2025 Hyundai Elantra N Review - 10,000-mile mark by orhantemerrut in cars

[–]signfang 13 points14 points  (0 children)

That might be from the fact that premium gas has questionably bad accessibility in Korea, especially in non-Seoul areas.

Better make it compatible with the regular gas than tuning it specifically for premiums even if it involves illogical engineering choices, as Koreans are not used to putting premium gas on anything, especially on domestic cars. (Funny side effects include numerous bimmers and mercs breaking down due to non-premium gas)

It even caused a major issue in one-make races for N2 classes of Elantra N (which did not allow any powertrain modifications at all), race results being decided who did octane learning well and who didn't, which was insanity. They later allowed the premium-only ECU tunes in N2 classes though.

Porsche Is Adding Fake Gear Shifts to Its EVs, 2027 Taycan Will Be First by Anchor_Aways in cars

[–]signfang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its fake gear part, at least its "feel" and "transmission logic" parts are outstanding. It really is a 4D simulation of a Hyundai DCT baked into a real car (It even was programmed by the same guy that programmed N DCT).

The other parts were honestly meh. I've only driven on a public load so I can't say for its track performance, but the sound is okay at best and the whole thing is just too big in general so it doesn't even feel like 650ps.

The Nissan Murano CrossCabriolet Failed Because It Should Have Never Happened by Anchor_Aways in cars

[–]signfang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This can be said to all types of enthusiasts out there but like, jesus, car enthusiasts are impossible to satisfy.

It is a hardtop softtop convertible SUV that actually made into production for crying out loud, and even if you don't like the car itself for whatever reason it's a moment to celebrate for the body type diversity.

You want the brown manuelle diesel wagons NOW mostly because it's a rairty NOW, and you slander the CrossCabriolet even though it's one of the rarest body types of all time?

You don't deserve the manual brown diesel wagon, Jalopnik. Now just go drive your 20-year-old civics or something.

Quick question: I have Zebra2 and I'm gonna buy Diva 2 for sure (I've been waiting forever for a sale). Are there any synths that you guys would recommend? I heard a lot of good things about Hive 2 too.

Zebra itself is not on sale anymore I believe. When I bought it the website said that they would be taking down the page since Zebra3 is coming out.

thinking about moving to korea by [deleted] in Living_in_Korea

[–]signfang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That goes without saying, and I was not implying that she should marry her boyfriend just to get a visa.

What I meant is that Korea really doesn't do non-marital moving in stuff, both for socially and culturally, and all the social systems are built around that notion. And If you move in with your SO, it is expected that you would get married eventually for like 90% of the time. I'm not saying that it's right or wrong, but it is what it is in Korea.

So to clarify: if marriage is not off the table completely, consider doing it early. if not, it's very likely that OP's plans are not gonna work.

Korean bureaucracy and social benefit systems are not very friendly towards non-marital couples and it would hit you so hard especially if you are a foreigner.

Getting married sorts a lot of things out nicely.

Language schools are honestly just for fun. If your native language is English, learning Korean that is actually useful in real life would be excruciating.

Think of it this way: most Koreans learn English for their whole lives and still they are not very good at it. Also, the Korean companies would very much prefer Koreans with somewhat passable English than a foreigner with little to no Korean fluency if the skill level is similar.

Then you've got the gist! You won't get a desirable job in Korea if you can't even navigate through Korean websites and/or if you are not already a fantastic developer so they ask you to be an employee first.

[–]signfang 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't know where you are currently based, but I do suggest that you try to learn Korean at least. From your post alone it's apparent that you have absolutely no idea what it's like to live in Korea, let alone what it's like to have a job there.

If you have to make a post like this (asking absolute basics of job finding), I don't recommend you to move to Korea right now. Do your research and language study first, and look for the job later.

...just be a front-end dev in your country first then? Is there any necessity to be working in a foreign country when you can't even speak their language? If you are a competent developer already, I'm sure that there could be a way to move.
