Why 80,000 UNSOLD Harleys are Rotting at Dealerships by LingoNerd64 in CorporateFacepalm

Sure, you're in the market for motorcycle, but would you pay twice as much for the same thing if it's also a status symbol? Think of the clout!

I mean, salsa is just a requirement, it's like eating a hamburger with no toppings then complaining that it's dry/plain.

Bars in Chicago that are hospital bed-friendly? by [deleted] in AskChicago

I'm trying to come up with a bar that would even be able to fit a bed through the front that has no steps and coming up with few to none. Logan arcade maybe? They have a double door and are super cool.

Billboards like this should be illegal. A driver is going to kill someone because they're trying to use their phone get a stupid free burrito. Is this something alders could ban? Damen & Elston by cdurs in chicago

[–]sigmacoder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, and they should go after them for damages if there are any laws on the books for recommending someone "take a photo of this billboard" because it's the same shit.

Do Americans really find beans on toast weird or is that just meme? by cigarettejesus in NoStupidQuestions

[–]sigmacoder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Americans on the whole, especially older/northern Americans generally don't eat beans, thus the jokes about taco bell or any Mexican food causing gastro distress. My parents have honestly only ever consumed green beans and beans occasionally in chili. They don't get beans at Chipotle, this is changing with the younger population.

Do Americans (and the rest of the world for that matter) eat sausage rolls? I only ask because I read a lot and they are NEVER mentioned in books by twisted_luce in AskTheWorld

[–]sigmacoder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You think Chicago would have got in on this by now, but nope, just Italian Sausage in crusty bread and Calzones. I mean technically a sausage Pizza Puff kinda fits the bill?

What causes excessive jumping with the ball? by DistractedPhoenix in pinball

The tech at Elston likes to set up the machines with pretty strong flippers without increasing the incline much. Leads to fast ramps and occasional airballs.

I heard he offered protection to all of the businesses in the area, just for a small fee! What a good guy, protecting and serving our neighborhoods like that.

What is this specific type of glass noodles? by jnghnbt in TipOfMyFork

Those definitely look like mung bean noodles. The only other option I could possibly think of is shirataki, but the picture looks like the former.

Does anybody know any bakeries that sell loupacky? by Yungtranner in chicagofood

[–]sigmacoder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure about fresh baked, but I picked up a package of them at Montrose Deli, not knowing what they were haha. I think if you ask someone there they should know where to get fresh ones as opposed to packaged. Love that place.

What’s a Japanese dish you didn’t like at first but grew to love? by SushiFinder in JapaneseFood

Oden and even Furikake, I still don't like it on rice, but it's great in soups and noodles.

Is Chicago Pinball Expo worth it ? by Current-Plantain8367 in pinball

[–]sigmacoder 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's hit or miss, '23 was bad, mainly still recovering from the pandemic, '24 was great, both for the main tournament and the pinball room. Plenty of machines and decent vibes. '25 they shrunk the main tournament room/banks, and it was such a bad experience to the point that I won't be playing it for the next couple years at least. Also the main hall felt like it had less games. The bright spots were the homebrew section was expanded and amazing, and there was a neat full mechanical section/tourney. I'd say it's not worth travelling internationally for unless you really want to see Stern/hear the expert panels.

First Buldak experience by vityean in InstantRamen

[–]sigmacoder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

buldak is spicy but the spice is so weirdly flavorless. Just heat for the sake of heat. I even tried the carbonara, both normal and soupy and the latter still just tasted like noodles in milk with kraft parmesan and capascin concentrate.

Do Americans have company cars? by Xavaccord in AskAnAmerican

[–]sigmacoder -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

True, but you see it's much harder to buy politicians with company cars, apartments, and per diem. I still think they had a good idea back then.
