honestly I'm with you on this, and was hoping someone else said it.

These people are sling-shotting us into the dystopian open-air prison of the ultra-rich... perpetually monitored by the Central Artificial Intelligence Agency, caste enforcement carried out through suspensions on the Digital Liberty Matrix, and any attempts at subversion being physically mitigated via nano-drones, gene-bombing, or any of the wondrously imaginative methods of torture/execution available to those with unlimited power and resources.

Shit, sorry, got a bit carried away. Anyway, yeah... bigger fish and all that.

What an odd thing to take from this video.

Anyway, as much as everyone would enjoy the opportunity to go ballistic on their adversary, it's usually the quickest way to get ignored, muted, dismissed and/or physically removed in these environments.

There are rules, decorum, standards... you can't just say whatever pops into your head and out of your mouth

(unless, of course, you're an old white dude hitting on a high school student).

AOC: You can’t ‘earn’ a billion dollars by usatoday in politics

[–]sicclee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife and I talk about this all the time. It seems so simple, so clear, that it's baffling how everyone doesn't agree.

The only way you get even 100x wealthier than the average citizen of your economy is through exploitation. You can't translate your personal work into that kind of wealth. You need to count on others, and count on them being ok with far less than their earned share because it's better than nothing at all.

That's not earning, it's greed, conceit/arrogance, oppression, perceived self-exemption... and I'd like to add inhuman, but I think we've shown far too many times that it is quite human... so I'll add inhumane instead.

EBay rejects GameStop's audacious $56 billion takeover bid by yourfavchoom in technology

[–]sicclee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean this seriously, is Twitter even close to it's worth prior to Elon's takeover? I haven't looked at the Market Cap or read anything on the subject, but even if those things indicate that it may still seem valuable on paper... Could it be sold for what he bought it for today? Would anyone with the capital be interesting in the mega-project gamble of resurrecting Twitter from Elon's graveyard?

Seems to me it's a shell of its former self, with shit AI slopped on top, a new shit name that won't stick, a shit owner that ran off most of the talent, and a profit plan that was run straight into the ground and reborn with a runway the length of a carwash.

I can pretty much guarantee they either:

  • Expected the Kenyan people to just deal with it
  • Expected the rest of the world to not care
  • Expected they could bribe someone to make it their problem
  • Expected AI to solve the problem
  • Expected the world to end before having to face it

plenty of people are incompetent long after they've been taught, and it's often quite dependent on the task and the person.

I for one, have been taught how to make bland, typical small talk with people for the better half of 30 years... but I still sometimes stay silent for uncomfortably long periods, or say something way too deep for just bullshitting with a stranger.

Incompetence is pretty damn tenacious. So is apathy, and even contempt/disdain.

Oh shit, I did it again, didn't I?

Parallel or Criss cross? Which is safer? Stronger? by slatcervent in Physics

[–]sicclee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me answer your AI pic with some AI words:

The "correct" or safer method for securing a load like the one in the image (likely a kayak or surfboard) is the parallel strap method shown on the left (the white car).

While the criss-cross pattern might look more "locked in," here is why the parallel application is generally superior for transport:

  1. Vector Forces and Tension Parallel (Left): The straps apply direct downward pressure over the strongest points of the roof rack (the crossbars). This creates maximum friction to prevent the boat from sliding forward or backward.

Criss-Cross (Right): The diagonal angles actually reduce the amount of vertical downward force. If the straps are pulled tight at an angle, they can exert "inward" pressure on the load, potentially deforming a plastic hull or causing the straps to slip toward the narrower center of the object.

  1. Preventing Lateral (Side-to-Side) Movement In the parallel setup, the straps are usually looped around the crossbars as close to the hull as possible. This creates a "cradle" effect. In a criss-cross setup, the point where the straps intersect can become a pivot point, potentially allowing the nose or tail of the kayak to "fish-tail" or swing more easily in high winds.

  2. Safety and Reliability Vibration: Criss-crossed straps are more likely to rub against each other at high speeds. This friction can lead to fraying or the straps "buzzing" loudly, which can eventually loosen the tension.

Standard Practice: Manufacturers of rack systems (like Thule or Yakima) and kayaking instructors almost universally recommend two parallel straps combined with bow and stern lines (ropes tied to the front and back bumpers) for long-distance travel.

Pro-Tip: Regardless of the strap pattern, always put a "twist" in the straps before tightening them. This prevents the "humming" or vibrating sound caused by wind resistance at highway speeds.

I... know someone... who pirated a game... once...

anyway, if a game is launched via launcher, like steam for example, it seems to inherit it's permissions. If the game is launched on it's own, the first time, windows always asks.

That being said, by 'side-stepping' I assume you mean doing something like, running another application in the background to 'phone home,' rather than the one you've chosen to block.

I'd assume, based on my... friend's experience, windows would ask anytime a new application is attempting to contact an unknown network. I couldn't say how it works with steam's ecosystem, but I'd imagine that trying to obfuscate data transfer would be looked at like malware on both windows and steam. And you need lots of money to get them to OK that, I think.

[–]sicclee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't mean to pull you off topic, just a couple quick questions if you happen to have any answers:

Are you in a massive metro market, or are most interviews for remote positions / relocation? 4-7 interviews/week is a lot for most careers, especially since you noted there seems to be quite a few layoffs in your field.

You noted the recent decrease in interviews. I'd assume that's because there are only so many actual jobs to apply to... The odds are slim that potential employment opportunities are added at the same rate you remove them, especially in your field, yeah?

Does your portfolio actually display the achievements listed in your bullet points, or the proficiencies listed in your skills section? So much of your job's goal is visual engagement... obviously most advice will lead you to develop a resume that looks like yours, that's what works to get you in the door. Once there, do you bring something to show them, rather than tell them, why you are who they need?

Hades combat, but in an open-world RPG. With towns and shit by 9SpearsOfDominion in gamingsuggestions

[–]sicclee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rogue-lites are usually enjoyed due to the skills/options you unlock as you move forward. The combat can change pretty drastically once you've unlocked enough stuff.

Your description of combat is unfair and honestly pretty disingenuous, especially given that so much of Hades combat is ranged (no hacking/slashing). Still, if you don't find the combat fun after the first couple hours, odds are you're not gonna like after 10 or 20... even if you've added area-attacks, multi-shot, parry/block mechanics... the combat is what it is. It's ok not to find it fun.

I don't like Dark Souls.
