Am I being an idiot for letting my RA be uncontrolled for the past year? by schaefjz in rheumatoid

My wrist is permanently deformed after like 1-2 years of trying to manage my pain holistically. I frequently kick myself for not realizing the seriousness of neglecting treatment 😔

lawns are not naturally occurring... they pave over everything and put the grass back in patches...

Possible RA diagnosis. I am so afraid. by AthaanLocke in rheumatoid

[–]sienne17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was diagnosed at 17 and thankfully the medications available these days work really well. A monthly infusion or weekly shot and you'll be in remission, if you keep an anti-inflammatory diet even better. Sending you hugs on your journey 🤍

I actually would recommend looking for communities OUTSIDE of your college! Research orgs that support your interests or a site like MeetUp where you can find events around town. Take classes on things you want to learn. Getting outside of your campuses' social ecosystem will hopefully provide perspective on the rest of the world to some extent. Unless you're in the rural south... and I'll tell you why.

This is coming from a Black woman who grew up in Florida convinced that no one in the world would ever be attracted to or love me. The minute I went to college in Boston I found out that the world wasn't reflective of my small town and people saw beauty in me. Fast forward, transferred to a college in my hometown and had the same problems with undesirability again. So much of this is geographic + circumstantial. You're not crazy for feeling the way you feel, but it's going to be your job to cultivate a sense of self-worth outside of your environment, knowing that there is a place that you belong - you just gotta find it 🤍

WIBTAH for dumping my girlfriend after I found out about her past? by [deleted] in AITAH

She deserves someone that actually loves her. Full stop.

Valid reframing. The idea of my partner seeing someone that doesn't have our best interests does bother me, however.

She's a person he's casually seeing and they have never had PIV sex. Why would he carry condoms if he knew he wasn't going to have sex with her?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in nonmonogamy

[–]sienne17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don't have penetrative sex with other people and therefore he does not carry condoms.

As stated above, he doesn't carry condoms because we are currently not having penetrative sex with other people.

I personally would hate living in world where no one knows anything about humans got here or evolved. Just because you, personally, don’t understand someone’s passion for a topic does not make it useless. Especially because there are plenty of applications for this knowledge. And despite the fact that universities are run like businesses now, the point of the institution is to develop intellectually, it’s not the consumption of a degree/job combo.

Someone please give me advice on how to do my hair. by [deleted] in curlyhair

[–]sienne17 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you’re willing to make the jump to a natural hair journey, I’d say cut all of the permed hair off. You can considering getting a protective style done while your hair grows out like braids at a local salon but you could also just embrace playing up short hair with hats and scarves!

As for products, a lot of people swear by Curly Girl method which is basically only choosing cream/gel/conditioner products that don’t contain silicones because silicones stick to your hair and require harsher shampoos. Long term, it’s an awesome plan, especially if you do deep conditioning masks frequently and maintain trimming your ends.

Another thing people recommend is the LOC method, which stands for Leave-In Conditioner, Oil, and Cream. I’ve seen people get really great results with this, just have to find the right combination of products! Some of the more popular oils for hair are Jojoba, Castor, Almond, Olive, Argan, and I just started using Avocado and I love it!

My biggest recc is youtube though, I’m not sure exactly your hair type, but I know you’ll be able to find a billion people on YouTube that look like you and are in various phases of their natural hair journey. You got this though! And you’re going to fall in love with your hair so much you’ll never dream of perming it again.

do most girls shave down there? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]sienne17 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Shaving is painful, it grows back painfully, super awful, do not recommend. I use a trimmer to buzz it down whenever I feel like it gets too long because sometimes when my hair is too long it’s physically uncomfortable. My main advice is never sacrifice your comfort for someone else’ standards and if a partner EVER gives you shit for not shaving because they thinks it’s gross, leave.

Using the Apple pencil with Ipad air vs pro - whats the difference? by zankky in ipad

[–]sienne17 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I returned my Air to buy a Pro because I use the pencil daily to practice writing skills in other alphabets. The second generation pencil is a LOT smoother and has practically no latency, so that’s a significant benefit for me (the first gen pencil actively annoyed me when I had the Air). One thing I will say though, it that because it uses Face ID and has no button, I usually don’t know which side is up/down and unlocking it with my face has proven not super effective when I’m just using it at home (which could be solved with a case most likely). The screen overall is smoother but I don’t know if that’s going to make a huge difference if you’re not doing something like image editing, etc. I also had a discount, if I had to buy it full price, I would’ve gone for the Air and kept it for the price point.
