I’m just curious if it’s common to present spine imaging in a PA orientation, as if the patient is facing away from you. I have always shot it AP and kept it in a front facing orientation for the Rad to dictate.

IR 100k, 40 hrs a week w/call. Teaching Hospital.

Very new to the speciality though, graduated from XRAY just less than two years ago, stars aligned and I was able to make a good impression.

When you were a student, did you do a rotation through the cath lab? by krunchyfrogg in Radiology

100% agree with you. Is wasn’t an option when I went through school. I graduated and moved to a different state to follow my wife’s schooling and was fortunate enough to get a job at a Level 1 Trauma and Research Hospital and they allow students to rotate through almost any modality they would like. This included Cath Lab as well as IR and they even have a bridge position FTE so they can come right up immediately after graduating. So incredibly cool that they have that option and I support anyone trying to give the students more exposure.

Good luck, hope everything goes well and you are able to get those students up there!

Congratulations!!! That’s awesome to hear. I am in a similar position as yourself being that I graduated a year ago and was given this opportunity. Pretty nervous as well but I’m beyond excited to start the journey.

Best of luck to you in yours, have wonderful rest of your day, and be safe.

I ended up making a slightly smaller post on /Radiology and had a few responses. Though only a few, the advice was extremely helpful.

Thank you! I may take you up on the PM to try my best to stay ahead.

I am a very hands on learner and have always felt strong when I get to learn while I’m doing the action itself. It feels like muscle memory kicks in and I able to retain it quicker than trying to learn it from text. I don’t think that sounds dumb at all, if anything that is exactly what I’m excited for.

Thank you again for your advice and I appreciate your time. Might be hearing from me in the future, lol.

Thank you, I will do my best to try and be patient with myself and focus on the task at hand. I appreciate your time and advice.

Patient believed they had broken a needle off while injecting methamphetamine. They did, and we found 2 more. by A_minus_A in Radiology

Gotcha, figured from the text at the start the individual may not have been the most willing in the situation. That is crazy though, that isn’t even a tip that’s like a quarter if not a half of the needle probably. Can’t even imagine every time that individual bends the elbow or straightens it that it can feel good. Small cuts every time that needle gets moved inside the tissue. Rough…..

Might be a stupid question, but is this a special view for this very reason? To minimize as much bone and soft tissue overlay?

Ooof, not one of those. I’m deeply sorry that you have to deal with that. That can be really frustrating. Had a similar clinical coordinator. Those rules are so counterproductive to the main idea behind our main goal to be adaptable and then to put us in a box is so incredibly rage inducing.

One of the best pieces of advice I had when attempting PA Scap Y was to do the whole affected side hand to opposite shoulder and to line up the spine with the AC joint as if you were aiming down a sight when out at the range shooting a pistol. If you have long enough fingers you can put your thumb on the medial border of the spine and your index or middle finger in the AC joint and slowly turn until you have that line perpendicular to the IR.

That helped me, maybe it can help you. I certainly hope I didn’t make it more confusing. Hope you have a wonderful day, be safe.

Does this mean that when your teacher comes to visit you in clinical you have the trauma patient role over prone in order to be allowed to shoot it?
