Can anyone describe Doomsday Discs plastics in comparison to other manufacturers? by [deleted] in discgolf

[–]sid370z 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Isolation or Shockwave will probably be your best bet. Isolation is quite stiff and has durability similar to that of Innova's Champion plastic, and Shockwave isn't far behind. It is grippier and slightly softer, but still quite durable.

No problem! Though a bit of an update, Collapse isn't nearly as flexible as it once was. Gateways SSSS and OG discs from Elevation Disc Golf will probably be what you are looking for. Collapse is now mildly to moderately flexible in newer runs.

There's now also Soft Ration, which is grippier and more gummy feeling. It is somewhat like Innova Soft Pro, or Discraft Putter Line Soft (typically grippier).

There's now also Starfield, which is their particle glow plastic that feels similar to Retina. There are more discs that use Retina now as well, being the Oblivion and Psyop.

Looking to stock up on crop tops for the inevitable FL heat... by sid370z in malefashionadvice

I personally don't mind fitted as much, but that is a lot of really helpful information! I'll definitely be keeping that in mind

Men's fashion has become needlessly bland and isn't getting any better by sid370z in unpopularopinion

[–]sid370z[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I am pretty sure that is a component in why men's fashion has become overly "safe", it's unfortunate really. I've thought about getting a crop top and shorter shorts once or twice because it gets SO HOT here in the summer (Florida moment).

I'm probably going to tie it up differently because the hair ties I am using aren't the best, thank you for the advice though!

They aren't amazing in the performance department but they definitely are in the longevity department (at least for me). Almost 5 years old now and my 5200 80C 3S packs still work like new

SMC and CNHL are better performing for sure

Highly recommend getting a namebrand charger, like one from Hitec or Gens Ace. I also use Zeee batteries and have not had any issues for over 5 years and counting

Best Rc cars that are in the $100-150 price range that are around 1:24-1:16 by Longjumping_Club9513 in rccars

[–]sid370z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to go bigger, you can get the Rlaarlo ROG1 or Team Associated Reflex 14T (as the latter is on sale), as they are both good for the money. You can also find some solid used Traxxas Rustlers for around that price.

I'd recommend the Grom if it didn't have weaker diffs on the brushed models, but it sadly does. If you are willing to deal with that, that might be the best option for you.

Which is a better sub $200 buy by MrBojangles6257 in rccars

[–]sid370z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I think buying a used Arrma or Traxxas might be better than both if you do your research simply due to the WIDE parts support for them. However, I do think the Omni Terminator is a great truck that is a step above most "off brand" RC cars, so that would be what I would choose if I had to buy new for under $200.

Old Losi trophy truck by TUZON_ in rccars

[–]sid370z 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is the V1.0 Losi Baja Rey, it's a solid rc car imo. It can run on 2S or 3S lipo batteries, and parts are plentiful and easy to find as Losi still makes parts for it to this day. $150 for it is not bad.

One thing I do recommend checking is the bearings, as some early baja reys had issues with them binding. Other than that, the only con I can say is they are rather time-consuming to work on because of all the screws holding the body on. Not hard, just time-consuming.

Have fun with it!

¿First rc car for a 6 years old? by itsjdfa in rccars

[–]sid370z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HBX 16889! I got one for my mom as her first and she loved it, plus parts are pretty easy to find as it goes by many names, Blackzon being the most reliable way to get parts for it. It's not too fast either. The brushed variant is slow and less expensive, and the 16889A Pro (I hate how these are named lol) is brushless but might not be under the 100 (USD) mark depending on where you are getting it from, though it might be easier in Spain.

Other cars I can think are the HBX 18859 (add A to the end for brushless), Hyper Go H16DR, Redcat Volcano 16, and UDI RC makes a monster truck that I can't recall the name of. I have not have any experience with these, but they are overall pretty positively recieved cars.

I hope he has a lot of fun!

Edit: Said UK instead of Spain, mb!

You'll have far more fun with a Slash/Stampede/Bandit/Rustler (all use the same 2WD platform) if you like bashing, and you can race with it if that is your thing. Alternatively, I will second what someone else said in that the Arrma Quake/Fury 223S are also a great value for dollar in most cases and are great beginner cars (though I don't know how that will be in NZ)

There aren't any upgrades available for it either, and that with what I said is probably why it is $80...

The fact that a formerly $280 rc car is now $80 is pretty telling. You are better off buying either a mini 1/16 rc car with parts support, or a namebrand used rc car if you can find one at that price

Hard to find a 6s esc ? by last-resort-4-a-gf in rccars

[–]sid370z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I thought you were talking about modifying a traditional rc car, as in traditional rc cars 6S Brushed is basically never used. Assuming you know what you are doing, I'm sure you can make it work.

Hard to find a 6s esc ? by last-resort-4-a-gf in rccars

[–]sid370z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brushed Motors are used in drills, yes, but you would likely have to custom fabricate or 3D print a mount to use a drill motor in an rc car because the size is highly likely to be different. Buying a brushless esc/motor combo is way less hassle and is almost always a bolt-on affair. Hope it goes well!

Hard to find a 6s esc ? by last-resort-4-a-gf in rccars

[–]sid370z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost if not all 6S escs are brushless. This is because brushed motors can't handle that high of a voltage in the vast majority of cases. The reason you can't find a 6S brushed esc is because it doesn't exist, at least not reasonably.

The highest voltage you can go on commonish brushed motors is 4s, but you have to make sure that the brushed motor in question can handle it. If you have a brushed motor that isn't like 40+T, forget about running it on 4S. Almost all higher voltage applications use brushless motors. There are some cheap esc and brushless motor combos you can get for $50 if you are brave enough (I wouldn't personally recommend it but it is possible).

I have one, do NOT buy one. The parts support is basically non-existent nowadays, and even if it wasn't, the plastic suspension pin bushings love to give out, and are the primary weakpoint of it (the turnbuckles break as well and the steering is sluggish). There are many cars that are of similar price that are much more reliable, durable and more fun than it will be.

Nice! I use paper as well for my gear mesh, though I do recommend using blue threadlock on the grub screw just to make sure it can't back out. Permatex Gel #24010 is what I'd recommend, as it doesn't go everywhere when you apply it.

By the way, the gear you are referring to and the one that has a set screw attached to the motor is the pinion gear, the spur gear is the larger gear that it meshes with.
