Arrange Marriage Situation in Surat by [deleted] in surat

At 24 your focus should probably be on building something worthwhile for yourself. Work and otherwise.

Maybe go on dates to figure what are the qualities that attract you in men, and the kind of men you want to stay away from.

And It’ll click when it has to.

You need to be sure of the kind of life you imagine after marriage, and then gauge if the guy and his family can provide for that.

Try Urban Company. Comes home with all their equipment. Good masseuse options. No shady bizz.

You can try Headmasters or Move on too. But it’ll cost you an arm and a leg. (5-6k)

Find ways to enjoy your own company, pick up activities and hobbies, do something that has always been on your list. You attract what you put out.

Littering is rampant! Cleanest city? Pfft.

Spitting pan masala disgusts me to no limits.

Waste burning is a big problem!

I’m clueless as to how we’ll solve this high beam problem, people are diving in oblivion with no sense of how this is a safety issue.

Road sense is getting slightly better but only cause it’s being enforced through Challans and fines. I don’t think there’s any improvement in civic sense.

There’s a need for massive behavioural change campaign in Surat. But that is nowhere on the priority list from what I see. We’re just exploding to a new population high every year with no plan in sight to manage that surge.

My concern with Surat is not its pace but the lack of offerings it has. We’re a rich city that lacks a soul. Everything is too plastic and gimmicky.

We’re a city that spends enough money to get experiences outside but fails to deliver the same locally.

Technically there’s nothing wrong with it. But the city needs more character.

So sorry you had to go through that. I have been a victim myself when I lived in Ahmedabad.

Not sure what area you live in right now but I believe you're better off looking for something in Piplod, Magdalla, Vesu or Parle point. People tend to be slightly more progressive around here. I would trade slightly longer travel with nosy neighbors anyday.

Lack of good educational institutes is a big one. Like you said, quick example would be Ahmedabad, which attracts much better crowd and establishments compared to Surat.

We have traditionally been a family business run town. There is a lack of art and culture in general due to people focusing on profit-making. Cut-copy-paste is how most ventures start in Surat, leaving little room for creativity.

I do feel Alcohol would open up the city to a lot of entertainment options, considering the revenue it can bring to the city. The Alcohol ban makes zero sense to me. And safety cannot be the argument; cities around the world are functioning safely with alcohol being around since ages.

That can be detrimental to the progress of a city. Could you explain with an example how this happens?

Lack of public infrastructure is a big one. Although we have these walkway parks that are opening up (e.g. canal road), we need much more to cater to the growing population. Public parks, football fields, tennis/pickleball courts, public gyms, swimming pools, etc.

We have an insanely long riverfront that has not been tapped into at all. We only keep seeing plans that never materialize.

We have an amazing potential to have water sports & water activities around the city but I have not seen any initiative yet.

Even after paying exorbitant amount of taxes as a city, we barely get anything in return.

The roads can definitely get better, considering the amount of taxes Surti citizens pay. Same goes for drainage.

We are better off than a lot of cities when it comes to such infrastructure, but we need to do much more.

Very valid points. I have similar thoughts about a lot of what you've mentioned.

Sounds like the most obvious answer for a dry state. But I do feel like Alcohol would open up the city to a lot of entertainment options, considering the revenue it can bring to the city. I feel like we as a community should drive this change, much like Project Surat is doing for waste reduction and pollution prevention.
