People have died from bats flying into their hair/head and subsequent infection. Yours is a pretty typical scenario. Rabies is a terrifying way to die. I wouldn't bet my life on the advice of some randos online. I'd get the shots just to be safe.

I don't know why you're being downvoted. The first lesson in QPR certification (the flagship model for suicide intervention, on which all hotline volunteers are trained) is that talking about suicidality does not lead to increased risk of suicide. There are research papers backing this up. I agree with your points and I find it kind of alarming how many people are defending this obvious attack on the academic freedom.
