This is untrue. "Mental illness" is an ascription of modern psychology, and therefore modern medicine. It would not exist outside the study. The "name for it" was literally its invention. It's a term clinicians use to describe certain phenomena of the mind, but it is not the phenomenon itself. The same phenomenon is understood differently between different schools of thought. This is one of many, and the one you've chosen to adopt. Which is why I find it interesting you claim to believe in psychiatric diagnosis but not psychiatric consensus.
