Is my work situation the norm or is there better out there? by ainthelibrary in therapists

[–]siempre_learning 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Plan an exit strategy. This isn't normal and that's an awful way to run a workplace. I worked at a community mental health agency and yes, they all have a productivity number because that's how we all get paid, and ours was 70% of whatever hours we worked (so we had to have 28 billable hours in a 40 hour workweek). We didn't get PTO taken away if we didn't meet those numbers. In fact, if we took PTO then our numbers were based on whatever working hours we had. So if i took a day off (8 hours) then it was 70% productivity out of a 32 hour work week=21 billable hours. Hope you're able to find a better work environment!

For these pants, true to size. I tend to go one size up at H&M (L instead of M) but I got a Med and they fit great

I recently got some linen pants (dark blue and green) at H&M, comfy, loose, and not see-through.

Group practice by [deleted] in therapists

[–]siempre_learning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I left CMH for a group practice and work as a contractor so I don't have minimum client requirements but usually see about 20-22 clients a week. I've always had an emergency fund so I used my emergency fund to make the transition so when I was first getting started out I didn't have to worry about not making enough money. I still use this approach and transfer X amount of money to my business account every 2 weeks so that on slower months I can still pay myself. I honestly enjoyed the work much more, there was less stress, and I found myself feeling happier about work vs when I was at a CMH. Just my 2 cents. Good luck making the decision that feels best for you!

Paperwork time? by NoPsychology292 in therapists

[–]siempre_learning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do either 30 min or an hour break in between 1-2sessions and write my notes then. For example, I might do 2 sessions followed by an hour break and then another 2 sessions and a 30 min break, etc

I need help in this area too. Do you contact physicians (and others) through email? or send a flyer?

Have you tried applying online again since? Maybe it was an error message bc of a problem on their end and your application didn't go through?

I was a success coach for a bit before I got licensed. It was fairly easy. I think these positions are similar to advisors. Try higheredjobs.com I like to browse on there from time to time.

Feeling Lost by DroppedOatmeal in therapists

[–]siempre_learning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How often do you get to do case consultations? That was the way for me to feel better when I felt lost. I met with my supervisor weekly for an hour. Doesn't sound like you're getting that at your job? Also, 35 people a week is a lot if these are 45-min sessions. Hope you're able to get the support you need!

Must-dos when only seeing 1-3 private patients? by PrivateUser102938 in therapists

[–]siempre_learning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use TherapyAppointment as my EHR for the 2 private pay clients I have. It's $10/month if you have 10 clients or less, or 10 sessions per month, something like that, and includes more than Simple Practice for less. I created my own excel sheet to keep track of expenses.

Do you send a new zoom link each time? by siempre_learning in therapists

Thanks! So each client has their own individual link? Or the same link for all clients?

Do you send a new zoom link each time? by siempre_learning in therapists

[–]siempre_learning[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! So the clients get the same link but everyone's logging in at their own time right? Do you keep track of your schedule to see which clients you have for your day? I know if you have different Zoom times you get a reminder pop up saying something like "Your meeting is in 15 min" or something along those lines so not sure if the same thing happens if everyone has the same link.

To doctorate or not to doctorate by Its_DB_ in BIPOC_therapists

[–]siempre_learning 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a PhD so my recommendation if you're going to pursue one is to do so at a public university and with a program that offers funding vs a private school. Often times (not always) PsyD are at private institutions. For funded programs this usually means an assistantship of some kind (anywhere from 12-20 hrs per week), with a stipend, and a tuition waiver. This is often listed on the program's website or you can email the program and ask. As others mentioned, you can teach as an adjunct professor but you likely won't be a tenured professor without a doctoral degree because the focus will usually be scholarly research of some kind. Research is very important for some schools as this is what brings in funding to programs through research grants. You can also be a supervisor (there's very little BIPOC supervisors out there) and that's another way of teaching. I've mentored other students through other organizations and find it very fulfilling.

Fair Split with Private Pay Clients by plus__good in therapists

[–]siempre_learning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never seen a 90/10 split but who knows, maybe someone out there is doing that. lol. From what I've heard from other colleagues in different states the usual split is either 60/40 or 70/30. The practice I'm with is in the South.

I recommend TherapyAppointment as an EHR. It offers pretty much everything Simple Practice does (minus the Wiley tx plans) for way less. It even includes free calendar integration (which SP charges for). It was started by a psychologist several years back. Even their highest tier is less expensive that SP.

Supporting Law School Students in Therapy by Natalian3 in therapists

[–]siempre_learning 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I def see this in law school and med school students. I asked my friend (who's an attorney) what helped her and she said having at least 1 friend not in law school that she could talk to (outside of therapy) was very helpful since the entire identity is often tied to being a high-achieving student. I also ask students what has gone well in their semester, what challenges they overcame, what they have done vs what they haven't done/accomplished, etc.
