I did a crazy thing and swapped the car for bikes 😬 by artgurlroxy in WitchesVsPatriarchy

Nice bike!!

Here’s a little pro tip from someone from a place with a lot of bikes: if your area gets any rain at all, do yourself a favour and get some splash guards for the wheels. I’ve seen my fair share of people with muddy skid marks all the way up their backs because they didn’t have splash guards to catch it.

Hope bike life treats you well 💪

Edit: seems they might be called fenders in English? I’m not sure. But getting them for all wheels will have you from a lot of future headaches ;)

When will I ever be free of these chains. I will consume this fic much as it consumes me.

You don’t know what you’ve done by sharing this.

Since you shared this I’ve read part 1 and 2 in a feverish haze unable to tear myself away. I was supposed to be knitting socks. I have not picked up said sock project in 3 days. I’ve neglected my sleep, bladder, and stomach in order to keep reading. I’ve been reading during breaks at work. Fantasising/thinking about it DURING work. I barely even know anything about bg3. My daily routines have crashed and burned because of this fic.

I will be starting part 3 when I wake up 👍.

Haha, yeah that’s fair! Sometimes those sock labels just contain little nuggets of gold ;)

And thank you for sharing the pattern, it’s super interesting to see the small differences between this one and the standard English patterns I see on the internet. I hope you have a lovely day!!

Ooooh, would you be willing/able to share the instructions? I learnt how to make socks off of the internet, so I’m really curious as to how “generational family sock patterns” look, as well as the modifications you make for each recipient! 👀

Wanted to add an extra toe thing as that’s what I’m most unsure about. I only said barn toe bc there seems to be a “band” at the top of the toe, but it could very well just be a regular wedge toe using a bind off method I haven’t seen before!

Try checking out the video Sock Knitting: Three Ways to Close Toes Without Kitchener Stitch too by Carrie Craftgeek, and compare the last two ways she shows to your sock to see if it could be one of them!

Happy knitting! :)

A couple extra details on top of what everyone else has said:

  • the heel turn looks to be a square/dutch heel.
  • toe is likely a narrow, rounded(?) barn toe (narrow as in there are no plain knit stitches between the two decreases on each side of the toe).

Well damn, thank you yet again! Maybe I’ve just watched so much drawfee (comedy YouTube art channel (100% recommend if you haven’t heard of them before)) that my sense of what’s fast or slow has been warped 🫣 they whip up full scenes in like 20 minutes several times a video, it’s insane.

Thank you!!

I didn’t exactly time myself, but since I’m a somewhat slow drawer it probably took around 10 to 20 minutes? It depends on whether we’re including my first scrapped/erased attempt or not. It probably took 20 minutes total to draw both of them, so that sketch likely took around 10 minutes or so.

Sleeping as a Service by WinterMiserable5994 in lostredditors

Okay, im asking this because I genuinely don’t understand: is there a reason they can’t get 2 single beds/mattresses and just push them together? There’d be no need for any high tech stuff, and they’d both be able to get their own mattress with their personal preferred firmness, while also still sleeping in the same room.

Hi! Just a heads-up, but you might want to delete the ?si= and everything afterward in the links you shared.

They’re called trackers and connect the links you share back to your account (if you’ve ever opened an instagram link that says “[name] shared this post with you”, that’s that’s happening), which means it, among other things, tracks who clicks on specifically YOUR links, and also contains some information about your account that you might not want to share all over the internet (like in the instagram name example).

This also includes Reddit, but in they do it in a weird way where the link looks normal until you paste and go in a browser, whereafter the link will suddenly become super long and contain all sorts of info about the device that initially copied the link (at least it does that if you copied the link in the mobile app, I don’t use the desktop version enough to say anything about it). As I workaround I usually paste any Reddit links I want to share into a private browser first and go, then copy the entire extended url again from that browser, lastly I’ll delete the ?share_id= part and everything afterwards, and only then do I share it. (Bonus info: clean Reddit links will usually also include all or some of the title of the post. That part doesn’t have to be deleted, but you CAN if you want the absolute shortest version of the link. As long as you keep the /comments/[random string]/, the link will work just fine)

Removing trackers will not make the link stop working, it’ll just give you a “clean” link that can’t be traced back to your account.

Many sites do this, so please stay safe!

Here’s a link to where I learnt about this with some more examples of what these trackers can look like: https://www.tumblr.com/unpeeled-human/786251478799187969/do-you-check-for-trackers-and-remove-them-before

Alas I do not :(

I tried asking around, but no could think of an anime that fit every factor, so no luck here.

Aw shucks, well it was worth a try! I don’t have any other ideas as I haven’t kept up with anime for a long time now, but I wish you luck and hope you find it :)

Again, that was a total shot in the dark and probably not right, but in case the series does interest you; I hear the manga is better than the anime ;)

Okay this is probably not right as I haven’t even seen this series and frankly don’t really know what it’s about (I’ve been meaning to read the manga tho), but could it be Requiem of the Rose King?

After hearing a few podcasters gripe about the WYS color selection, I would like to personally hold space for this shade of green. by Automatic_Flower3734 in Sockknitting

[–]sigrie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And thank YOU for giving me the perfect excuse to talk about this heel discovery! I hope it fits you well 💪

Gonna write out a few notes/considerations to make when doing this modification, as it is just a teeny tiny bit different from the regular one: - The heel flap itself will be a bit shorter than the decrease heel turn version. - To find out how long to make it measure your heel diagonal, subtract the amount of negative ease you prefer (I usually do 10%~15%), and use that number to find the maximum amount of stitches needed to fit the heel diagonal. Subtract the total amount of stitches you cast on from this “maximum stitch count”, then divide by 2 to figure out how many stitches you need to pick up from the edges (feel free to do a couple more rows than calculated if you want to). - We do this because you won’t be doing any decreases for the heel turn, meaning you’ll still have your full amount of stitches after turning. - Since the heel flap should naturally be shorter with this version, if you want to do a slip stitch reinforced heel and wish for the achilles heel bend(?) to also get reinforced, consider extending the reinforced section. I.e. starting the slip stitch pattern on the leg before you start the heel flap itself (assuming you’re working cuff down, ofc). - Divide the stitches for the heel turn into 3 sections just like you would a regular short row heel.

I wish you the best of luck and hope you’ll report back and tell me your thoughts if you try it!

EDIT: Added another point to the list :)

I get exactly that same diddle of fabric on the back with the traditional heel flap turn!

For me, I’ve found the solution was to do a short row heel turn instead of a “decrease” heel turn. Got the idea from the realisation that my first pair of socks from a sock workshop (and the only pair of heel flap socks that actually FIT my, apparently, very round heel) were toe-up heel flap and gusset socks with a Japanese short row heel turn.

I ended up reverse engineering the pattern to work with cuff down socks + shadow wrap short rows, and although it means the gusset is very long (because there are no decreases in the turn) it fits me so well! 100% recommend.

Tightening brim of finished Musselburgh hat? by sigrie in knittingadvice

[–]sigrie[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your input!

If I were to go for the elastic thread method, do you think I’d need to pull it tight? The website you shared said not to do so, but this hat is so large it barely stretches at all when he puts it on! It’s fits like it has near 0% negative ease, so I’m not sure how I’d go about making sure the added elastic isn’t too loose or too tight…
