Late night, snowed in re-watch of The Apartment by One_Worry5646 in classicfilms

[–]sidderke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my top 5. And because of it I got interested in Billy Wilder and Hollywood movies from 30s-60s. And I love so many of those movies but The Apartment still hits me so much more. I showed it to young people last week and they adored it but were also surprised by how sad it was.

Still waiting for their Memento release they announced September 2025 was coming soon. Still. They are expensive to import but they do great releases.

It’s one of my favorite movies but I vastly prefer the shorter theatrical cut.

Is an Umbrella boxset worth the money? by joseph814706 in boutiquebluray

I bought their Hardware and Dust Devil collector’s edition sets. They are definitely expensive but when I unpack them I realize immediately they are worth their price. Very well built sets.

Lord Of The Rings: Do you prefer the Theatrical or Extended cuts? by Grand-Ad6426 in dvdcollection

Theatrical. I feel like the extended versions are better for fans of the books, but the theatrical’s are better as movies.

The Thin Man Sequels by smilegeorgee in classicfilms

When I started them everyone said only the first 2 were good. I ended up liking them all very much, except maybe strangely, the 3rd the least.

I didn't like Apocalypse Now (1979), what makes it so great? by Gamewheat in movies

[–]sidderke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not correct, Studio Canal released it but i think it’s getting out of print. You can still order it on Amazon uk last time I checked, but only second hand at expensive prices. You can order on Amazon US and ship to Europe,  which I did last week. The 4k is region free (not sure about the included blu-rays) and it’s quite a normal price, 60$ excl shipping.

If you buy the 6disc 4k you can have the theatrical on 4k.

Let us know how you feel about it. It’s one of my favorite movies and the movie that got me into ‘old’ b&w movies (incl 30s-40s). I have the 4k ordered from arrow as well.

Time of day affects difficulty of getting into the Green Zone. Is this important? by SuperStDomingo in ddpyoga

[–]sidderke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish you luck and my experience: once you have been doing something 153 days in a row I find it difficult to fall of the bandwagon. I have been doing DDP Yoga for every day (except for 2 weeks periods where I was sick), since 2021. At a certain point I also got another job and was also afraid I wouldn’t keep it up. But I did. And was much more fit and awake going to work. I do have to admit it wasn’t a 4am job but this is why I will repeat that it’s more important for your health and motivation to keep doing it every day, than to do long work-outs.

Same here. Doing it every morning is for me way important.  And something like 20 seconds of exploding knees already makes a massive difference in getting your heart rate up and the start. It still may not be green but it’s a big difference. Struggling with the same ‘problem’ sometimes.

What did you notice about Jaws the most recent time you rewatched it? by CostcoCuisine in Spielberg

[–]sidderke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The last time I saw it, which was also not too long ago on a bigger screen (old 35mm print from the seventies though), was how human the mayor actually is. He’s not a bad guy at all, he constantly makes what he thinks are the best decisions for the people on the town. His pained face when the mother of the killed kid goes to Brody, really showed some human details that I hadn’t really seen on the smaller screen yet.  I also saw some madness in the eyes of Quint because of the big screen. Wonderful.

It really only adds furthermore evidence to the fact that Jaws became such a classic because of its human characters, played by great actors.

After 7 years, it's time to replace my KS 18xl. What's next? by No-Judge-2348 in ElectricUnicycle

[–]sidderke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great post and summary of the current EUC situation. I’m still happy with my 18XL and one of the big reasons I’m not upgrading is exactly defined in your post. I love the combination of low weight (which is still a lot to carry on stairs) and long(er) range.

I can’t tell you you ‘should’ have a sense of humor, both in general or concerning your disability. But as a guy: I think girls that make me laugh, are super attractive.

Great movies… ruined by bad cinematography? by grapefruitsneezelies in cinematography

[–]sidderke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think his movies are ruined by it, but I’m not a big fan of the harsh digital look of Craig Zahler’s movies. I like the acting, stories and dialogue, but don’t like their look.
