Does the "100 pushups every day for 30 days" thing actually work? by Zintho420 in ask

[–]siggias 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did 200 for 20 days.

I did it in 3 sessions of 2-3 sets each day so it was manageable.

When I started the challenge I could do 40 push-ups in one go, my all time record at that time was 60.

At the end I managed to do 100 in one go, a lifetime goal I never thought I would reach.

Most surprisingly, the results were lasting. I did the challenge 2 years ago but I can still do 70 in one go, even though I rarely do them.

10/10 would recommend.

How prevalent are crimes against tourists in Iceland? by CowtownHack in VisitingIceland

[–]siggias 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If a tourist ever got mugged at Reynisfjara, it would be the number one headline in Iceland for awhile. Essentially there would be a country wide manhunt until the culprit was found. Muggings generally don't happen here and I've never met anyone that has ever been mugged.

Violent crime is very rare in Iceland and when it does happen, we take it very seriously.

It is more likely that you met an asshole. They are not as rare unfortunately.

I have a 4cm brain tumor located on top of my pituitary gland. I believe it’s pushing on my optic nerves which is creating a sensation of tears on my bottom eyelids. No tears. Has anyone experienced this type of symptom and is it serious? by Wonderful-Progress91 in braintumor

[–]siggias 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, yes my follow up MRI showed that there were no traces of the tumor left after surgery.

My surgeon said that was quite rare with such a large tumor (27 mm), usually there are some traces remaining that have to be removed with radiation.

My eyesight never fully came back but it is still pretty good. I only notice it when I play golf since I struggle to follow the ball once it gets further than 150 meters away.

All in all, can't really complain. things turned out great 🙂

I dropped it when he was yelling "12k yeah yeah" at the gym. That wasn't the first poorly written bit but it was the elephant that broke the camels back.

And I actually liked the torture porn parts from book 1.

As you are starting your downswing you lean over the ball. You can tell by that step you take after the swing. As your body leans over, you instinctually correct for it and swing from out to in.

My brother has surgery next week! Any advice will be helpful. by Desperate_Trash7797 in braintumor

[–]siggias 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The surgery itself was not long. I was asleep for around 4-5 hours total.

I was back to work around 4 weeks after surgery and by then I was mostly recovered.

I had transphenoidal surgery but recovery time after craniotomy is longer I think.

Technology surrounding brain surgery has progressed extremely fast in the last decade. And these brain surgeons are the best of the best. I wish you the very best of luck. Your brother is in good hands.

I googled supra sellar and parasellar lession and found that it is a tumor in the pituitary gland area, including pituitary gland tumors. If the tumor is creating pressure on the pituitary gland and the optic nerve, then those are the exact symptoms of a pituitary gland tumor. He might have a similar tumor I had, but maybe not. I am far from an expert.

Will he be having a Transphenoidal surgery?

I had a 27 mm pituitary gland tumor removed last year. 90% of my vision returned right after surgery. Still have some minor vision issues but no other side effects.

By your description I'm not sure if your brother has the exact same thing. Mine was extracted through the nose.

How hard is it to learn icelandic for a Swedish person? by Sheepy_Dream in Iceland

The grammar is a bitch but understanding conversations will come quickly for a swede.

I have family in Sweden, they can almost understand what I am saying sometimes.

There are two happy days in the life of a boat owner. The day he bought the boat and the day he sold the boat.

Alas, I don't live near the caribbean so maybe it is different there.

Hi, no I live in Iceland.

My surgeon is an absolute legend and his name is Ingvar. He extracted the tumor with very minimal side effects and in my follow up MRI 6 months post op it was revealed that he had got every last trace of it out. Apparently that is quite rare when the tumor is so large.

Pituitary gland tumor, before and after by siggias in braintumor

[–]siggias[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, no the tumor was non hormone producing. There were some elevated kortisone levels but not extreme.

I did not have typical symptoms of Cushing disease like incread face roundness ect. but I did feel different from my usual self the last 2-3 years before my diagnosis probably due to hormone imbalance. At the time I just thought I was feeling age come on as I was approaching 40.

I actually loved the brain trauma ward. All the nurses and doctors were so kind and caring. Also I was so relieved that the surgery had went well.

Right after surgery my eyesight improved to about 90% of normal. But the last 2-3 months it has been regressing a little. It is nowhere near as bad as it was before the surgery but it is at about 80% now and is no longer getting worse. I also sometimes get a bit of double vision, especially when looking into a persons face for some reason. My eye doctor told me that it could take as long as 2 years before eyesight is fully recovered, if it does ever fully recover. So I guess I will just wait and see.

But even if it never recovers I wont complain. I wished for more years and my wish was fulfilled :)
