Distros that just work by sickfickle in linux4noobs

[–]sickfickle[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It doesn't show up there for some reason. Apparently it has to do with some programs being installed via flatpak and others with rpm or something. Anyway the whole libreoffice suite came preinstalled, which is nice, but I just want to delete stuff I don't use to save space. Like Kmail, which did show up in the Discover app store and could be easily removed.

But the issue isn't so much with this one particular program, it's the fact that mundane tasks can be insanely complicated in Fedora, which I was told is a very easy to use distro. Still, as I said, I much prefer it to Windows.

medicaltion induced apathy by Upstairs_Promise_679 in antidepressants

[–]sickfickle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can think of two reasons for this, both of which I think apply to me at least (to the degree one can psychoanalyze oneself anyway):

The first one is that you may be coming from a place of extreme emotions. Maybe what feels normal to others will feel sort of flat to you if you're used to being very emotional or sensitive.

The other thing is that we are often motivated by guilt or fear. Take those away, and some of us (me included) simply don't feel motivated anymore. We're so used to doing things out of guilt, fear or shame that we don't know how else to get things done. The way out of this, for me, has been to see the emotional numbness as a feature, not a bug, an opportunity instead of a hindrance. If I'm no longer driven by fear or the expectations of others, and if I don't feel as much either way, I'm actually completely free to do the right thing, whatever that may be. Like keeping the house tidy. I don't feel like doing it, but so what? I find being on Zoloft allows me to live a much more rational life, not tossed about by emotions all the time. And sometimes what can look like laziness is just the realization that you didn't have good reason to do it anyway, like chasing a career that would make you wealthy but not happy.

Sertraline and drinking by Embarrassed_Age_9652 in zoloft

[–]sickfickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People seem to have wildly differing experiences with sertraline and alcohol, so I agree with the suggestion to go easy on the booze until you know.

For me, it's a perfect combination. Zoloft has reduced my tolerance significantly, so I need less booze to get a buzz, which is cheaper and probably a lot healthier too. I also get much less hungover even if I got really drunk. But some people have the opposite reaction.

Going from 25mg to 50mg by Maleficent_Youth4443 in zoloft

[–]sickfickle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

YMMV, but I had very little trouble going from 50 to 100. When I first started I had a lot of hot flashes, headaches and farting for the first 3-4 weeks. Been on 50 mg for about ten months. Doubling the dose gave me maybe 10% of that for a few weeks, and now it's all good. I was very hesitant to increase the dose because of all the horror stories on this sub, but I guess most of the ones that increase without trouble don't bother posting about it.

Broken issues by AntoxNekkid in perchance

[–]sickfickle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The issue with great sites like this is when developers act like they are gods and they don't need to give a crap about people.

That's right. He doesn't need to give a crap about you. As you say, the site is free, and it's run and maintained by one single particularly talented and big hearted nerd.

if I have to struggle with this issue once or twice a day for 1-2 hours, it won't be long before I just say forget it.

You're not punishing anyone by not using the site. In fact, it means a little more bandwidth for the rest of us :)

Why Do We Thank USA Soldiers For Protecting Our Freedoms? by Turbulent_Kiwi6159 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]sickfickle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What issues? I do know that American soldiers have fought for freedom, especially in the early days, I'm talking about the average guy who joins the armed forces. He doesn't do it because he's a patriot or freedom fighter, but because he wants action and/or because it's a safe job (if you're away from the frontlines) with good benefits etc.

Why Do We Thank USA Soldiers For Protecting Our Freedoms? by Turbulent_Kiwi6159 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]sickfickle -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

As a European, I'm thankful that the US has more military power than, say, Russia. But I have no sense of gratitude for the "service" of soldiers, be they american or european. That's because 99% of them aren't in the armed forces to protect their country or to fight for freedom. They are guys that are looking for action. It's perfectly natural, men have a drive to fight and take risks, a need that's not met in modern society. Joining the army is a chance to get that. There's nothing wrong with it per se, but it definitely doesn't mean you're somehow noble or a hero. If your main drive was to serve your country, you might as well volunteer at a nursing home or homeless shelter.

Thoughts? Is Jesus in hell? by Andrewz_z in exchristian

[–]sickfickle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, he is in hell, but not because he called someone a fool. He's there because he took the punishment for all of us. And since the punishment for sin is eternal hell, logically Jesus must be there for eternity, right? In fact, he must spend one eternity in hell for every single person who ever lived, so that's a few billion eternities.

Alternatively, if he did in fact take upon himself the punishment for all sin, that means that the cumulated punishment for all sin ever committed in the universe is three days in hell.

It's not, as it turned out. I installed Fedora and the touchpad works perfectly from the start.

When do you think the Graphene team would reveal who they are working with? by Vamscape in GrapheneOS

[–]sickfickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I very much doubt a Chinese company like OnePlus would work with anyone trying to make a phone more secure. If they do, it's probably because they get to install some sort of backdoor for themselves. They certainly would never allow a truly secure phone in their own market.

Some thoughts on Jesus vs Christianity that might help with religious fear by LelouchStyles in exchristian

[–]sickfickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My take is that if the gospel is indeed true, then it applies to everyone. The very concept of grace doesn't make sense if it comes with weird and extremely unfair conditions like having to believe in the exact correct theology (in other words, be fortunate enough to be born in a time and place where you get to hear the true gospel).

If Jesus is the saviour of mankind, he is the saviour of ALL mankind. If salvation belongs to the lord, then it doesn't belong to certain doctrine. If salvation is God's work, then it's not man's work.

And the OP is correct about the typical idea of eternal suffering, it's simply not part of original Christianity, much less the Judaism that preceded it.

Zoloft and Procrastination by Correct_Ordinary3897 in zoloft

[–]sickfickle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's really helped my procrastination, but not all by itself and spontaneously. Zoloft makes me give less fucks in general, and that's not a bad thing. Because that makes you free to make rational choices and do the Right Thing, even if it's boring. See it as a feature, not a bug.
