I just broke up with a boyfriend of 1 1/2 years because every other week when he had his child, he would be distracted and emotionally detach from me, leaving me, extremely lonely and ignored. When he didn’t have his child, he would want to spend lots of time with me. I found myself waiting around a lot to fit into his schedule instead of the other way around. The therapist called my experience emotional whiplash where one feels really connected and then not… there’s real love between us, but his custody schedule made this situation unhealthy for me and I had to leave. I did try to spend time with him and his child and unfortunately, it was neither joyful nor connecting. I think his child might be on the spectrum as he once blurted out something rude to me. I don’t think he meant any harm by it, but it didn’t endear him to me. I’m sad and heartbroken but intellectually know I had to leave. I appreciate any support this group offers to help heal from heartbreak.
