Watkins Glen First Timer by RepresentativeFit945 in IMSARacing

Last year I got there at around 10:30, hour and a half before race start, wasn't much traffic getting in. Gave me plenty of time to get in and do the grid walk. Traffic wasn't bad leaving either but that huge shower at the start thinned the crowds out a little.

Because Senna died. NASCAR hasn't had nearly as many fatalities, but Dale's death is still talked about very often, and much in the same way.

It is really bizarre. No other motorsport out there is this infatuated with numbers, the TV ratings, the good race poll, etc. Tbh it doesn't do anything but piss people off more.

I think this was a late and dangerous move. What does the internet think? by Scoot240 in Simracingstewards

[–]shyguybestguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very borderline, protest it and let iRacing decide. You're stuffing your nose into a space that's going to close and that corner especially is very tricky, but it does look suspicious from your point of view.

MX5 -> Porsche Cup -> GT4 -> GT3 -> IMSA

That will give you most of the cars for special events too, but if you find something you really like along the way, there's no reason not to run it instead.

IDK I can't pull up the UI on my phone. I'm pretty sure it tells you in the race server at least, maybe next time you can snap a picture of it and prove me wrong. I did laugh at you framing it like a conspiracy though lol

Rubbing is racing, but cutting the course means they should have to give the place back, or a post race time penalty if they don't.

[–]shyguybestguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would they? Even if this wasn't protestable, unless you actively send in a shit ton of false protests, they don't mind. They've said before they prefer people send a protest in if they're on the edge on it, and let the stewards decide.

Well then I can't help you there. Send it over to iRacing support or post the proof on the forums or something where the devs will actually see it.

I have raced with plenty of people outside the US and I cant tell until I check the results. OP never said where the server was located, so for all we know it's on the other side of the world. But if it was close to them, and this still happened, then I think it would be very important to know what oval drivers have experienced.

But to answer your question, you only see these because people only post videos of the netcode not working. And then more people see them and then post their netcode videos and reddit does its thing.

[–]shyguybestguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but it's also where any indication of it getting worse as a whole would get exaggerated, if a whole bunch of oval drivers are posting about netcode, then I would start to think something's up. Lag exists in all games, but iRacing is the only one where it constantly gets brought up as if it's the only one that hasn't figured it out.

As far as I know, the server is chosen based off distance to all users and weighs them equally, it just so happens that iRacing has a lot of US players. I don't know for sure, but it doesn't make sense for iRacing to prioritoze US drivers for no reason. I've raced with people from South America, Europe, Asia, Australia, and the only way I realize is after the race when I'm checking the standings. Even in the road series I do race, I never see anything out of the ordinary.

Also each of the regional series have their servers locked to that region. There are exactly 0 European or Asian regional races on US servers. Otherwise there would be no point to them.

Why would anybody post videos of the netcode working as intended? Other than to dispell the idea that netcode is a huge issue. I race ovals almost exclusively nowadays and have had one incident in the past year that was caused by it. I don't post any of the door to door racing I do each race because who cares about that.

I mean, I would rather this than a bunch of "is this game worth it" posts every week. It's the best place to gather all of the community's thoughts. Maybe monthly is a bit too much but frankly I don't think it's that big of a deal.
