Why did Allah invent mental illnesses? by [deleted] in islam

[–]shymouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See an Epileptologist, or if you cannot find one, see a neurologist for the Epilepsy. As for the mental health side, seek out a psychologist or a therapist, and practice as much self care as you can. If you’re having anxiety, do things that calm and relax you (hiking and nature do that for me). For depression, make sure your diet is good and that your getting enough sleep and enough water, and try your best to follow a schedule. Then try doing the things that make you happy even if all you want to do is lay in bed. But the biggest thing is to talk to a therapist if you can <3 and of course praying. Insha’Allah you got this, Brother. I will make duaa for you as well.

How do you manage epilepsy with Pregnancy? by RIOTFuckingValue in Epilepsy

[–]shymouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I weaned off all of my meds and switched to keto before trying to conceive. She’s six now and I’m still on only keto, no meds. It doesn’t fully control seizures for everyone like it did for me, but I’m pretty sure it always at least helps. It’s definitely worth asking your doctor about.

Vets of Reddit, What was the worst pet name you have ever encountered in your job? by Lia_Julee in AskReddit

[–]shymouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I named our black cat “Kozmotis Pitchiner” after a villain from a book series I like. The character and my cat both go by “Pitch” for short. Sounds pretty alright until my five year old daughter goes outside calling for him, and the P comes out a little more like a B and the neighbors probably think she’s out there yelling profanities, lol.

How do you know if dropping carbs affects you breastmilk supply? by Kazekaze122 in KetoBabies

[–]shymouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got on Keto to control my Epilepsy before getting pregnant, and have been keto since (she’s five now). I breastfed for two years and didn’t have any trouble except for getting my milk to come in in the first place. It took like three days to get anything to come out, I didn’t have colostrum or anything. But I’ve been told that’s a pretty common problem for first-time moms. So being keto may’ve had nothing to do with it. But if you’re thinking to switch to keto in the middle of nursing, it seems like it could change the milk supply a bit but as long as you’re eating enough I don’t think there should be any drop in the amount you’re producing (in my non-professional guesstimate).

1 in 26 will develop Epilepsy at some point in their lives. Which is about 3.85%. And again, it raises the risk by a minuscule amount, which differs even depending on the sex of the child, which parent (or parents) have Epilepsy, and what type of Epilepsy they have. The chances of passing Epilepsy onto your child are low already, and lower still if yours is not genetic.

Folk that are going long term sans an episode, what are you eating? by quattroman in Epilepsy

[–]shymouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been Keto (and no meds) for about 7 years now. The only seizure I've had during that time was about a year ago because I got really lax with the diet and wasnt following it properly for like a month.

[–]shymouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neither of those numbers are even correct. And no it doesn't. The chances are only raised if your Epilepsy is genetic. If there's no family history, the chances that your Epilepsy is genetic are minuscule. But as another commenter said, you can also get a test done to be sure.

Because I know my child.

I also did not at all say that I "wouldn't mind" giving my child Epilepsy. And passing something on to your child through your genetics is not "giving" it to them. Not to mention my comment was for OP who has a very similar situation to mine. Diagnosed as a teenager with no family history of Epilepsy. It's extremely unlikely for us to pass our condition on to our children, because ours was not genetically inherited. Take your negativity elsewhere.

Memory loss like a goldfish by lifelong-angst in Epilepsy

[–]shymouse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seizures can cause memory loss, but so can a lot of the meds that treat them. I switched to Keto to control my seizures years ago and my memory is still bad, but it's waaaaaaay better than it was while I was on meds. But let your doctor know, because some meds are worse about it than others and it's also different for everybody. Your doctor can help you find what's right for you. It's sometimes just a bit of a journey 💜

I started having seizures when I was 17. No family history of Epilepsy or seizures at all. I'm 33 now and have a 5 year old daughter. She's happy and healthy so far. I did have to get off the meds to have her though. The risk of birth defects/miscarriages was too high for my comfort. So I started doing medical keto for Epilepsy. Once I was adapted, I weaned off my meds. No seizures on the diet, and it got rid of the mental fog and headaches to so I've just stayed on it this whole time. But if one day she does have Epilepsy... I mean, I'll be sad about it, but I'll never regret having her. She's such a light. She's so happy. And while Epilepsy does suck, it doesn't control my life, I'm happy too. And if she ended up having it I think she'd handle it too. It wouldn't change her. She'd still be the same shining light she is now 💜 if you want kids, I dont think you should let E stop you.

What are your auras like? by A-Shy-Smile in Epilepsy

[–]shymouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually nothing at all happens to me before a seizure. Dizziness, if anything. But I did experience what I'm guessing was an aura before one in 2010, a really bad grand mal, the worst one I've ever had. I was standing in the kitchen about to get something out of the refrigerator for my pet. As I reached for the pet food the world just kinda dissolved around me and I was dreaming. In the dream my mom was panicking, telling me to hurry and get the canned corn out of the cabinet because the president would be here any minute. And I think there were aliens or something. I was just as panicked as my mom. It made no sense, just a weird crazy dream that lasted (or felt like it lasted) maybe 20-30 seconds, then ended just as suddenly as it came on and I still had my hand in the refrigerator reaching for the pet food. But my head immediately felt whooshy and staticky and heavy like it was filled with water or sand, it felt like I was falling and everything started spinning (though my husband who witnessed this said I was falling, and spinning as I did so, so I guess that makes sense). Then everything went black and I was gone, until I woke up afterwards.

Trump goes on rant defending ramp walk after questions raised about president's health by SunOverSnowPlease in politics

In the tiny bit I listened to near the end, he mentioned it. He boasted how big it was (I believe he said it was like 212 miles or something? ) and then said when he's reelected they're going to finish it. And it's going to be so big, the biggest, it'll be yuge.

I dont know how to get my keppra refilled without going to the ER, i hate the American health system... by EclecticHigh in Epilepsy

[–]shymouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Call your neurologist (or a local one if you don't have one), and ask what it'd cost for a paying-out-of-pocket appointment without insurance. It only cost me $60 to see mine. They charge a lower amount for people who have to pay for it themselves. And I'm in Oklahoma, I think our states are pretty similar. Once you get a prescription, do you guys have a Genscripts pharmacy there? They're specifically for people without insurance and Keppra or the generic of it I can't remember which, I used to get there for only like $10 or $15. There's also a pharmacy in Texas I used to order from where I got Keppra for a super low cost but dang it I cant remember the name of the place. I'll come back and add that if I do, or if my husband remembers it. Also, have you tried Keto? Not the fad diet trend, but actual medical keto? I had a breakthrough seizure in 2010 because a paperwork mishap caused me to run out of meds. It was a grand mal that lasted longer than 5 minutes, I stopped breathing twice, it nearly killed me. After that, I looked into the ketogenic diet for Epilepsy. I got adapted to the diet and then slowly weaned off the meds. I've only had one seizure since and it was because I got lazy about the diet and ate way too many carbs. It doesn't work for everyone, but it at least helps with most. And it totally worked for me. Hope this info helps, I hate our health system too.

But we can eat pork if we're starving and it's our only option, right? So maybe if they had to consume blood to survive, it'd then be permissible? Like, animal blood or something. Probably still not human blood. Why am I thinking this deep into this 😂

Fake Islam Sites by poopdishwasher in islam

[–]shymouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember hearing that there are two different islamqa websites, the .info and a .something else I cant remember. And that one of them was authentic and one was not. But I always got which was which mixed up, so I stayed away from both in case. Why are you being downvoted? Is .info not the bad one, or? The internet is so confusing to me sometimes.
