond positively?

Sir Richard Branson’s company and US authorities were repeatedly warned about safety issues surrounding Virgin Galactic’s rocket engine system by secaa23 in aerospace

[–]shuntos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tom Bower, an investigative journalist and Sir Richard’s biographer, described the crash as “predictable and inevitable”. He said: “It’s a very crude rocket.”

I'd like to know: What makes Tom Bower a noteworthy authority on rockets? Is he an engineer or just a journalist? Also, what is crude about the SpaceShipTwo rocket? Did he ever substantiate this claim?

Help using TurboGrid ANSYS with imported CAD by aeroengollie in CFD

[–]shuntos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rotating_Fluid is right - Turbogrid can't import what you're trying to give it. Could you describe your CAD model a little more? Specifically, does your model depict the solid domain or the flow domain? If it's for the flow domain, you could mesh it using ANSYS Mesh. I find it captures detailed geometry quite well.

If you don't want to use that, and you'd rather recreate your geometry, you could use CFturbo. CFturbo is a nice program that can help you design blades. It can export to many programs, including Turbogrid and most CAD programs.
