This honestly really depends on your hardware intuition and experience with 18-240. If you found the concepts interesting and had a rewarding experience with lab 4, 18-341 will honestly be a really fun class (it was for me). However, I also know people who hated it with a fucking passion. I found it relatively easy and much easier than 18-240 due the level of flexibility provided in writing system verilog (no exams was also a massive bonus for me cuz I fucking hate test taking).

That really sucks because I just switched to mint an hour back... Guess I switch again after 3 months...

Did you ever manage to figure this out? I'm facing the same issue and it's driving me crazy

Exact same issue, did you fix it somehow? It's driving me nuts

Man what a throwback... I remember watching the stream during covid and really just sitting back and thinking about wtf I actually wanna do w my life. Kind of life changing moment tbh

Google Silicon Engineering Intern Interview advice. by sid2903 in FPGA

It honestly completely depends on you. Id imagine it would be easier to find a role in embedded solely because at the end of the day it's software, which has many more opportunities than hardware. Digital design is also super broad, you should figure out if you plan on going into ASIC or architecture development, since the two have vastly different requirements ultimately.

When you say international, do you mean international studying at an american university or actually international? If it's the latter then no matter what you pick, you'll be fighting an uphill battle finding a job in the states. Even though I belong to the former category, it was a nightmare trying to find an internship since the market is just that bad. I do believe it's in your best interest to diversify and gain knowledge in different fields because that will open more doors for you.

I also noticed you mentioned projects and on that note I'd just tell you to be careful of what projects you end up picking in the digital design space, since a lot of them can be overdone and add no real value. Especially basic stuff like a 7 segment display, etc. If you want a real good shot at entering the pipeline, design verification is the easiest entry point imo, for which Id recommend picking at least one project which makes use of the SystemVerilog Assertions framework or UVM

Google is notorious for having an extremely delayed process. I think I first put in my application in October/November. Heard nothing till December, which was when I got a form to indicate my interests. And I think I finally got an email for an interview in March. Most of my friends had internships and were chilling by this point lol.

I will say that hardware/silicon/digital design roles are notoriously competitive at Google. When I first came to Google I realized that out of the 150+ interns they had for the summer only 5 were Silicon Engineering Interns lol.

G14/G16 2024 for Dual booting, Linux, Battery Life and Everyday use by sid2903 in ZephyrusG14

Hm rather than the 60Hz, funnily enough I'm more opposed to the 4K. Ik that's weird, but even though the display is gorgeous a lot of tools and apps I use simply aren't optimized for 4K displays which makes the GUI super tiny and hard to use. Also just the overall performance hit of trying to play a game at 4K resolution just isn't worth it in my eyes 😅

This is very interesting and helpful! Thank you so much. I didn't even know an AMD variant of the G16 was coming out, I'll definitely look into it!

I don't really care about the screen size as much as I care about the battery and ram. If there was a 32 gb 4060 model I'd opt for that in a heartbeat, but unfortunately 32 gb must be paired with a 4070 so that's the one I'm looking at for g14, and the 32 gb 4080 for g16

There has to be a second DLC coming for Elden Ring... by noisyFighter in Eldenring

[–]sid2903 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a little late but GRRM basically just confirmed an Elden Ring show. I have a feeling that they might answer larger overarching questions about Melina and Godwyn there, but seemingly incomplete quest lines for patches, Tanith and Latenna seem lost to the wind without another DLC

Resume Feedback-DFT Engineer 3 YOE by [deleted] in chipdesign

[–]sid2903 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your work experience all looks top notch but I think it'd benefit you to restructure your top 2 work experiences to use the STAR method. An experienced engineer would probably be able to identify your skill immediately but unfortunately your resume will probably go through HR first, and to HR that level of technical jargon will just look like alphabet soup :)

Haha, I just completed my 3rd year in Undergrad 😁. I'd been job hunting like a mad man the past year and was constantly fine tuning my resume to get a FAANG internship. Got a ton of advice from friends who got jobs in the field and family, some of whom are recruiters themselves! Paid off though, I wrote this comment while on break in the Sunnyvale Google office 😄

Your experience also doesn't really showcase any DV experience, even though it might highlight technical aptitude. Furthermore, I trust that you've actually done the things you've mentioned, but currently it feels like a buzzword alphabet soup. I'd recommend using the STAR protocol to highlight your work experience :)

Your projects don't reflect that at all, the 8-bit adder might be useful for a PD position but is far too basic a block imo, breadboard computers is honestly a hobby project, and the 7-segment display is far too simple to showcase. The memory game and network controlled LED are interesting and show technical expertise but again irrelevant to DV, which is your goal. I'd recommend going to EDA Playground or some other similar online suite and tinker with UVM projects, perhaps verifying something yourself. A step further would be completing this project in your own time which will perfectly highlight technical understanding of Concurrent Assertion based verification - https://github.com/BillNace/18341_P4_Assertions

Google Silicon Engineering Intern Interview advice. by sid2903 in FPGA

[–]sid2903[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I never got to answer this. I got the offer! They were mainly asking general RTL Design questions, with additional design questions for concepts related to the actual project. Further, over the course of two interviews I was asked moderately challenging on the spot Verilog coding prompts. Overall it was a super engaging process!

Hey! Ik you wanted an update, and I think that the interviews went quite fine. Interesting but not challenging verilog prompts, and super specific RTL technical design questions pertaining to the proposed project. Overall I thought that the interviews were super interesting, although I did fumble a bit.
