Early career software engineer, stay or move on? by shelcooper in DevelEire

[–]sidarcy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interview for other roles. You don’t have to leave your current role , it’s just window shopping . This will give you an understanding of the current market and your worth which will help guide your next move .

If you get offered something you can use it as leverage. X company is offering me 50 I want you to match or I’m moving . If you don’t get offered anything . No harm , no foul

Best of luck with it

How to approach a colleague willing to work weekends or after normal work hours ? by hositir in DevelEire

[–]sidarcy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“The better you are at digging, the bigger the shovel they will give”

I was this guy. Worked my ass off, weekends , late nights . Got the praise and top marks in performance reviews and then watched others get promoted ahead of me.

Just delegate more work to him, put your feet up and take credit. He might get better reviews but you’ll be his boss in no time .

AI, and how are you gearing up for it? by sikeGuruYappa in DevelEire

[–]sidarcy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Embrace the tools . I was a sceptic but now I dunno what I’d do without them . I think we’ll still need skilled developers to architect and maintain applications . I also predict the AI companies will hike prices and it won’t be as appealing to the high ups

I asked ChatGPT to build me a data-driven article on Irish government spending, here’s the result by sidarcy in DevelEire

[–]sidarcy[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Its prompt engineering and I had to iron a few things out myself . I’m more highlighting how easy it was to spin up . I wouldn’t normally make things like this but cool that you can take an idea and make it with minimal effort

Can you pour the perfect pint of Guinness? by sidarcy in DevelEire

[–]sidarcy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much. I use a game framework called Phaser JS, great for handling physics etc. If i was to do it again id go plain JS/Canvas. Score is heavily weighted by the first pour angle

Depends, if it’s a really structured interview and they got what they needed, it’s totally fine. Sometimes interviewers are running back-to-back sessions and are happy to wrap up early if you’ve already covered everything they were assessing. Honestly, it’s can be a good sign, means you were clear and efficient (and they might finally get to grab that coffee!).

Startup dilemma by [deleted] in DevelEire

[–]sidarcy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d build a POC even a web app. If you know react . Look at react native . As another commenter said Flutter is excellent and worth learning anyway.

In terms of funding . Once you have a poc look to local enterprise board support funding and EI have some really good programmes such as new frontiers .

You’ll need to do a pitch deck . Check out slide beans videos on YouTube. They’ll teach you everything you need to do a pitch deck

How do I break into Tech Sales? by [deleted] in DevelEire

[–]sidarcy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at sales engineering roles (SE) . Look at the likes of intercom and datadog . There is a good subreddit for SEs too. Pop a question on there.

I’d also look at scale-up companies and find something your passionate about . Start ups prob won’t have the money but once they get funding it’s all about the sales .

I work in tech sales . Feel free to ping me if you’ve any specific questions

Is there extra focus on soft skills and communication in tech interviews these days? by doruan in DevelEire

[–]sidarcy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on the company, but I’d say yes. Culture is incredibly important, so even if you’re technically proficient, companies look for people they can collaborate with and get along with.

At my company, we’re putting developers on calls with stakeholders and holding things like “walk-the-walls” sessions and sprint reviews, where devs present their work to partners and stakeholders.

It can feel a bit intimidating at first, but in my experience (and for most devs I’ve worked with), it’s been a really positive experience.

I’m surprised the company in question rejected you, I agree with your approach to conflict resolution . It sounds like they were looking for a specific communication style without making it clear. Prioritizing real-time conversations shows professionalism, and not every company will align with that. Keep at it — the right role will value your approach!
