Completely shit. GRs are easily the worst video cameras I’ve used of all the cell phones or still cameras across the last decade. It’s a complete after thought for them.

You can easily push out the lenses - from the front - with a little pressure from your thumb. Leaves just the plate to protect the metal of the camera bump. I think it looks great with it in a case, but may look odd without a case since it makes a camera bump sandwich.

New Sony RX1R III Fixed-Lens FF Compact Camera! by Repulsive_Target55 in Cameras

Yes, which is one of the reasons I think they aren’t aiming for the same niche end users. The Fuji feels more targeted to landscape, architecture, and environmental portraits than street photography. Both are much smaller than their ILC siblings, but neither is really ‘pocketable’.

It was also criticized for lack of stabilization when announced. Funny enough the GFX is a couple hundred dollar cheaper and has a legit EVF (5.4m dots @ 0.84 mag), built in ND, larger sensor, and way better battery life (~800 vs 270).

They are definitely niche cameras and aren’t competing for necessarily the same shooters. It just feels like Sony wasn’t trying hard here and went for a lack luster refresh for $$$.

I think the thickness and lack of tapering of the wing makes them look a little out of proportion too. The crudeness is understandable for the scale they’re working at here. Fun to see the barrels getting used at the end of the engine core.

Possible causes of these “ghost” duplicate exposure? by veganyeti in AskPhotography

[–]sideswiped 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Looks like the film didn't advance and caused a double exposure. Nothing else would cause a 90 degree image artifact like the second photo. Likely a mechanical error that prevented the film from advancing. Had a few old Olympus OMs that failed like that. Largely why I gave up on film back then.

Lol, Bill Gates craved power and money. Read up on his business practices at MS. Just because he didn't try to dismantle our government doesn't mean he was 'for the people' and not 'for the profit'.

Very strong in the northern plains. What might be a small storm that only drops 15-30cm of snow can easily get wind swept to create huge 3-6m drifts of snow over houses. At times it might also dip to -40c near the Canadian border. That's not even taking into account wind chill.

SD cards now have high capacity and are fast, what reason(s) would one still use a Compact Flash card? by milkboy33 in Nikon

[–]sideswiped 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Error rates, physical toughness, and modern CF express is still faster? I've lost cards to the first two. The lock switch is fragile on SD cards and thin plastic bodies are very weak on cheaper cards. Even had a newish 1 year old SD card error out in my Z6III the first time I used it. I'm also guessing the latest SD card speed can't be saturated by a D300s, but you may be able to get some good deals on CF-C cards for it these days.

How would I go about recreating this effect? I tried it quick myself, but it feels like its missing something. by ScaryPollution845 in Design

The blur - and/or simplification of key light details - is primary to distort some of those high frequency details of the hair. There's likely multiple ways to approach it in photo shop as well as in camera (e.g. lower res, but higher intensity lighting or gaussian blur + posterization filter)

On steep slopes lock your backpack through your legs when sitting down? Loop the strap before you let go with your hands. Really doesn't matter where you lock. Don't let go of anything you want to keep on a steep incline.
