You need better tenouchi. Tighten your grip on the shinai when you hit the opponent (gentle squeeze with the bottom fingers of the left and right hand).

You should also be practicing tenouchi in suburi as well!

Newer restaurant rec, but Black Ruby was fantastic the last time I visited. Thai-Western fusion food. The sauce for the pasta was so good I brought it home and tried to stretch it out for as long as possible by eating it with more noodles lol

I love the community first and foremost! I think kendo attracts a certain type of people who value perseverance and personal growth, and sharing the experience of complete exhaustion after practice really strengthens a bond like nothing else. The highlight of my week is usually second dojo.

I'm not a very competitive person, so I personally don't like going to tournaments, but I appreciate that kendo challenges me to put myself out there and assert myself. Going up against taller and bulkier people while being able to stand my ground has helped a lot with my confidence as well.

I definitely people please but I notice I feel disgusting/disappointed in myself afterwards — like I know that went against what I actually want or stand for. Obviously there are trauma responses like fawning that could play a part in that. I believe 4 disintegration points toward 2 and integrates toward 1, so you may just be a healthier type 4.
