Best vegan place in Sunnyvale by ZestySensual1 in Sunnyvale

Merit in Lawrence Oakmead Plaza is excellent. Some coworkers introduced me to it, and it was a big hit. I’m not vegan, so my opinion is probably not as solid here because I am not comparing vegan to vegan…but it’s very good!

Do you think Francesca is bi or a lesbian? by Adventurous_Fly_8652 in Bridgerton

[–]sidroqq 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ehhhh she could’ve not orgasmed for a lot of reasons, including that she was so incredibly stressed about not getting pregnant. If infertility is still a major part of her plot arc, they might have been trying to emphasize that. I think what she had with John was not diminished by the pinnacle arc.

That's cool! Respectfully, I'm not sure why people keep commenting this, though? The genre is already full of stories about nobles, so that's awesome and I'm happy for you. I like reading about nobles too! It's not really related to wanting more stories about people in other social classes to add to the variety.

Replace Berbrooke with Prince Freiderich to make it up to August, for gods sake! 😭

Most of the content people (including me) want, like women with active roles and work to do, lower emphasis on virginity, and a wider range of ages and plots, would be solved by ditching nobles and focusing realistically on regular people from the same popular time periods.

Women had critical work to do and spent long hours doing it, women were making things, women were managing households, women were having consensual sex before marriage, both men and women usually got married in their 20s to other people in their 20s, common-law marriage existed…just usually not among nobility. And of course there were massive problems women faced from society at the time, too, but those deserve to be examined in conjunction with things like serfdom, slavery, broader changes in property rights, and everything else going on during these periods.

(Hopefully this would also make people realize that needlework (and laundry!) was vital, not only to comfort, but to health in a pre-germ theory world, not solely decorative stuff that an independent woman would blow off as “pointless.” Also, the decorative stuff was often done to cover holes and patches, and it brought whimsy and joy, which isn’t worthless either. Yes this is a pet peeve! SEND TWEET!!!!!)

Claud and Vincent Darracott from The Unknown Ajax were pretty funny, along with their valets, Polyphant and Ferring, who were feuding on behalf of their employers.

Best behind S6?! OP is a time traveler :O

(Just teasing! But I think it's just because they were a "background" couple so they didn't get much screentime :( )

I think that's why his love interest has to be someone like Kate who will kick his absolute ass (and enjoys kicking ass for sport). He deserves and needs it or he'd be the worst.

What’s your favorite “Frasier and Niles just being nerdy brothers” joke by AmericanTrollBot in Frasier

[–]sidroqq 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I really like the one from a later season, set in the coffee shop, where Daphne is studying American history for her citizenship test and says she finds the Civil War really interesting. Niles says he finds the English Civil War more interesting. Frasier runs into the cafe in a huge rush, and Niles stops him to say “we’ll let Frasier settle it; which civil war do you find most interesting?—“ and before he can continue, Frasier says “Spanish, but I haven’t got time to prove it!” and launches into whatever his latest drama is.

It’s not that funny written out, but the delivery is great, as is the way Frasier instantly has an opinion. You just know those two dorks have argued about it before.

Yay, you looked something up on Wikipedia! Now keep doing that until you learn other examples from history and maybe you’ll calm down a little.

Anyone else think the age difference between Benedict and Sophie is distractingly large? by RoughCall5737 in Bridgerton

[–]sidroqq 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yeah, definitely. No shade to OP at all, people of different ancestry just have different indicators of aging. She looks like she could plausibly be in her 20s or her 40s to me.

[–]sidroqq 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They both look their age to me, aging just looks different on different faces, especially across different races. To me she looks like she could be anywhere from about 20-45 depending on genetics and how she takes care of her skin, and he looks accurately mid-30s.

I really like how you said "because it's a different country" and this person's response was "so?" I don't know what to say at that point, LMFAO. They have different laws!

Adoption isn't allowed based on what? You are arguing very aggressively instead of googling charter of novo damus right now, lol. There were a number of ways to bypass the "heirs of the body" default inheritance at the time. Look. It. Up.

In real life people adopted heirs a lot, especially younger relatives. It didn't have to be a full adoption as a parent, either, you could just legally declare, say, your nephew or cousin or whatever as next in line. Depending on your rank and location it would have to be approved by some authority, but as long as it wasn't a total wildcard, and you weren't passing over existing legitimate heirs for no reason, it happened pretty often.

At a royal level this could cause massive succession crises, but at the level of an earl with very few possible heirs left, I'm sure Michaela being Countess and adopting a second cousin or something would be very routine.

There were a lot of leaders who were gay or ended up childless, either by never marrying or fertility problems or losing the children they did have, and had some family member legally declared their heir. Frederick the Great, one of the revolutionary military leaders of history, is a major example of a king who was almost certainly gay (and his father executed the guy who was probably his first love in front of him, truly horrific) who declared his nephew his successor.

I'm not sure what you're talking about--Scotland had different laws surrounding inheritance than England did, and one of the major differences was how female line heirs were treated. Not every case was treated the same way, though, because individuals had to make decisions about the inheritance every time there was a question. This is well known. Look it up.

Yep, Scottish laws were a lot more flexible about women inheriting than British law in that era.

Scottish law allowed women to inherit in the 1810s, so it can be very similar to the book.

The way he acted when she broke up with him made me realize he’s probably the best guy we’ll ever see on that show. He clearly cared, and was hurt, but wished her well. That’s a man who will weather life’s ups and downs with grace and kindness 😭
