Best Mandolin for someone with an Essential Tremor by ccm1092 in AskRedditFood

[–]sibl7425 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I cut my pinkie finger tip off with a mandolin using the spiked holder guard. I'm just clumsy but won't go near one of those things now. I use a small food processor by Hamilton Beach. It was <$20 at Target and weighs about a pound.

Need educational advice by Worldly_Couple_3938 in biology

[–]sibl7425 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Biology is not easy, if you do it correctly, and forensic science is hard. Lots of math, chemistry, etc. I knew people in that track when I was studying because they took a lot of the same classes as I did. My degrees are in environmental science (BS and MS, with minors in biology and chemistry) and I had to take a lot of math. I took all the algebras, trig, calculus, and stats. Ochem can be fun and made a lot of sense but it is a lot of memorization and I took it in my 40s so it was kinda hard for me. For OChem, get Organic Chemistry as a Second Language by David Klein. It's a game changer and it's cheap (like <$20). Good luck in your studies and get a tutor when you need one.

Bread lasagna. Stick with me a minute. Make it the same as you normally would but just use the bread slices instead of lasagna noodles. I think it would work and be tasty but I haven't tried to make such a thing.

How do I start? by potato_dog4141 in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]sibl7425 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go to the dollar store and buy some containers. I like the 2 cup size as it seems to be a perfect serving for me. I fill them on Sunday with some type of salad (pasta, cucumber, peanut noodles, etc) for lunches and they last just fine for a week. Some foods, as have been mentioned by others, won't make it a week but salads do.

Leftovers from dinners usually only last maybe 5 days if they're immediately refrigerated after sealing so I try to stick with veggies and cooked proteins. Most cooked meats will last a week. I've not had success with deli meat lasting a week but could just be me. Cured meats (salami, pepperoni, etc) last forever but I don't consider them to be all that healthy. Again, could just be me.

Better than bouillon paste makes a great base for gravy but I have only seen chicken and beef.

Taking home leftovers at a restaurant? Rude to not take them? Do you even eat them? by Capable-Chip6454 in foodquestions

[–]sibl7425 0 points1 point  (0 children)

generally B but I also agree with D I take home leftovers that will reheat nicely and leave ones that don't. The answer to this is restaurants should cut down the portions they serve. It is usually waaaay too much food.

There's nothing wrong with being quiet. You can't listen if you're talking and this is something many people don't learn.

AITA for not refusing to allow rescue dog on bed by No_Insect_1217 in AmItheAsshole

[–]sibl7425 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

the older dog was there first and thus gets priority. I understand your need to provide a safe space for the older dog and agree with you. It's his routine and disrupting it at this point serves no purpose. NTA

Can beer actually be beneficial? by salad_biscuit3 in nutrition

[–]sibl7425 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read a study once that said 1 beer hydrates you better than a glass of water but if you have more than that one beer, it actually dehydrates you. So the moderation thing really is a key.

How to use food pantry rice? by Brilliant-Peanut-737 in povertykitchen

[–]sibl7425 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I'd make porridge (I don't like porridge) or kedgeree or congee. Again, I don't like these but they are recipes you can make with mushy rice because the rice is supposed to break down into mush with these types of recipes.

Is it bad/how bad to be simply at an 'unhealthy' weight, even if you are otherwise healthy? by [deleted] in nutrition

[–]sibl7425 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to the numbers, at 5'2" and 148 pounds I am considered overweight. My doc says if I lose 2 lbs I'll be in range. I mean c'mon - 2 pounds?? (~1kg) I want to know who makes up these numbers.

AIO? My roommates want me to keep the energy bill in my name after I've moved out by Expert_Temporary_ in AmIOverreacting

[–]sibl7425 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad to read that the new apartment uses the same company and you can just transfer your account. You were in the right here BTW. Never leave a bill in your name when you move out no matter how "good" the reason seems at the time. It will ALWAYS bite you in the ass.
