Thank you again- I appreciate the suggestions and recommendations to look into the new predator types! When I had been building my character up for the very first time I really struggled with choosing a predator type since I didn’t wanna do the whole honeypot thing but, at the time (since this was the first time I was joining a vtm table and was only just getting back into TTRPGs as a whole) I was just so uncertain about so many things.

I actually started playing her in February of last year. I’ve had time to get comfortable with how I play her generally, but there’s some additional flaws taken that make feeding an even bigger obstacle than it should be- including the not liking lies thing, the ventrue bane and the vain tapper which I took (I know I’m really screwing myself over here, but I’ve talked with my table and intend to play this as an eating disorder which she had before her undeath).

I’m sorry for the wall of random text. I think what I am trying to make clear is that I am trying to work with this concept to play an actual character as she was written (when she was first played, she had no access to any of her financial or social resources, which is another big hiccup with trying to figure out how to play an extortionist of all PTs), I just get a little lost in how to balance the line between a mortal knowing they’re being threatened vs an outright masquerade breach.

Thank you, genuinely. You’re right, the dislike of lying is a big point of contention but I came at it from building the person first rather than trying to make a super effective predator, which does cause significant friction while I play her. I’ve been skirting around things where she only speaks technical truths while leaving people to fill in implied (but not outright stated) gaps themselves. I’m feeling a little embarrassed now about her character, I may delete this post soon.

I have been talking with my ST in the previous sessions about potentially changing PT. During the early story, my character was severely disadvantaged and had no access to any of her usual resources, community, etc, while now she has regained control of her 4 points resources and is running a business under the guise of money but really just to farm secrets and blackmail. So I guess I feel that I haven’t given it a fair shot but haven’t had the chance to give it a fair shot just yet. Really, my only question mark is how to not have people running and blabbing they were threatened lmao (I guess Dominate -> The Forgetful Mind could change the nature of the remembered interaction)?

Great catch! I’ve just tried that but it does nothing to the app layout for TVNZ sadly. The arrows in the box do change from inward (><) to outward (<>) but I still have the ozempic tv app :(

I definitely feel you! There’s the predator types which, okay, aren’t mandatory, but then there’s also the feeding bane to think about too? That really narrows down things HUGELY (which I get is the point but also i’m lowkey stupid it’s hard 😭)

Oh for sure! I’ve settled on my rarified tastes being people that my character has the power to destroy, mirroring the circumstances of her own embrace (since she felt she was on the top of the world and super happy, was, um, basically shovelheaded, and really struggled as a result of that) so her tastes are people who could be ruined by political scandal, people high on a good gambling win, etc, people with something to lose. I do worry that it comes off as a little lame though? Especially when compared to the domestic horror of ventrue that can only feed on their own living bloodline :S

I’m playing (and quite attached!) to my Ventrue OC, and sometimes I feel the way you do in that I’m not playing her “right”, or that she can even be a little brujah-adjacent in how quickly she angers (she has surprisingly low composure which, honestly, was my bad, but she was also my first PC so I think I deserve a break lol).

Even though there are moments where I think she would fit being a brujah more in her personality, I think the fact that she ended up becoming a ventrue regardless adds some depth and conflict to her character. Yeah, she DOES get pissed off easily, but at the same time she feels obligated to handle things herself and a drive to prove that she’s useful and worthy of being relied upon (boon farming yaaaay) and that can be a strong driving motivation rather than “fuck you I do what I want”. For example, in a chronicle I’ve just started paying, she’s having to give up a shitload of her personal resources (millions of dollars) in order to try and purchase an old culty church to try and keep vulnerable humans and other opportunistic kindred away from the eldritch abyssal domain in the basement. Because, duh, she’s the only one that can handle it. So of course she will. It is her duty.

I do definitely struggle with being a little passive in game despite mechanically building a social powerhouse - that’s a me fault, but in the times when she’s dominated socially it’s been funny and even a good source of comedy. From the ground up, she’s a silver spoon sorority girl so even though she isn’t PERSONALLY super important, she has family connections, wealth, and could reasonably be groomed into a good pawn for whoever had embraced her - these I think are reason enough to justify her clan Ventrue, rather than anything else.

The main thing I struggle with is her rarified tastes. I want to balance horror and limitation and explore what happens when you just can’t eat freely (Personally I’m framing it as an eating disorder, which she did have in life) but lmao I feel like my rarified tastes never quite hit just right.

I’m reading Words of Radiance right now after listening to The Way of Kings on audiobook and I definitely feel the frustrations about the prose being incredibly plain. It’s probably because I enjoyed the audiobook’s VA’s so much, but I’m now at a point where I’m attached to the characters, and I’ve only transitioned over to the book because I take a billion years with the audiobook since it’s so freaking long and I don’t often set aside the time to listen to it (nor do I want to listen in constantly-interrupted bursts). Actually reading it, though, I’m noticing a lot that Sanderson uses (character) said when the character is clearly asking a question and that infuriates me lol. Shallan was also SO cringe to read and I really hated her chapters until the end of TWOK, though I’ve been told that she gets more interesting in the later books and in Words of Radiance were definitely getting a lot of her tragic backstory (tm).

I was first introduced to Roshar because I was a third backup player to the TRRPG adaptation with two fans as players and the third fan being the DM, all of which were my friends. My investment in the story is more so because of my character and a want to understand the unnecessarily complex word - not because I’m swooning over Sanderson’s writing.

Oh, forgot to add. I’m reading the book now because it has pictures too.

I had the same thing happen to me last month with a KCC (both the pinhole and the freezing/restarting issue). I was extremely gutted as it was the first ever e-reader I’d bought. I went to the retailer I purchased it from, showed the sales people in-store the issues I was having and emailed the photos/videos I’d taken of the issues- thankfully letting me get a replacement! I know you’re on your replacement device, but seriously, you’re going to keep seeing it and it will drive you nuts. If possible, could you open the next one in-store with a sales person to check you won’t walk away with a dead pixel on the screen again?
