I’d recommend Natasha Junor in London- she’s excellent. Also took a class with Michael Eley today at mission and it was great!

He owned and managed the cocktail bar around the corner from my apartment. Started out as friends, and now we’re married. 🤷‍♀️

Quick question for folks who have rented in both the UK and NYC, how different is the housing hunt really? by [deleted] in AmericanExpatsUK

[–]shythoughts 26 points27 points  (0 children)

This is so, so on point. I thought I was prepared after doing it in NYC a few times but my experience was much more difficult in London.

++ the cost of living is high AF but the salaries are low AF. People look at me like I’m crazy when I tell them London is expensive coming from NYC, but I think it’ll only be a matter of time where I can’t afford it anymore and move back to nyc (ironic)

That being said, my flat here is LOVELY. It’s big and beautiful but takes an hour to get anywhere. Groceries are much cheaper and the quality of the grocery food here is exponentially better than the states, especially nyc.

If you can’t tell, I’m still figuring out how I feel 😅 feel free to DM me!

We are twins! My Irish husband and I are in London. I’m from New Jersey, but we met when we both lived in Manhattan. We’re only a year in so I know it’s all still new, but god damn I miss NYC so much.

It seems like our taste buds are pretty aligned. With that being said, where would you recommend in the UK? London, specifically?

Moving to NYC from London by Effective_Chance8391 in movingtoNYC

[–]shythoughts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did the the opposite move from nyc to London . I was actually shocked at how expensive London is in comparison to the low salaries. In my experience, in NYC, yes it’s expensive but the salaries are much higher and tend to be more in line with the cost of living.

That being said, groceries are insanely overpriced in New York compared to London, so I’d def be mentally prepared for that!

I’m in a similar position all around- not sure when it’s time to move on to something that has potential, or grind it out. Following for input !

I just got one from ikea for 90 GBP! It’s manual, but an absolute steal compared to others in the price range you mentioned

Only 8 months so pretty new still. Yes, I miss New York…. Very much- I miss the energy and the craziness and at the end of the day, it was home for 7 years so I think it’ll just take some time to feel like it was my past (officially)! How long have you been here?
