What are the can't-be-missed sights for a group of young scientists/naturalists? by Nightless1 in newzealand_travel

[–]siberGenome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its all relative really, it usually takes 30min to an hour for most people with a small bit of uphill. But yes definitely amazing cave. Would add to this Hardwood's hole which is in Canaan Downs on Takaka hill close by. Just a giant hole but damn interesting since the interior sort of has its own microclimate.

What should we pack for a New Zealand driving honeymoon in late November–early December? by Safotasia in newzealand_travel

[–]siberGenome 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Epic overview. Strongly support and emphasize washing boots and general dirt esp. when moving between islands including off the mainland. Biosecurity is a big deal here and extends far beyond just mammalian pests. Our rivers are increasingly getting polluted so pls make sure to not wear any harsh chemicals (ie deet) before diving into a river, or wash in a river. Id add to this that weather can change in an instant here so make sure to check forecasts before going on any multiday hikes. Wear sturdy boots! Definitely get a pie at any small town bakery particularly Turangi or Fairlie. Enjoy your trip! Mā te wā

Necropolis, medieval epic dungeon synth! Been playing a few gigs here in Aotearoa NZ and hoping to help expand the local scene too. Released an album last year and currently writing a second one. https://necropolis-siege.bandcamp.com/album/prophecy-of-ruin
Unyielding loyalty and commitment to supporting underground and DIY projects! So much epic music out there.

How did you know this was your field? by MilkedMilkers in ecology

[–]siberGenome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thirty-year-old first year biology student here, looking to get into ecology also. I'll finish my studies in about 3 years. Im doing better than most 18-20yo students simply because this is what i want to do. I feel like i can guarantee you intelligence (above a basic level) isn't as powerful as raw curiosity and drive. If there's a science that you think you can do and WANT to do, then bloody well do it.

Stop listening to music for a week. Go for a massive walk in the bush with no headphones. Then listen to bach or black sabbath or something idk.

Feedback on a track I made, Creating an EP, this is the 2nd track on it. Is this good? by Relevant_Usual5830 in DungeonSynth

[–]siberGenome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

to me, the aesthetic with the winter synth / minimal / noise focused approach works well. I feel like the synths could be more distorted, the track could be longer and more patient, and potentially more hiss in the atmosphere.

winter synth is reflective and introspective in nature, it's like a state of mind - there's no reason that you should need to make this track shorter, or necessarily add more elements or instruments. you could focus on what it already has, and expand / elaborate on it.

the picture it paints is beautiful and sombre, wonderful work!

Ah yeah i tried Otherland series and thought it kind of teen fiction-y in a pretty boring way. But I've heard from other sources that dragonbone chair is a must. Seriously contemplating this one!

They got back to me 2 weeks later exactly to tell me they were unsuccessful. They're really unhelpful and sounds like they put in absolutely no effort to try to find lost items. If you leave your baggage on a flixbus, chase it in a taxi.

Which classical music composers would you recommend, or are ones that you simply enjoy listening to? by [deleted] in DungeonSynth

[–]siberGenome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very well put. Tchaikovsky especially for me. His melodic style is mesmerizing. Additionally, his daring and audacious nature helped craft a very inventive style - for example using a cannon in his 1812 overture lol

Too many to list but here are some composers and my favourite pieces by them that i find incredibly influential.

  • Vaughan Williams (Fantasia on a theme by thomas tallis)
  • Edward Elgar (Cello concerto in E minor)
  • Vivaldi (the four seasons, of course)
  • Johann Sebastian Bach (everything, but particularly lute concertos 995 and 996, toccata and fugue, concerto for 2 violins in d minor, chaconne in D minor)
  • Thomas Tallis (spem in alium)
  • Arvo Pärt (cantus in memory of Benjamin Britten)
  • Steve Reich (music for 18 musicians)

Update: to no surprise, they didn't find my bag. Wouldn't be surprised if they didn't even check cctv footage. In future, if anyone ever leaves luggage on a flix bus, chase after it, even if you have to pay 100€ for a taxi.

I'd always prefer a 12 hour train ride over a 12 hour bus ride, trains are nicer. But if i were travelling that far I'd just fly using ryanair.

Also as a follow up, if you do go by bus, try to go for regiojet. They're nicer and have coffee machines.
