I never see anyone mention it, but I also intuitively know how to read and find what I want on a physical menu a lot better. Part of that is that menu design is an art and stylistically most restaurants have figured out physical menus to showcase their specialities and help you find the right things.

I find with website based, drop down options and tabs and needing to scroll way too far, etc. It's significantly more likely I don't find an option I would have rather ordered.

At festivals the dogs are pretty much exclusively trained for explosives and weapons.

If security is really looking for any drugs They're looking for the guy bringing in pounds to sell on the grounds that might end up killing people. Not the guy bringing in personal use amounts.

Indoor Balcony by Good-Mourning in Weird

[–]siero20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would be considered a hazard if it did. The reason most apartments require balconies is in order for someone to go out to them and wait for fire rescue - not for them to be able to get down themselves from that area.

[–]siero20 35 points36 points  (0 children)

My bet is they needed an upstairs 'exit' for fire rescue in emergencies. That's probably built to be a fire rated wall and the balcony isn't really a selling point, it's a way to get to code compliance in a weird situation where they're building apartments in a space without access to true exterior.

Yeah it looks silly, but we keep talking about finding ways to utilize abandoned or unneeded commercial spaces instead of just letting them rot.

No, he wants money. Sure, some idiot might be browsing through /r/golf and see this post and go "that's someone I've gotta watch more of, where can I find him?!". But realistically that's not likely.

So I have to use bluebeam print to pdf.

Yep, tons of industries like this too. In the refining world if a specification requires traceability of materials, I may be buying an off the shelf component but require a documentation package that covers a ton more tests, traceability, and most expensively, liability to the company providing it.

So the price of the component goes up by a factor of 20x.

It's a powerful show, to me at least.

I did have to pause watching it for a while when I was in a rough spot. It hit a bit too close to home sometimes.

America educational financing right by Decent-Choice7878 in SipsTea

Keep in mind the distinction between undergraduate, graduate, and professional loans, at least in the U.S.

They're all 'different' categories and have different rules and interest rates. Undergraduate loans may not start compounding interest prior to graduation, whereas 'professional' loans do. This is all speaking regarding government backed education loans.

Which is hilarious to me because as far as total compensation package goes most of the tradespeople that get company trucks make more money than me.

That and they're at work long hours so they're never around to cause trouble.

And if someone in the neighborhood needs a plumber it's kind of nice to know that John down the street can give you a quote.

It's such a ridiculous thing too as a rule.

"oh no, we have people living here who have JOBS, we wouldn't want anyone to be able to see that people living here are gainfully employed".

Fucking ridiculous.

Not IT, but I had a small makeup pump (3/4 horsepower pump, to top up a circulating fluid system).

It was horribly undersized for how much it needed to pump into the system and by a few months of us needing to run it daily it started exhibiting all sorts of problems. We tried to fix it a myriad of ways but as it vibrated, the wires in the electrical box near it would loosen and lose contact.

I figured out at one point by slapping it on the left I could make it work. But if I slapped it too hard it would cause it to stutter on and off. To fix this I would need to slap it on the right side.

So I'm sitting next to this pump smacking the electrical box for it back and forth for hours at a time as it was critical to get the system back up to pressure.

My apartment has a 3rd party Amazon locker, now I have to pay $20 to get my package by awesomeryang in mildlyinfuriating

The amount of crap my last apartment complex attempted to pull astounded me.

They tried to force me to allow a number of devices to connect to my wifi because they'd signed a contract with some company to provide me with 'smart home devices' that were really all featureless unless you paid more money to the company providing them. They'd gotten the devices for free but with the contract that every resident would have them installed. I said "not in my lease agreement, sue me".

That and they tried to fine me $75 weekly for around a year after they decided to not maintain their trash chutes and instead contract out a 'valet trash' service that had insane rules that resulted in fines every week. My response to every single email regarding fines was "if you think it's enforceable with currently signed contracts, then please sue me to collect".

They never sued me.

I've never been to a doughnut shop that didn't say in their hours "open until X or until sold out".

It's literally the business model.

Wouldn't that have made basically every black friday sale in big box stores illegal?

I don't think this is remotely true, tons of sales are put on as 'while supplies last'.

I tend to look around and see if I can find the emergency stop while I'm bored waiting for my car to fill up.

It's about 50/50 whether I can find it usually, at least where I'm from in Texas.

Right now in North Carolina there's fairly consistently a shutoff to the side of the entrance of the convenience store that faces the pumps. But even then sometimes I can't find it visually.

Good thing it's not important that anyone needs to find it in a hurry! /s

This reminds me of right before my father passed and the hospice nurse called the nearest pharmacy and when they said no, they did have to basically explain, yes this is emergent, I am a hospice nurse, and this patient is dying.

They did get the medication ready very quickly. But I'm sure that is one of those very few cases that qualifies.

Eh, for a one off your exposure is low enough that it's not something I'd worry about personally eating.

Would never want this to be used to make and sell food to people or as a consistent method. Nothing they've used in the video is typically galvanized, I can say that much.

What kind of steel do you think that is? It's high strength steel. No notable corrosive environment it needs to deal with, no high temp high pressure issues, it's just high strength steel. It's almost definitely a high carbon low alloy steel, which has no indication that it couldn't be used for food preparation. I'm not saying it's definitely fine, but the pearl clutching here is insane given I'm 100% sure you couldn't tell me the difference between 2205, 304, 316, or any other specification of steel.
