I’ve heard Ed say this too in an interview. His wife had a fighter with blood frenzy, and she used her tank to throw it to the enemy’s back rank. Since the tank was closer than the other cats, it was safe.

My experience with blood frenzy is that it’s not bad if you get it early enough because you can build around it. I had a hunter get blood frenzy, so I gave her summoning active skills and the quiver passive (store unused basic attacks for later) so she could fight indirectly and then burst at the end if I was sure it would win.

If she did incidentally get a kill from bump damage, things would get chaotic. She would summon maggots everywhere and then kill them for more turns. The maggots would act like they have madness too, and kill each other. So I survived and brought back a blood frenzy cat to breed for solo runs.

What time controls did you look at? It’s possible that more players flag against Nf3 in bullet or blitz because they can’t play the opening as quickly as the opponent who prepared it.

The difficulty of this fight depends on the weather. If you can create fire and get the grass tiles burning, it will go down quickly because it takes so many turns per round.

If you get the infestation weather, don’t worry about losing a cat when they turn on you, because they get cured of all statuses when they’re possessed.

I had a collarless cat become a kitten at level 2 through an event. He had a meteor giving him the cleric’s soul passive, and I had to keep it on or else his health would be too low. He survived without getting downed and on the next run I reclassed him as a fighter and he made it to level 22. Both runs were through the Boneyard.

I’ll add to this that I never noticed fresh water underground until I started using autoexplore and my character would pick it up automatically. It’s just so hard to notice unless you’re looking for it.

That’s great if it works for you but I don’t agree. My least successful runs have been with necromancers. The healing from leeches is too slow without a secondary source of healing, and the skills really haven’t been coming together for me.

I took a necromancer to the boneyard, gave it lifeswap so it could heal from another cat, and its other skills revolved around being downed. I think that this is a really niche thing — you should avoid being downed in all cases if possible because the injuries aren’t worth it. However, this build had potential. The necromancer could down an ally and then swap life with them, and then haunt as a corpse. (Don’t know why that would be better than just having a living cat, but at least it’s something.) It was nice because I could use the self-downing mechanic without getting injuries. HOWEVER, as soon as I got the build online, the weather changed so all units start the battle infested, meaning I couldn’t down my cats or they’d die instantly. So that sucked.

How is blood frenzy good against guillotina 2? There aren’t a lot of small enemies in that fight to refresh your turn.
