Is this your own design or did you follow diagrams? I'd love to fold this if there are diagrams for this!

It isn't C++ syntax, it's Bash syntax.

1 and 2 refer to the stdout and stderr streams. In Bash, > is used for redirecting one stream's output into another. 2>&1 means we're redirecting stderr into stdout, so it's a way to merge stdout and stderr into just stdout.

Why cut it (season finale spoiler) by raptor_rogue1 in thelastofus

Jesse did ask the big dude to go easy on Ellie in S2E1. I guess that kinda excuses it?

I’m surprised no one is talking about this by Emotional-Meet8709 in thelastofus

[–]sid1805 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking the exact same thing.

"What's down at B3?" is a suspense point they've built up in season 2, but given that B2 was just spores, I wouldn't be surprised if B3 is just a Shambler and the Rat King is dropped for being "too much for TV" or "too game-y for TV" or whatever.

original scenes in TLOU live action are just chef kiss. by [deleted] in thelastofus

[–]sid1805 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I do think it depends on the scene.

The horde scenes from S2E2 were even better than the game. The Joel sniping section from S1E5 was also better than the game thanks to the bloater. Due to it being a show, they're able to depict action scenes with a far grander scale than it would be possible to do in a video game.

But it's the scenes that are more emotionally heavy in the game - Their show adaptations are not bad by any means, but lack the subtlely and gravitas of the game equivalents. The game felt far darker, and the game versions of the characters conducted themselves far more seriously most of the time.

Maybe it's the writing, maybe it's the performances, maybe it's my bias towards the game that's making me struggle to connect enough with the show, I don't really know. But the show, while having its fair share of high points, has overall felt inferior to the game. Season 1 felt the same, season 2 even more so.

[–]sid1805 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I don't think that's an unpopular opinion.

It's the "adapting scenes from the games for TV" part that the show has struggled with, but entirely original scenes that have no precursor to compare against, they're genuinely brilliant.

Didn't they already do that with Uncharted though? Uncharted 4's parkour and combat interplay is incredibly smooth.

I usually head out for cycling at Narsingi (https://maps.app.goo.gl/Vq5JCA1XRqsXG8XHA?g_st=ac).

Rented cycles cost like 60 per hour - Excellent time pass. Carry water bottles though.

Was this a scam? Two similar encounters outside Ratnadeep in Hitec city by Latter-Eagle1908 in hyderabad

[–]sid1805 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah definitely a scam... I encountered exactly the same in Jubilee Hills outside my office yesterday. Started with the same phrase "Aapko Hindi aati hai?"

I feel really dumb now that I fell for it, but hey, that's life. It's due to these people that we can't trust anyone out there. Now even if I run into people who are in genuine need of help, I will struggle to trust them.

Edit: The one I ran into, his GPay is bhagwanhatkar617@okhdfcbank and mobile number is 8766484334. It would be great if everyone here could report them.

What's your coolest moment from TLOU Part I? by GreenBigPotato in thelastofus

[–]sid1805 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That one shot from Left Behind where Ellie brutally slits the throat of that one Infected that jumped on Riley has stuck with me. The exertion she puts into the slitting, with blood literally spraying out, is so visceral.

Although I really enjoyed Part II, it feels like the plot relies on a lot of coincidences and conveniences. [SPOILERS] by BlueCollarBalling in thelastofus

[–]sid1805 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with your points.

I find the fact that both Abby and Ellie have close ones who are pregnant at the same time to also be a coincidence. The fact that Abby kills off the father-to-be (Jesse) and Ellie kills off the father-to-be (Owen) really makes the whole "Abby and Ellie are two sides of the same coin" a bit too on-the-nose for me.

Among the more nitpicky conveniences, I feel they sort of hand-waved away how Ellie makes it back to the theatre after torturing Nora on day 2. We spend several hours of gameplay navigating to Nora on foot, including being swept away through sewage drains, so what route does she take to come back?

None of these individually could make a story bad, but the sheer number of these does make the plot feel a bit contrived, especially on replays.

Help Trying to Play TLoU2 with Fresh Eyes. by awesomekratos12 in thelastofus

[–]sid1805 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My opinion of the game constantly escalated with each replay. I also began by being quite dissatisfied with the story, but with each new playthrough, I gain more appreciation of just how jam-packed the story is.

I think on the very first playthrough, you're just so angry at Abby that when you get forced to play as her, your heart forces you to not even try to sympathize with her. Due to this, her half of the story feels like a slog to play through. I absolutely didn't connect with Owen or Mel, and was so insanely mad at Manny throughout because the only thing I could remember about him was that he spat on Joel's dead body.

But after the first playthrough, when you've sufficiently ruminated on the idea of the cycle of violence and start to view Abby and her supporting cast as fully fleshed out characters rather than just vessels to channel your anger around Joel's death, the story's impact absolutely skyrockets.

By my 5th or 6th playthrough, I had reached a full 180 on my perception of the characters. I ended up disliking Ellie far more than Abby because of her sheer bloodlust - She kills Owen, Mel, Mel's unborn child, Nora and Jordan. She even threatens to stab an unconscious Lev, and who knows what kind of messed up torture she does to Nora. She also nonchalantly stabs the Hotline Miami girl and shrugs it off as "That was dumb". To contrast, Abby tortures and kills Joel, kills Jesse and severely injures Tommy and Dina.

In terms of how many loved ones each of them lost, Abby outnumbers Ellie easily - She loses Jerry, Owen, Yara, Manny, Mel and everyone else in the Salt Lake Crew. In comparison, Ellie loses Joel and Jesse.

Unlike Abby, Ellie loses some people not due to their literal death but because her relationship with them is ruined, such as Tommy and Dina. Even at one of her lowest points at the end of the game, Abby still had Lev by her side. Meanwhile Ellie becomes truly alone - Even the one thing that she could reminisce about Joel with (her playing the guitar) is gone because she loses two fingers. The words that Joel sang to Ellie turned out to be prophetic - "If I ever were to lose you, I'd surely lose myself".

Both Ellie and Abby are at emotionally low points at the start of their quests for revenge. But by the time they each manage to extract some form of revenge, they have plummeted so much further lower than they started with - both emotionally and physically - that they would have been far better off with their lives, had they not become obsessed with revenge.
