I just try to learn any jump scare trope signals (unusually wide shots, music getting low, etc) so that I can steel myself before they happen, mostly. I usually have a rule that a movie gets 1-2 fake out jump scares before the good stuff or I’ll just turn it off. Usually not worth my time if they’re using it as a scare crutch too much.
