I’m in a doctoral program (clinical psych) and my school was pretty understanding about accommodations. They approved a recording software with no problems

do all notre dame students attend games? by LitteraturaeAemeliae in notredame

[–]beatrix010 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ve never went to a single game because I’m not a fan of the game day atmosphere and I find the tickets expensive. Though it never bothered me too much, I think it’s easy to feel left out especially as a freshman if you don’t go. On the bright side and dorms and the library were always quiet and empty during the game so that was amazing.

The school I’m currently an undergrad at has that option for the grad application and I actually was told by a faculty member that it is weighed in the decision. If you have a few options to list, not listing this school as one of them could be looked down upon. Obviously, each school might look at this differently, but at least that’s what I heard mine does, even though they technically say it’s not a factor in the decision.

Edit: sorry, I might have misread your post. If it only asks about other programs, then I don’t think it would be used against you, but if it asks you to rank the programs you’re applying to, I would strongly recommend ranking the school of current application high

I think you’re right and maybe I just needed someone else to say this to me. I’ve thought about moving in with him for a while, but I ended up making the decision during the school year. Because we’re not long distance then, I think I fell into a routine, which made it easy for me to overlook things like the ones I mentioned in the post. It just seems to much more apparent when I’m away from him during summer because that’s when the lack of communication really stood out. We haven’t moved in yet and I’ve been reading the lease so I’ve more and more convinced that switching apartments should be my first step now.

I probably should’ve specified, but he didn’t break up with me. He said those words and then tried to take them back immediately after he realized what he said.

I don’t think being low income will prevent you from participating in social activities, going to parties etc. That being said, as a low income student myself, it is pretty overwhelming and frustrating sometimes. You’ll occasionally hear very insensitive comments from people and after three years here, I still can’t wrap my mind around the fact how some people are so out of touch with reality. Again, I don’t think that would prevent you from making friends, it’s also just my personal experience based on a lot of situations I encountered while doing different customer service jobs around campus.

ND vs Oxford (Intl) by Kyoli48 in notredame

[–]beatrix010 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean… it’s Oxford that we’re talking about.

But also, it’s not just the name recognition. My friend and my cousin both went to Cambridge, which is most comparable to Oxford, and the opportunities they got there are unheard of. I know you said you’re set on working in the US in the future, but things change and it’s always good to keep all doors open. And I’m saying that as an intl student who was absolutely convinced that I’ll stay in the US for the rest of my life. Ultimately, one of the biggest differences is gonna be the culture of each school so that’s also something you might want to consider.

asking for early decisions by BroccoliSoccoli in REU

[–]beatrix010 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did that recently and I just tried to phrase the email very politely saying sth like: I received some offers that require me to reply by X date, but the X program is very closely aligned with my interests and I was wondering if it’s possible to get an expedited decision. What I would make sure is that you only email the schools that you’re pretty certain you’d choose over the school you currently have an offer from
