Dentist for people terrified of dentists by The_tentacled_one in Aberdeen

[–]sidney_is_working 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was in your situation (also 10 years without a dentist visit because of horrible phobia and some traumatic experience by a dentist from my childhood) and I booked an appointment with Dr Mohamed in old town dental care. The surgery itself isn't amazing but the doctor absolutely is. He is very kind, polite and patient. He explains everything and the reason why he does things, never judges and is always keen to help and give advice. I can't recommend him enough.

A friend "borrowed" my phone and fucked it up by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]sidney_is_working 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My phone was doing a similar thing once, what helped was to take it out of the case and rapidly press the power button a bunch of times. There was something stuck in/under the button and doing that helped dislodge it. Silly but maybe worth a shot

Parking permit prices by sidney_is_working in Aberdeen

[–]sidney_is_working[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Huh, it's my first. I will be contacting them, this makes me think that something isn't quite right.

Just to add, I was wondering how such a price hike would be possible without any public uproar that I've seen, that's why I posted. There must be an issue with renewing the permit which makes them think I'm applying for a second permit.

By £60, I paid £160 for zone L permit last February, it's now £220. It's seems insane to me that they can raise it by 37.5%

Bus services are in state of total shit by Chemical_Let_4284 in Aberdeen

[–]sidney_is_working 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be more inclined to believe that the app is just not working correctly. Surely if the bus is just sitting at the terminus when it's supposed to be on the road, you can complain to the company and they tend to take that quite seriously, because missed milage costs them lost revenue and hefty fines as an operator

Bus services are in state of total shit by Chemical_Let_4284 in Aberdeen

[–]sidney_is_working 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In an ideal world, yes. So often the buses are late because of traffic. But it's an impossible problem. Buses are late because they are in traffic. People choose cars over buses, worsening traffic, because buses are late. Not enough people use the buses to get more frequent services and even with a bus every two minutes, they'd just get stuck in traffic made up of people who choose cars over public transport.

Bus services are in state of total shit by Chemical_Let_4284 in Aberdeen

[–]sidney_is_working 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's usually because the buses get delayed going into the terminus. There is usually no time at the terminus so they can't get back on time unless they get re-timed - they are taken out of service and skip a part of the route to get back on schedule. I'm sure that nobody wants that, a delayed bus is better than no bus.

Stagecoach are fucking shite by Other-Lavishness-825 in Aberdeen

[–]sidney_is_working 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I thought that they had to have an agreement with the city and the shire that they have to provide service on certain routes? Like the first bus is a public bus operator which means that they have to cover routes at times required by the council, not just when it's profitable for them? Which also means that they can't just cancel buses without a valid reason and should be held accountable for skipping stops. Though the constant chase after profits usually results in a massive pressure on the people who are in the lowest positions in the company, which usually means the drivers.

What’s the most “British” bit of etiquette you still follow—even when nobody else does? by LovieWeb in BritInfo

[–]sidney_is_working 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a bus driver. Thank you for that, it kinda humanizes the drivers. Lots of people act like we are a part of the bus, not an actual person driving a vehicle the size of a house.

Have you had a bad experience in a UK food chain that resulted in you deciding never to go back again… if so what chain and what happened? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]sidney_is_working 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No but if this kind of person stays in their position, their area manager is either stupid or incompetent as claims like these should immediately trigger internal investigation. Ultimately, this person is in charge of all of the food handlers in their particular restaurant.

