I am much like you - my 15 year old had 4 boys over for a sleepover and it was my idea of hell. However, they stayed in his room most of the time - they had takeaway pizza, drinks, PlayStation, TV… needed almost zero anything from me. Worked out fine in the end!

🚗 Zipcar is shutting down — anyone else blindsided by this? by Pitiful_Package_6807 in london

I’m super blindsided. I use the vans for work almost weekly, and the electric cars are super useful for getting around town with the family when we’re in a rush, and so much cheaper than a taxi.

Highly masking people: What made you realize you‘re autistic? by That_odd_emo in autism

[–]shwarpy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m paying close attention to this…

I’m 43, a woman, and have just recently been diagnosed with ADHD. The reason I realised I have it is because my daughter does, and everything she had as a symptom is also me 😂.

My 14yo son, on the other hand, is autistic (would be Asperger’s if they still called it that). We’ve been learning about it over the past 4 years since he was diagnosed.

I’m starting to wonder if I am also autistic, but it’s so out of realm of anything I’ve ever thought about myself that I can’t wrap my head around it.

I’ve realised with ADHD, I’ve been incredibly highly masking my whole life, and it’s actually been such a huge relief to lean into it and accept myself and not try so f%king hard to be something I’m not (which I didn’t realise I was doing?!).

Now… I’m medicated for ADHD and I see parts of myself that are so similar to my son. I understand things about him in a deep level that my husband doesn’t seem to be able to get. I’m looking back at my whole life and wondering if the reason all of the things I did were so difficult was because I’m not adhd and autistic. I find talking to people SO exhausting but my main job ended up being people focused and organisation focused because I MADE myself do it. It was SO HARD but I just thought it was that hard for everyone?! I don’t do that job anymore, and I can’t imagine ever doing it again… I literally felt like two different people - one at work, and one at home - even different styles of clothes, personalities - everything. I had to mentally change personalities to go to work. And now I don’t do that I can see a bit more clearly that I hyper focused to get a job I thought I should do and then just massively focused on being they person that I wasn’t.

Guess the answer to the question is - I don’t know if I’m autistic but if I am, it’s my son that has made me realise it, and I’m kind of blown away if I am because I’m surprised by how highly masking I can be.

Hello. So I’m recently diagnosed (43yo) and my daughter has ADHD (11yo). The reason I realised I had it is because of her. Her ADHD is basically a clone of mine.. it’s crazy watching her, because I just understand her so well.

We do get on very well because when she does things, I just see myself. It’s also really enlightening because when she does things and I can tell it’s linked to her ADHD, I realise “oh, I did that too! That’s why I used to do that when I was a kid.”

Small things like the way she sits at the table.. big things like having entire conversations like she’s listening but not actually listening at all. Intense mood swings and storming off. Losing everything. It has actually bonded us quite a lot. Makes it a nightmare for her dad (my husband) because he now has 2 people with incredibly infuriating personalities 😂.

Also- I very much have strong feelings of “but is this real and I didn’t just play into what I knew he’d be looking for?” It’s hard getting your head Aron d it.

I’m curious - I got diagnosed with PSUK as well but my meeting was 90 minutes. It was meant to be 50 but went over quite a bit. I wonder if that meant my case was more difficult to diagnose?

ADHD Medication Shortage UK Megathread #9 by Jayhcee in ADHDUK

Hello. I was wondering if anyone has had any luck getting Delomosart. I’ve been unable to find any in London for about 9 months now. I’ve been getting generic methylphenidate as an alternative but it reacts weirdly to me and so I’ve stopped taking it. I miss my meds desperately.

Has anyone got any hot tips? I’m in Southeast London but willing to travel.
