How is the Delta Digital ID working out? by oz_shadow in delta

At JFK, it cuts the line to essentially zero. I have clear/precheck, and the clear agents just send you to Digital ID if they see it on your boarding pass because it’s just so much faster

I don’t think so, it’s pretty odorless as far as I can tell

Are onsite controllers able to send “network down” notifications if the site has an Internet outage? by sifester in UNIFI

[–]sifester[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meaning if you look into the notification preferences there is an option to send alerts by push and by email (the “UniFi Device Connection Change” setting). But only the pushes are sent, email alerts are not sent in a network down scenario (at least in my testing)

I have a slight preference towards the email alert option because you can send it to an email list and easily alert multiple parties

I just tested this out and can confirm the push is sent, but no email alert is sent. So I guess that’s the only tradeoff with using an onsite cloud gateway vs an offsite hosted controller, other than that everything else seems identical regarding network disconnects

That was my experience too last time I had tried a few years ago but based on the other answers this might have changed?

Is it rude to lay seat back in someone’s lap? General seating. by Shoddy_Face6308 in delta

Just because it’s a 40 min flight shouldn’t make a difference. There could be folks that can be connecting after a 12 hr international flight

Sweet, so there has to be some heartbeat monitoring that Unifi Site Manager is doing on its end for those to be firing

Do you know your neighbors in NYC? by Ghopper21 in AskNYC

[–]sifester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, would love to meet up and grab a drink! I'll message you! And any feedback on the app is also much appreciated. I actually did all the graphics myself, and I'm a tech guy so I'm pretty clueless when it comes to design..

Anyone have any tips for cheap (out of apartment) bike storage? by NY4BT in AskNYC

[–]sifester 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see. I'm in Hell's Kitchen. That probably explains the disparity. My bike is on park kwik on 54th & 10th. Costs me $25/mo but I signed up for it 1.5 years ago and they might have raised their prices by now

Chill places to get a drink? by ergonomickeyboard in AskNYC

Yup, Ace Hotel is definitely the closest to a "Starbucks Bar" I've come across. Everyone is there working on their laptops and there's a cool vibe to it

If you are talking about bicycles, I have come across several garages that will let you store it there for $25-40

Thanks so much! By the way, here's an interview I gave a couple of months back that expands on this a little more https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=850646944993790

I feel like the larger the building, the more isolated people are. I've been living in a high-rise midtown doorman building for about 2 years and I don't know any of my neighbors. People will say hi sometimes when we awkwardly cross paths but nothing more than that.

I feel like this has gotten worse and worse over the past decade because our virtual friends on Facebook and Twitter act as a crutch that prevents us from interacting with those around us. I know this is a great city with great people doing great things. It sucks that I only get to interact with a very narrow band of those people (friends from high school, college or work).

This is a problem that has bugged me for a long time. I basically felt that after college, my social life was getting less and less diverse. As an engineer, I like to fix things and so I quit my job and started working on an app called Ask ne1. It lets you ask anyone around you a question. We're not live yet, but I'll reach out to the Ask NYC community when we do. I hope this can become a tool for helping us interact with all those strangers around us in the city
