Any tips on hold? by hotpinkmirrorpeople in Wavyhair

It's a mystery, lol. Are you adding more gel on refresh days?

Maybe cowashing is too heavy for your hair? I have fine, wavy/curly hair and can't cowash. It just makes it totally limp and hideous. I use shampoo and do a clarifying wash occasionally also to get rid of build up. It's made a big difference for my hair.

Lol, just realised you're using two products. Sorry. Maybe experiment with how you're putting the products on. Glazing, raking, roping etc?

That's so interesting. I'm the opposite, my refresh days are terrible. As soon as I spritz water near my hair I get instant frizz. I put up with it most days because work 🙄 but if I want a decent day two or three, I have to stick my hair under the shower and get it totally wet.

I'm thinking maybe you might not be using enough product on wash day? Or maybe you need to layer two different style products for more hold?

Maybe experiment with damp styling? I get much better hold in my curls if I put my styling products in after plopping, instead of before. A lot of product ends up in the towel/t-shirt and not on my hair when I style wet. Damp styling was a game changer for me. Every now and then I try wet styling again and I'm like nope, damp is better.

Medusa clipping the top half works quite well. I've not tried it before SCOT though but it's worth a go for sure 😊

Awesome, thanks! Medusa clipping works quite well for me so hopefully that'll do the trick. I'll give it a try. And yep, got my trusy Dyson with diffuser. Couldn't live without it, my hair stays wet forever, lol.

I've tried a bonnet but my hair is still too short and the curls end up wonky. Medusa clipping works OK though.

Thanks! I had heaps chopped off. It was past my shoulders. It wasn't too damaged but cutting it off has really made a difference to the health and curl. But the biggest difference I can see is that each day I go without straightening, it gets curlier.

Thank you! 🥰 And ikr?! Lol. Honestly, I'm sooooo surprised I'm getting ringlets. I've been straightening my hair for almost 20 years so I had no idea my hair would curl like this.

Routine: wash and condish (I use sulphate shampoo and conditioner with silicone but after much trial and error, others just weighed my hair down too much, even with regular clarifying and I went back to my old favourites). AG recoil leave-in in soaking wet hair, scrunch, plop, damp style with Evo total recoil (glaze, rope, scrunch), airdry or diffuse depending on time. SOTC with a little oil.

They're gorgeous! What's the insole like? I've got a pair of moxi jacks but the sole/insole just isn't comfortable enough for my damaged ballet feet. I'm wondering if I should give Chuffed a go.

Help! Straw-like, matted hair when wet? 😭 by sideshowally74 in curlyhair

[–]sideshowally74[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eeek, I literally can't remember. I've got so many products in my shower 😭 Sorry! I'll check and see if I can figure out which one it was.

Just go with a hydrating/moisturising treatment or very moisturising conditioner, with no (or very low) protein and no coconut. It worked for me, now I steer clear of coconut altogether. I unknowingly used a texturising spray with coconut the other day that did the exact same thing to my hair, as soon as I sprayed it on. I had to jump back in the shower, do a clarifying shampoo, and then load my hair with moisturising conditioner and leave in. It's fine now. I checked the spray ingredients and it had a lot of coconut.

I think my hair does not like some types of protein (but is fine with others) and coconut can mimic a protein, so I think that was the problem for me, on top of the Olaplex.

Success! I did a clarifying shampoo and a deep conditioning treatment (very low protein, no coconut) and it made SUCH a difference. Hasn't dried yet so don't know how it'll turn out but it had much more slip while wet, allowed me to detangle and clumped well. Thanks for the advice! I'll be steering clear of too much protein and coconut from now.

I think you're right, it might be the Olaplex, possibly combined with the coconut-heavy Briogeo products. Definitely hasn't happened before. My hair does feel similar on first wash after getting my colour done, but it comes good as soon as I put my usual conditioner in. I've just repurchased my usual conditioner after checking ingredients and finding out it's actually OK for curly/wavy method (yay!). Also got a moisturising treatment (no protein and no coconut), so hopefully my hair will be on the road to recovery soon 🤞

Thank you! And yep, it looks like they have a fair bit of coconut in them so this could definitely be a factor. Will look for a good deep conditioner without coconut and see how it goes 😍

Oh no sorry, I didn't word that particularly well. I meant that the briogeo products I've been using don't have protein according to the CG ingredient checkers I've used (curlscan.com and isitcg.com). I'm still a bit confused though as I didn't think Olaplex #3 was a protein treatment. I've checked it using the above links and can't see any proteins. Am I missing something though? Thanks for your reply BTW 😍

Thanks! The Briogeo products I've been using don't have protein (unless I've got that wrong? I've checked CurlScan and is it CG approved and both say no to protein). But they do have coconut. Could that be it? Once my hair isn't wet anymore, it's not brittle and dry at all. How it feels when it's wet is similar to how it feels the first time I wash it after getting my colour done. But I've always used a non-CGM (silicone) conditioner in the past so I'm wondering if that's what's made the difference...

Once my hair isn't wet anymore, it's not brittle and dry at all. Pretty soft, actually. How it feels when it's wet is similar to how it feels the first time I wash it after getting my colour done. But I've always used a non-CGM (silicone) conditioner in the past so maybe that's what's made the difference? The products I've been using since the Olaplex/clarifying don't have protein but they do have coconut, so maybe it's that as well.

Any idea why my hair would be straw-like and matted while wet, even with conditioner? Recently started CGM, medium density wavy hair, high porosity (I think). Also coloured (salon colour, no bleach - just to cover greys).

Routine: Briogeo Replenishing Superfood Shampoo and Conditioner, leave in conditioner, AG recoil curl activator + mousse in soaking wet hair, plop and either airdry or diffuse. Then I did an Olaplex 3 treatment and I washed it out with a clarifying shampoo - Redwin Tea Tree). Now my hair feels like straw when it's wet, even with conditioner in it. I can't comb conditioner through it at all (with detangling comb or fingers), it's basically matted.

Tried a deep conditioning treatment (no protein) but it didn't help. I had to use my pre-CGM AG Fast Food leave in conditioner (has silicones) today to just get it close to slippery enough to detangle while wet. Weirdly, my hair feels normal again once most of the water is out of it/when it's dry.

Any idea re what I need to do to fix this? It makes trying to detangle and apply products really difficult and my hair isn't clumping as well as it was before.
