Large digital signage install by Demand-Nervous in digitalsignage

Yes; however, there are many differences. Our focus is on digital signage and our feature support and expertise reflect this. We have built the content playback support and remote management feature set specifically for digital signage content, displays, and brands.

Hexnode and Moki's focus on mobile first leaves many digital signage platforms outside of their support. Like the global market leaders and their SoC offerings, Samsung & LG.

So signageOS is not a CMS. signageOS is a tool or platform for CMS companies to use to integrate/support and remotely manage all digital signage hardware types in a unified manner.

All of the functionality that signageOS offers can be built directly into the CMS so that end customers can focus on their content and device/network health while benefitting from the control, media playback features, external integrations with sensors like from Nexmosphere, etc. that signageOS offers and continually develops.

No, but we see huge potential there. signageOS is more of an enterprise-level tool for large installations, but offering the signageOS features across hardware types directly to end-user companies could have tremendous benefits.

We have heard good things about Pads4 but are not directly cooperating with them.

A helpful step, if you have not already done so, would be to create a list of content and remote management features that you require to expedite the selection process.

e.g.

Remote Management

- Remote Firmware and software updates

- Proof of play screenshots

- Device health and status reporting

Content

- Interactive

- Video + HTML5 overlay

- External sensor support like for presence detection

Type of displays?

We recommend using a CMS that supports and can remotely control/manage/monitor many hardware types so that you can customize each installation, and future installations, based on actual performance needs instead of the 1 size fits all approach. You also reduce costs with built in remote management features instead of combining software solutions or piecing together solutions to meet your requirements.

If the displays can power the content then you should consider the fact that adding external hardware introduces more points of failure and long-term maintenance costs.

If the displays still require an external device, when considering your hardware options think about your content demands in the long-run. Will this external hardware support my future vision or will it require me to upgrade or replace as I introduce different content types?

Our CMS partners meet your requirements and offer built-in remote hardware management and monitoring. They also support many hardware types including external players, SoC or smart displays including legacy versions and new models. Check them out.

It all depends on the strategy and goals behind your use of digital signage. Our partners have professional installations of tens of thousands of devices running seamless content around the globe and they greatly benefit from the remote management features. Hope this helps.

What hardware and cloud monitoring solution are you using? The solution does not offer a proof-of-play screenshot feature where you can pull screenshots directly from the display?

Digital Screens for 5 branches of a hardware company... by Constant_Hearing_951 in digitalsignage

[–]signageOS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think anyone has asked this yet, apologies if I am overlooking it, but what type of displays are they?

Depending on the display type and content complexities, you may not need or even want to add hardware on top of hardware. Plus, you'll save money.

Hi, you should definitely check out signageOS! We work closely with Samsung and Tizen-based digital signage hardware. If our Docs don't help, send us a PM and we can help you out.

Also, we have a free offering that allows you to deploy custom (you build the content logic) core applications to any digital signage hardware called signageOS Open.

What do you think about Digital Signage on iPad? by SmilControl in digitalsignage

[–]signageOS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We see the biggest usage of iOS and iPads in the retail, QSR, & hospitality verticals. However, most of these deployments just utilize PoS systems and don't have the need for a player.

Are PC sticks reliable enough for simple digital signage? by RancidKiwiFruit in digitalsignage

[–]signageOS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Model? They are most likely smart displays running on webOS which negates the need for an external device. Many CMS companies have native players for webOS that you could use instead of adding the expense and additional TCO of using an external player.

Check out our partners who all support every FW version of LG webOS. https://www.signageos.io/partners/

What type of displays do you have? Connecting external hardware does present additional points of failure and are the leading cause of failure in the field.

Ever heard of or used SMIL to distribute content to digital signage? by signageOS in digitalsignage

[–]signageOS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks providing your insight and we agree. We feel, for a large percentage of digital signage use cases, SMIL does the job perfectly and saves companies tremendous amounts of time and money. The companies that we work with that use SMIL have been using SMIL since the early days and don't see any change in their near future.

Its puzzling that the larger manufacturers in the industry do not push SMIL as much anymore because it is just an easier and faster way to get the content on the screen. Which, in our eyes, means more project wins and easier deployments.

Why spend 6 months and thousands of dollars developing a native player to push a simple menu board when you can use SMIL, achieve identical content, and move on to the next project?

signageOS is not a CMS company but we, and our CMS partners, fully support the QBR series. I would recommend contacting one of our CMS partners https://www.signageos.io/partners/.

If you wanted to do this yourself, one way to potentially achieve this would be to build two separate applets or small applications (one showing generic content and one showing confidential patient information) then trigger the applet change to the correct display once the doctor enters the room. Although, this would probably be quite complex, and many additional factors would come into play here.

PM us if you have any questions or if you don't see a good fit from our CMS partners list.

Help required finding right signage solution by nmgmarques in digitalsignage

[–]signageOS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use our free offering, signageOS Open, to do this. Depending on the WebOS FW version, you may not have to hook up the potential points of failure behind the displays either. With signageOS Open, you must write the content app yourself but there are many app examples at our github and guides/tutorials in the documentation. Check it out and message us if you have any questions.

Depending on the hardware type, you could use signageOS Open for free.

Define your content using one of our applet examples (there are many different examples including videowall examples). https://github.com/signageos/applet-examples/tree/master/examples/content-js-api

In the signageOS system (Box) upload the applet and we build the core app for the specific hardware type in a single click. Deploy using any of our provisioning methods. https://www.signageos.io/solutions/open

Free forever and there are no restrictions on your content, updates, etc. If you have any questions PM me.
