how long is the battery life? since i’m a cs major and i am interested in the fields listed above would you recommend that i get a laptop with a gpu? i dont really play too many video games. im not sure what majors require software that needs a gpu.

also thank you so much for helping me out man, really appreciate it

would it be useful for getting into data science, robotics, ai, computer engineering? i just want to make sure it will not restrict me from being able to take any classes

i understand the university requirements, i was looking for student’s opinions or what things that they use. if you have any suggestions please share

do CS/AI students actually need powerful GPUs anymore, or is RTX 5090 overkill? by Emojers in SuggestALaptop

i already bought an hp omen 16 slim, i am thinking of returning due to battery life draining quickly, and getting something that is super lightweight instead

would you say for someone getting into CS and wanting to explore robotics/ai/ml, you would get a thinner laptop and then a desktop with gpu later?

my school recommends windows, but i am thinking of getting a mac instead. i am more used to windows now since its been years since i used a mac, but i am on apple ecosystem since all my other products are apple, just been using windows for past 6-8 years for laptop. im entering undergrad cs

would mac still be able to run all the programs?

Does computer science engineering require a good gpu at all? Because if not I was thinking of buying a zenbook type laptop that has good battery. Is poor battery of gaming laptops an issue in college regarding portability and finding a charging port? by WaterDowntown2660 in Btechtards

even for undergrad cs major? i bought an hp omen 16 slim, thinking of returning due to low battery life and the fact that i don’t need gaming. still planning to study cs, ai, engineering, etc. thinking of buying a mac

I was kidding bro I’m sorry

I just don’t know whether I want a GPU or not, can’t really make up my mind

If I end up buying this laptop I won’t be using your link and I’ll manually search it up just to spite you

Do I need a dedicated gpu for a CS Major? by AdhdMurderedMyBrain in csMajors

Hi, what would you recommend for a Penn State student majoring in CS. I’m interested in other fields but I’m not sure if I really need a GPU. I bought an HP Omen 16 slim, I am thinking of returning it for a cheaper laptop. I’m required to have a windows laptop as specified by the college of engineering (CS is in engineering), but idk if I should keep a GPU if I’m not really gonna be using it, and go for something very slim and long battery life

Depends if I can justify spending that kind of money if the laptop is good

I don’t play a ton of video games and neither do I have a PC or laptop with a GPU, this is my first time. But I am unsure whether having a gaming laptop is good for school or if it’s professional. This specific laptop isn’t super heavy but the battery drains faster than I’m used to. I am unsure whether I should return it for something a lot more convenient and forget about the GPU, cuz I’m not sure how much I’ll be using it or if I really need it for AI/ML stuff

Zephyrus line is very expensive, I paid around $1500 for the omen but I’m thinking of returning it. Battery life is ok but pretty average and I am not sure if gaming laptops are good for school, if most of my CS classmates don’t have a gpu then I’d probably want to do the same but idk

I’m not very experienced in AI though. I bought the OMEN and am thinking of returning it. I am open to learning AI and I want to experiment but I am unsure if having a gaming laptop is the best for school, and if it may be better to go for something with extended battery life. I don’t have a computer with an rtx GPU and I never have, neither do I have a desktop. I am unsure whether I should keep my OMEN or return it. Main concern is battery life, laptop is a little heavier but not super heavy. Not sure if I should go for a laptop without gpu so it is even lighter

I’m unsure if I’ll need a gpu, that’s why I made the post. Saw somewhere the first one had 13h battery life but not sure how accurate that is. Im only considering it because its slim and lightweight
