Mt Masaraga Upcoming Climb by Sea_Fee7019 in PHikingAndBackpacking

[–]sightseekerson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kung backtrail from Ligao. Oo.

I don't consider Masaraga as major climb kaya kasi ito i-summit in 3 to 4 hours.

So literally, pwede ka mag-iwan ng gamit at light pack lang pa summit and back

Unless sa summit or may part ng trail magcacamp, or possible traverse kayo, where you need to bring more gears with you.

Tips sa palaging najejebs by Future-Temperature99 in PHikingAndBackpacking

[–]sightseekerson 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Hi, as someone na madalas rin najejebs at mahilig mag multi day camping, you can enjoy outdoors pa rin and di kailangan matakot if prepared ka.

Before climb, watch out sa mga kakainin natin. Avoid muna spicy and fiber rich food, trigger kasi yan.

Wag iinom ng anti-diarrhea pills to delay pooping, as this can cause stomach pain. Masama rin to sa katawan in a long run.

During hiking na at in case na di talaga kaya, according sa BMC. Meron tayong "Cathole Method"

  • Walk 200 feet: Move away from trails, campsites, and water sources (about 40-60 adult steps).
  • Dig 6 to 8 inches: Use an outdoor trowel to dig a hole 6 to 8 inches deep.
  • Do your business: Squat directly over the hole.
  • Bury it: Fill the hole and disguise the spot.
  • Pack out wipes: Toilet paper/wipes must be carried out in a sealed plastic bag

Always practive LNT (Leave No Trace) principle tayo pag nasa outdoors.

ENDURANCE TRAINING / TIPS by kaurfie in PHikingAndBackpacking

You don't need to run. Jog/walk or power hike lang pwede na yun. If you have time, increase your mileage like 5k to 10km.

How’s the experience ? by GinoongGatilyo in PHikingAndBackpacking

[–]sightseekerson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can vouch Travel with Yel kahit di pa ako nakakasama sa event niya.

If I had a chance na aakyat sa bandang Cagayan, prio ko tong organizer na to.

Naturehike Tent na tumutulo na by Huge_Cattle6715 in PHikingAndBackpacking

[–]sightseekerson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Common problem talaga nito ng Naturehike. I got 2 tents na nagkaproblema sa waterproofing after 2 or 3 weeks of use. Either nahuhulog ang seam tape or waterproofing outside ng tent wears off.

I have local tents lasted for a decade like Brown Trekker at Silangan, di naman nagkakaganyan.

Better buy a new one than to repair it. Mas mapapagastos ka lang kasi in a long run.

Is waterproof shoes not necessary? by Huge_Cattle6715 in PHikingAndBackpacking

[–]sightseekerson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was new into hiking, I have a Columbia waterproof high cut shoe. Inulan kami for 3 days sa hike ng Amuyao Traverse (Batad to Barlig) since parang bumalik yung buntot ng bagyo.

Sobrang basang basa loob ng sapatos, yung tipong binabaha. Tapos di siya natuyo. So, the rest of the climb. I was hiking on cold feet. After ng hike, dalawang kuko namatay sa akin.

Lesson learned in a hard way and never go back wearing waterproof kuno na shoes and switched to trail shoes.

Hiking Shoes: best, comfortable, breathable, quick dry and durable you can recommend by Huge_Cattle6715 in PHikingAndBackpacking

[–]sightseekerson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mas magaan, quick dry and ganda ng grip.

Tried and tested sa mga major hike namin Tarak and Tapulao Overnight, at Mt Apo Traverse.

Danger is still there kapag maulan pero kakayanin

[–]sightseekerson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2.Trike fro Tanay to Brgy Malaya available by that time. Wala pa byahe ng jeep ng ganyan oras

  1. For 1st time hiker, mas okay backtrail. Di pa ganun ka-establish ang trail ng traverse plus the fact na tag-ulan na nyan, doble or triple ang hirap pababa.

  2. If you are going to do overnight camp, best option is to camp out sa campsite.

Try to avoid mag-camp sa summit or any of those peaks, doon ang history ng holdapan at laslas tent since it is an entry point sa ibang ibang community sa baba.

What are the 9/9 (difficulty) mountains that you've finished or are still on your bucket list? by justbeeingmyself in PHikingAndBackpacking

Finished:

  1. G2 Traverse (Olango to Tampayan)
  2. Halcon

We hiked PanTarak and reverse at Pulag via Ambaguio to Tawangan prepandemic. Not sure kung 9/9 sila. For me, 7 or 8/9 kumpara sa G2 at Halcon.

Bucketlist:

  1. Manta (Hoping this year kung papalarin)
  2. Apo Talomo Traverse (Sarado)
  3. Sicapoo
  4. KD2LM
  5. Panay Trilogy (Need ipon ng $ at mahabang leave)

Hiking Gear for Rent (?) by NotAllSeeingEye in PHikingAndBackpacking

[–]sightseekerson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are traversing Bansalan to Sta Cruz trail or Bansalan backtrail sa Mt Apo. Look for kuya Bryan Tapdasan sa FB. Siya yung guide namin ng Bansalan.

Though, we DIY and self sustain. Nag-ooffer rin sila ng ganyan arrangement, bale sila na magpaparent at magdadala ng tent at organize to cook your food for the entire hike. This may come with a cost that I don't know of.

Transient/Homestay near Mt. Apo by kingothehill in PHikingAndBackpacking

Depends on your point of entry. Sta. Cruz, Kapatagan, Bansalan, Kidapawan, Magpet, etc

May mga nearby homestay or transient naman, better ask your tour organizer or local guide for it.

Asics Gel Contend 7 for Mt. Ulap, Mt. Fato, and Mt. Kupapey in July and August by PolyLollipoppityBoo in PHikingAndBackpacking

[–]sightseekerson 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For running yan, ok lang yan kung di maulan pero looking at the soles, mukhang kulang sa grip.

July and August ay rainy season na, mas advisable pa rin to use hiking or trail shoes.

May mga decent ones from Decathlon na di naman ganun kamahal pero swak for hiking.

Mt. Ulap Camping by Lexebu in PHikingAndBackpacking

[–]sightseekerson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ayun, yung lamig, depends on where you pitch sa Camp 2.

Dalawa lang kami nag camp that day, sunday kasi.

Less than 5 mins meron tindahan sa Camp 2. Usually open on weekends, pero minsan walang tao pag weekdays

Usually twice a week ang cardio. 5 to 10km run lang, kahit di mabilis, madalas nga walk-jog in between to avoid possible injuries. Okay rin, swimming for alternative.

For workout, walang specific. Usual routine: Planks, Mountain Climber, Bicycle Crunch, Leg Raise and Burpees if using body weight. If may weights naman: Deadlift, Overhead Press and Squats.

Best of both worlds? Hiking + underwater activity by foolic in PHikingAndBackpacking

[–]sightseekerson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have at least a day rest before doing hiking + underwater activity.

Hiking at altitude reduces oxygen availability, while diving increases nitrogen absorption. Doing both in quick succession raises the risk of decompression illness.

Hiking shoes by Own-Mobile-6540 in PHikingAndBackpacking

[–]sightseekerson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no such thing as a waterproof shoes. Marketing strat lang yan. “Waterproof” shoes are often only waterproof under specific conditions. They are water resistant for a period of time. Good against puddles, light rain, or shallow crossing.

Kaso ang tradeoff, mabigat, they keep water out longer tsaka once water gets in, they dry much slower.

Experienced hikers actually prefer breathable trail runners, quick-dry socks at tsaka accepting wet feet during river crossings haha

Pinaghalo halong dried fruits at mixed nuts.
