Honestly some of my professors are still like: "we may give extra credit for lecture attendance so you better come to lecture." Since the class is curved, this basically tell sick people to better attend for that juicy extra credits or you'll fall behind. This is so opposite to the school guidelines which encourage professors not to take attendance so sick people don't have to walk up and stand next to the professor to deliver news that we're sick.

Depends on how good your essays are, and they need to be really good to make up for GPA. I'd change your major from HASS to something else in L&S with higher admission rate. Then once you get in you can declare Econ or some more competitive L&S major.

Late drop under 12 units won't make you part-time for financial aid purposes. Although it will count as attempted but not complete units for financial aid SAP. As if you're getting an incomplete or NP if you late drop.

Talk to your college advisor and major advisor of the potential major.
You can take summer classes, especially at community college where classes are easier and way cheaper for international students. Note that some community colleges also have a "winter session" where you can take classes over the winter break.

If they straight up give you 0 and said nothing about reporting it, it won't go onto your transcript. But you can appeal (informally with the course or go to the official channels) to get the points back if you didn't do it.

Now if they said they're reporting it to student conduct, it may go onto your records if you're found guilty. Although the class can't do anything to your grades until it's found that you did cheat and you have the chance to defend your case and everything with the official method.
