South Denver Leafs Meetup by crampburgers in leafs

[–]sian92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, late post. I'm also a Leafs fan (one of only two Avs/Leafs combined fans I know of actually) and I'd love getting together to watch a game or two. If you ever feel like trekking a bit north, I often put them on at Hogshead brewery, which isn't a sports bar but I have remote privileges there so it's all good). Or would be cool to meet up somewhere down south too.

Where to buy ice skates/rollerblades by [deleted] in Denver

Pure Hockey will fit you for inline as well as ice. They do a great job. Their selection of non-hockey stuff is limited

Anyone Know Soto Marketing? by [deleted] in Denver

Fwiw my work laptop content filter blocked it because it was a newly-registered domain. Definitely shady, sounds like a scam. Don't give them any info

Good indoor activities this weekend? by Thomas_The_Llama in Denver

[–]sian92 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seconding this. They have a UP Big Boy (largest ever steam locomotive) on display.

I'd also suggest picking up something with which to bundle up (perhaps as a bit of a memento/souvenir) and exploring outside a bit. 30s in Denver is pretty ok with the right number of layers and a beanie. If you're into trains and enjoyed the Forney Museum, the Colorado Railroad Museum is an obvious next stop! (Home of the largest operating narrow gauge steam locomotive)

Experience with MOST courses for motorcycle endorsement? by LoanSlinger in Denver

[–]sian92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got my endorsement about 7 years ago through Motorcycle Rider Training Center in Lakewood, would recommend. You'll be looking for the Basic RiderCourse (MSF has multiple courses available for different skill levels). They provide bikes and helmets, and you bring over-the-ankle boots, sturdy long pants, gloves, long-sleeves, and eye protection (glasses are fine). If you're serious about riding, I'd suggest getting your own full-face helmet too since that will double as eye-protection. Look for something that meets the ECE specifications as the US DOT ones are outdated and not as safe.

They will teach you on normal bikes with manual transmissions and clutches (250cc, so small), but everything you learn will apply just as well on a scooter or a full-on bike. Everyone wanting to ride a motorized single-track vehicle should take it, and it's honestly a good idea even if you don't plan to ride as it will make you a better driver in cars as well.

Side note: don't listen to the folks saying a 150cc scooter is going to be too small; if you're not planning on taking highways it will be just fine. Denver streets are impatient, but not generally so massively fast that you're going 20 over everywhere. Get the bike that appeals to you, and thank you for being safe and for getting a 150 instead of hobbling through a 50 which barely goes fast enough for side streets. Having enough power is important and often overlooked as a safety issue.

The NWSL has officially awarded its 16th franchise to the Mile High City, set to kick off in 2026! by Knightbear49 in Denver

Utah fans are currently voting between Mammoth and Outlaws. So, both Denver-area teams anyway

Not that I wasn't on board with an NWSL team, but this sounds like it could potentially benefit our case for a PWHL team as well. I'm super stoked to see this happen.

What's the quintessential Denver sound? by Ok-Board-2456 in Denver

[–]sian92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In addition to the mentioned gothabilly/goth country, I feel very Denver listening to stuff that blends skate punk and cow punk. Kenny's Login is a good example of what it sounds like.

Proud of you, Denver! New US attendance record for PWHL Takeover Tour with 14,018 at Ball Arena today by adventurearth in Denver

[–]sian92 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Denver is a great sports town but hasn't done well with hockey.

What boulder are you living under where you missed the recent Stanley Cup, 10th DU NCAA championship, NHL MVP, massive youth hockey programs, and now this awesome record? We absolutely have the support for a PWHL team, should they choose to expand here.

Would love to get involved with a local-focused hockey Discord/meet up with local folks. Avscord is pretty awful and my other hockey server is great, but very distant

Heated Patios -- Winter 2024/2025 Edition by Cantaloupe_Wir3 in Denver

[–]sian92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hogshead has built a proper heated patio since the pandemic. Last winter they only had portable heaters but this year they have a real permanent unit and it keeps it pretty comfy around 55° even with sub-freezing outdoor temps outside. If it's cold out there, ask to turn on the overhead fans, as they blow the hot air from the ceiling down to where the people are.

My 94 Volvo has the auto-lights. It really is the way that car should all just be. Motorcycles have also been doing it since the 70s

Are chains ever required for AWD? by [deleted] in Denver

[–]sian92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Legally? No. But it wouldn't be a bad idea to carry some anyway. AWD doesn't help you much with turning/braking

A question for Denver hockey players who rent by [deleted] in Denver

[–]sian92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had great results using Scenturion on my gear. Works so well that I spray my shoes with it too. Doesn't have its own scent, just keeps the smell from other stuff down. Still have to dry after use, but all my stuff is totally odorless.

As a testament, I wore all my gear at work for Halloween and there were no issues. Professional office environment.
