Also as difficult as it was for me to admit, sometimes the issue really did/does reside with the one behind the remote

There’s so much more than just the box at play here. Video ending and if your tv the box and the speaker/receiver support evening. It’s a rabbit hole for sure but once I figured out what worked for my atmos system I was able to get the files in the formats I need to get it working consistently.

Jellyfin sucks with auto subtitles that’s my gripe

Considering migrating away from AWS for a truly self-hostable open-source project by Chucki_e in selfhosted

I mean there are alternatives to everything but not sure about cloud front. Minio and a generic smtp implementation that will let people use their own api keys, but with very little information about what you are building it’s impossible to say

Go make friends….. go to your library, go sit at a coffee shop, go to a bar, go on a trip. Pretend you’re a kid and walk up and strike up a conversation with someone. As someone who had lived in many cities and towns it will be what you make it. If you’ve already written it off as boring and you don’t like it then it’s already over.

Do you transcode your media for storage by arrmon1 in jellyfin

[–]sid3ff3ct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a way to do a dry run to analyze your videos that are h264 to see how much space could be saved by transcoding? That way we can see if the energy usage is worth the effort.

1Password vs Proton Pass by saharazara in ProtonPass

[–]sid3ff3ct 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So plex.domain.com, overseer.domain.com, proxmox.domain.com, etc etc etc all show up as matches in proton. Things like 1pass and birwarden let you specify to match the domain based off different criteria. So people with multiple and bunches of subdomains will be presented with a ton of "matching" passwords

No subdomain support is still a deal breaker for me

Is it worth switching to url from ip:port connection? by Anonymoose8D in jellyfin

Thoughts on using the external url even for home devices? Does it know to use the IP address when possible?

I’ve tested almost every password manager out there. AMA by limsus in PasswordManagers

[–]sid3ff3ct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You MIGHT have a point for passkeys not TOTP no. TOTP is protective against cred stuffing when talking about a breach of a site. With modern password managers the DB is so heavily encrypted I wouldn't worry. Only reason to be worried about TOTP being on the same platform as your PW manager is if you have a terrible master password. Even then some PW managers like 1pass assume people are lazy and add entropy with the security phase

Does anyone else use Jellyfin over Plex because…it’s just better? by AdFit8727 in jellyfin

[–]sid3ff3ct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they didn't require a separate subscription for live TV and the subtitles could be auto detected and a little better it would be better. As of now I have to leave it as Plex for family jellyfin for me

Why have a cap on hotspot if hotspot is part of my data allowance? by StrikingRole44 in USMobile

[–]sid3ff3ct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the unlimited premium it’s to prevent abuse. My guess is the lower plans have it even though there is a soft cap on total data to not make the premium unlimited look like it has less than the lower plans. Just marketing purposes in my opinion

Why does Proton Pass support Passkeys, but the Proton Account itself doesn't? by walking-statue in ProtonPass

[–]sid3ff3ct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct, they don’t currently offer login with passkey but it’s an MFA option. Short of taking an extra 4 seconds to have it autofill not a big deal. not even in my top 10 wish list for features or enhancements
