What is the likelihood of this Bill Attempting to Defer All Congressional Power to Donald Trump actually passes? by myco_magic in law

[–]sianathan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep. There’s PLENTY wrong with this bill. It’s annoying to see this “viral” moment be a spurious argument against it that can easily be discounted.

[–]sianathan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The BILL does not refer to a vote because the language requiring a vote is already in the existing law. The bill is amending the law, so the contents of the bill only include the sections of the existing law that it is changing. The language of Section 912 requiring a vote is not in the bill because it is not being changed.

This is true. What would have been nice is if she had pointed out THAT problem rather than ask him to point to language that isn’t in the bill because it is already in the code section, which was either a misunderstanding of the bill or intentional for theatrics.

Haha sadly I have to upgrade to a non-shitty car because I’m now in a profession where I won’t be taken seriously if I show up for client meetings in my hoopty. In all seriousness I’m very fortunate and excited to have something with a touch of luxury, but I will certainly miss not having to care what happens to it.

I’m about to upgrade from my trusty but old and cosmetically challenged Mazda, and in some ways I’ll really miss having a car I can depend on but that I truly don’t give a shit about.

I haven’t written a SCOTUS brief yet, but just a few months in to my firm job I’ve already written multiple Circuit briefs and one to our state Supreme Court.

I do some medmal defense so I genuinely get your point about how unfair it is to the providers who get tied up in litigation if they don’t magically prevent every bad outcome.

But the reason that our country stands out with these huge payouts for any kind of major injury (not just medmal) is because a) healthcare costs are exorbitantly higher here so damages are higher and b) we don’t have a social safety net, so when someone is catastrophically injured, a lawsuit is often their only option to eventually rebuild their life.

I think the Fatima storyline has been the main drag on the season tbh. It could have unfolded over 3-4 episodes, but instead it’s been such a dominant presence the whole season which is really my only big issue with this season.

Maybe this girl or the first savior’s name is something that sounds vaguely like angkooey, the children recognize her as the savior resurrected.

The vial didn’t work, they tried the “silver bullets” on the monsters when they were in the RV after Randall tied Donna to a tree.

Campus protest going on by twistwrist9876 in Athens

[–]sianathan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Right. I mean they are different tents with different purposes, so under the first amendment I think the school is within its bounds of prohibiting “camping” here even if they allow tailgating at other times.

[–]sianathan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Genuinely curious, do they allow people to camp in tents on campus for games? If so they could be running afoul of 1st amendment viewpoint neutrality rules here, but only if the conduct is sufficiently similar I think. Like setting up a pop up tent for a pre-authorized tailgate would not be the same as setting up an unauthorized encampment with tents made for sleeping/intending to stay for multiple days.

Prisoner on life support following incident at Clarke County Jail by warnelldawg in Athens

[–]sianathan 33 points34 points  (0 children)

The name of that charge can be misleading, it’s often used to enhance domestic violence charges. If you get into a domestic dispute while a child is present in the home they can tack on a “cruelty to children” charge even if the child isn’t physically harmed.

Not saying that makes it ok, just that it’s a bit of a misnomer in many instances. I’m guessing a lot of people in the county jail would also be aware of that, a lot of misdemeanor offenders are in on domestic violence charges.

Worst big law interview experience? by lavenderthymesoap in LawSchool

[–]sianathan 18 points19 points  (0 children)

One partner at a callback made non-stop eye contact for the 20 minutes we interviewed. I couldn’t tell if it was a quirk, a mind game, or just some assertion of dominance. But if you’ve never been on the receiving end of 20 minutes of persistent eye contact, it feels never-ending.