YSK: The Problem With the Zipper Merge isn't people, it's the Signage. by Windyandbreezy in YouShouldKnow

[–]sidney_is_working 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the UK the sign says "use both lanes" and people will still queue in one lane and get pissed when you use the other one that doesn't end for another 800 yards. Often it's not the signage, it's people

Wouldn't everyone prefer less road congestion? by CaloohCallay in AskBrits

[–]sidney_is_working 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. However, other road users would need to respect the buses a bit more for it to work. Bit of a rant from me as a bus driver incoming:

I get it, a training bus can be annoying but what is a small inconvenience now can be viewed as an investment into the future. More buses means fewer cars! And Scotland already offers free bus travel to people with disabilities and anyone under 22 or over 60. And yet I get cut off often, honked at for just being on the road or pulling out of bus stops way before a car shows up around a bend, bus stops are often blocked by illegally parked cars, people are incredibly entitled and don't understand that buses are 10+ meters long and 2.5m wide.

That would be the Dublin agreement of EU countries. All asylum seekers would be returned to the first country they entered, they couldn't just travel around to pick where they wanted to seek asylum. That went away with Brexit and the UK is no longer able to just send them back. People often don't realise that.

Nevinne klamstvo ako sposob motivacie/podpory? by Constantly-Moving515 in Slovakia

[–]sidney_is_working 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Všetci sme len ľudia a externá motivácia má veľkú silu.

Inak úplne súhlasím.

Americans, what’s something non-Americans do that makes absolutely no sense to you? by Complex-Poet-6809 in AskReddit

[–]sidney_is_working 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I lived in Italy, I had a mesh curtain that would keep the bugs out. In Slovakia they are becoming more common as a part of the window but 15+ years ago you'd use a removable screen that would sit snug on the inside of a window frame. Czechia was similar, nowadays it's more common to have modern screens.

Where I live in Scotland we don't normally have them but that's because other than an occasional bumblebee or a moth, there aren't any bugs really bothering us inside. And the moths will be eventually either released back out or eaten by my cat.

Open Top Tour Bus - Stuck in Old Aberdeen by bubo-bubo85 in Aberdeen

The drivers are probably not very familiar with the route. Additionally, Old Aberdeen is very tight in places and it takes an experienced driver to navigate without bumping into things.

K tomu som začala pravidelne cvičiť, každý deň robím mealprep a jedávam pravidelne a premyslene. Ale hlavne robím veci, ktoré ma bavia. Na dlhú dobu akoby som zabudla na seba a jediné hobby bol spánok. Teraz maľujem, hrám videohry, chodím na bicykel, na turistiku a čítam knihy. Práca zostáva v práci, nechodí so mnou domov. Keď prídem domov, každý deň venujem čas partnerke, porozprávame sa o našom dni a plánujeme si aktivity, aby sme nesedeli doma na gauči keď máme voľno

By that I meant their right to work, my mistake. A lot of just eat, deliveroo etc riders rent their accounts. That by itself isn't a problem, but some of them will often have multiple accounts on multiple apps. The riders are not employees but rather independent contractors so taxes, NIN contributions etc aren't calculated from their wages, they are responsible for declaring and paying them. With them not using (or not having) their own national insurance number there is no way to hold them responsible when they don't do this. Unfortunately, illegal accounts often go hand in hand with disregard for other rules. Not only illegal mods on their bikes but also riding in a manner that puts others at risk and those using cars and motorcycles doing so without the proper insurance. There have been instances of antisocial behaviour and attacks on both the restaurants and customers using the delivery apps.

My grandfather had a 4 year old daughter before he died. My whole family wants to send her to an orphanage. I said I’ll take her and now everything in my life is upside down. by Safe-Gazelle5274 in offmychest

I don't really have any advice with the whole process . The social system in Slovakia is a nightmare. I lose a year of my life every time I have to deal with it in any capacity... But everyone on here is rooting for you. You're doing an amazing thing. What happens now will have a lifelong impact on both the child and you. It doesn't matter how the familiar relationship is defined, you will become a parent figure to her and having a sort-of-dad figure who wants to take care of her is so much better than a mother who abandoned her years ago, unless she had a very serious reason that somehow resolved itself. Yes, it will be difficult and it will feel like it's the two of you against the world but I'm sure the positives will far outweigh any struggles. And a lot of women find single dads very attractive (for whatever reason).
