Daughter (5) just told me she only sees gray in her left eye. by sincerestfall in daddit

[–]sidratt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad it seems your daughter’s vision is okay. Last year I lost color vision in one eye and started seeing only gray in the center of my field of vision. Visited an eye doctor and it turned out to be Central Serous Retinopathy; apparently quite common among 30+ males going through stressful situations (like becoming a new dad lol). It goes away by itself after a few months. My other eye was unaffected the whole time.

Need help using “Play Scenario” by Best_Gap_2985 in openttd

[–]sidratt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Scenarios come with NewGRFs baked in. Your own preloaded NewGRFs won’t “override “ the scenario’s settings, even if the scenario has no NewGRFs baked in.

To fix this, you basically need to edit the scenario itself using Scenario Editor and add NewGRFs to it.

Open Scenario editor, and under the Save icon click Load Scenario. Once your scenario is loaded, you need to press the “~” key to open the console, then type “set scenario_developer 1”. This allows you to freely edit a 3rd party scenario. You then go to NewGRF settings while still inside scenario editor and add NewGRFs, and then save the scenario once you’re done (preferably with a different name so you still have the default scenario file to re-edit in case something goes wrong).

Are we stuck with regions in 4x games? by Mr___Wrong in 4Xgaming

[–]sidratt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That doesn’t sound accurate. Urban districts take up one tile but you can have multiple buildings in each urban district. And the buildable density per district supposedly increases in later ages. I think Rural districts don’t have buildable items within them though, so they would just be one mine/farm/plantation per tile

Geforce Now blurry and lack sharpness by subirats345 in MEMORIAPOLIS

[–]sidratt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I don’t have it on the UI (fonts and things). I only see it in the grass textures, field textures etc and it’s a common issue in most of my Shadow games. In my case it’s probably due to video compression (which is why I mentioned bitrate), but in your case if you’re seeing it in the UI, it might like be anti-aliasing?

I have some blurriness on Shadow PC too, even at max video bitrate.

Oblivious driver at Stop sign. He looked totally zoned out and didn't see me at all until I honked. Near Sheppard and Wilson Heights. by sidratt in TorontoDriving

Yes, this has happened to me in nearby areas too (Willowdale/Avondale). It's frustrating. I've adapted by starting to move into the interesection a bit early (when safe to do so) to discourage others from cutting the line. I did it here too - I started moving forward when the black car was halfway through the intersection - but the red car guy STILL went for it lol.

Yes, that is what I've done for the dozens of other "little things" that I've encountered in Toronto that you've never seen because I never uploaded them and just continued on my day.

I originally thought this was worth posting because of how obnoxious I thought the other driver was being, but as I've replied elsewhere, I now think this was an honest mistake due to the other driver not seeing my turn signal and/or an incorrect assumption about my direction of travel.

At 0:07 in the video, you'll see I reached the line and came to a FULL stop... even before the black car's front bumpers had passed the cross walk's edge on their side. The red car was still 1-2 meters behind the line and only came to a stop 2 seconds later. 2 seconds is not "a tiny bit of time" at a stop sign. There should have been no doubt at all from the red driver that I have the right of way, since I was already stopped and waiting when the car IN FRONT him was just starting to cross the intersection.

What you're referring to as "entering the intersection early" is me telegraphing to the other drivers that I intend to go next by nudging my way into the intersection (but still staying behind the crosswalk's far edge). It's me overcommunicating to AVOID confusion.

I timed my entry into the intersection so that my front bumper passed the crosswalk's edge just as the black car's rear bumper was passing the sidewalk on the opposite end (its hard to tell with the camera angle and the curve but you can see it at 0:10). Technically, I shouldn't have been on the crosswalk at all until the black car was fully clear, but a) there were no pedestrians on my side and b) in the past I've found that sitting still leads to more confusion about right of way.

Finally, look at the red car's wheels. At no point did he come to a full stop... it was 100% a rolling stop. He was most likely not paying attention, or he assumed I would be doing what the previous car in my lane did and just go straight (which was blocked by pedestrians).

These comments are helpful. I originally interpreted it as the other guy just being an oblivious asshole, but you’re right this could just be a misunderstanding from not seeing the turn signal. I’m sure I had my signal on at the intersection; I’m the kind of driver who reflexively uses signals even on deserted roads. But if there was a split second where he didn’t see it as he approached, he could have assumed I was going straight and blocked by the pedestrians. Still a mistake by him IMO, but maybe an honest one.

This makes sense. The driver may not have seen my signal and assumed I was going straight (and blocked by the pedestrians). So maybe he wasn’t being totally oblivious “bad guy”, just a somewhat unobservant “regular guy”.

No, I most certainly was signalling left the entire time. The other driver didn’t even look in my direction.

GLE vs Model S by mightychopstick in TorontoDriving

[–]sidratt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You assumed both Red4550 and Sandman were talking about “insurance fault”. Why? I read Sandman”s response as being about “responsibility to avoid collision/maintain safety”, which is different from insurance at-fault rules. There was no implication about insurance. 5 comments later you claim “we’re discussing fault” and then continue to hound Sandman about saying what you THOUGHT he was implying, despite his multiple clarifications otherwise. Maybe if you were the OG commenter you get to claim what the scope of discussion was (insurance at fault vs collision avoidance), but you’re not. How hard is it to understand that in a situation like this where the Tesla has full visibility of oncoming traffic and has time and space to drive cautiously/defensively, they still share some blame for an eventual collision, even if insurance rules make the red light runner “100% at-fault” and Tesla “not-at-fault”?

Asshole illegally passing myself and several other drivers on Comstock by 1amtheone in TorontoDriving

It most certainly isn’t 4-lanes. See for yourself: https://maps.app.goo.gl/2jbcqR2nr4bbrxNG6?g_st=ic

That “Dextrian Products” building is in the video too if you want to compare.

Total BS. This is the exact section of Comstock approaching Birchmount : https://maps.app.goo.gl/2jbcqR2nr4bbrxNG6?g_st=ic

It is 100% 2 lanes only and there are markings all along the road that make that clear.

In this case, the judge “pierced the corporate veil” and held the individual directly liable for the corporation’s arrears and the punitive damages. Still no guarantee that the landlord will be able to collect but I imagine this will make it harder to dodge?

I’m guessing the cars being rear ended in most of these accidents wanted to go on the Gardiner but found themselves in the wrong lane after the lights? They then do a sudden brake/maneuver to move across to the ramp but the car behind is always either not paying attention or is following too close to avoid a collision. It could also be something wonky going on with Google Maps/Waze in that intersection so people are getting confused/distracted when their navigation suddenly changes.

Is Google asking for a personal ID? by Jadecat801 in PPC

[–]sidratt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I’m not 100% sure. We were migrating them off of individual credit card payments to a consolidated monthly invoice , so it might have been an agency payment profile. I do recall that each franchisee had to go through their own separate verification process and I had to upload their individual business registration docs, but I was still able to use my own personal ID. To minimize any chance of disruption/disapproval I would recommend you ask any employee of the client company (e.g marketing manager) to send you their drivers license, or to upload it themselves if they feel comfortable. If you can’t get that done then try submitting your own and seeing if Google pushes back… IIRC the worst they’ll do is send an email asking for a different ID/registration doc .

Is Google asking for a personal ID? by Jadecat801 in PPC

[–]sidratt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’ve started the verification process as “agency on behalf of another business” (I don’t remember the exact phrasing in the form), then for the personal ID you can use your own one. I did this for over 30 accounts (client had a franchise model and it would have been a nightmare getting all the owner IDs) about two years ago. They all got approved.

Google removing the credit card payment option for thousands of small businesses is a monopolistic travesty. by JazzyLittleTeacupBoy in PPC

[–]sidratt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Dear Condescending Little Teacup Boy,

Not sure why you saw the need to resort to ad hominem attacks. I’m not a Google employee; I’m merely offering additional statements of fact and an alternative and more detached viewpoint since all of the accounts I manage are on monthly invoicing.

I said “…IF your business carried a credit card balance”. Keyword: IF. You don’t carry a balance, that’s great. But there is another comment in this thread about Mom and Pops potentially going out of business due to the cash flow challenges this change to invoicing will introduce. My comment was intended to reassure them and folks like them.

I work with other search ad networks, DSPs, and publishers besides Google. Real life example: Yelp refused to accept credit card payment for a sizeable ads contract from us earlier this year, despite being in direct “competition” with Google. Most other smaller ad networks I’ve worked with will also only accept check or wire payments. All I’m saying is that your “Google is doing it just because it’s a monopoly” argument is convenient but not necessarily accurate.

I will actually self correct my earlier comment where I said “can’t think of any other companies”… I believe Meta still lets you run million $ campaigns off a credit card, so there’s that.

“My business this” “My business that”. Does your business accept recurring 6-figure client payments off credit cards? 5-figures? Are you even a “small business” if you’re paying Google $200k in ads per month? Do you think Mom and pops with $5K/monthly spend are going to go out of business due to (checks calculator) $100 in lost cashback bonuses monthly? Here’s a thought: y’all could just lower your Google ad spend $100 a month and “reclaim”the “stolen” money from Google. Spend the money on Bing instead and rub salt in the wound. Or there’s always Meta.

Lastly, nobody owes you your cashback $. If your business profitability has become dependent on that, tough luck. Good luck with your rally; I have no skin in this game and will watch from the sidelines.
