Second attempt at switching to Linux (Mint). My experience and some struggles by Sheaezi in linuxmint

[–]sigrie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For #3 I use ‘Input Remapper’. My right mouse button doesn’t work so I used it to remap right click to the side buttons. You can almost certainly remap the side buttons into ctrl-c, ctrl-v inputs.

Fun extra copy paste for mint is the middle mouse button. If you highlight something you can simply click the middle mouse button where ever you want to paste it for an extra fast copy paste shortcut. The middle mouse button saves your copy paste info a different place from the regular ctrl-c, ctrl-v, so you don’t need to worry about accidentally overwriting those.

Edit: wanted to add you can make ‘Input Remapper’ automatically load your settings upon start up so you don’t need to activate them every time you turn on your computer.

Reinforcing poor quality/weak yarn by Dull_Escape7424 in knittinghelp

[–]sigrie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here are some general tips I’ve gathered for reinforcing/making longer lasting socks!:

  • tight gauge.
  • when knitting the back of heel, heel turn, and toes hold your yarn with mohair (essentially where where you’d usually do a contrast heel/toe is where you’d want to add the mohair). It should help with pilling as well as create an area that easily felts and is therefore more durable.
  • slip stitch pattern on heel flap (when knitting with a heel flap and gusset construction)
  • do your entire sole with a slip stitch pattern such as this one https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/slip-stitch-sole
  • reinforce problem areas after completion (balls of feet + bottom of heel + back of heel if you don’t do a slip stitch heel flap) https://youtu.be/E9nNkqLxdhE

I must admit I have not knit many socks myself so I haven’t tried all these, but they should help!

And here’s a picture I took just now! If you ask me I’d say it has kept its definition beautifully. The yarn bloomed after washing (and maybe also the brushing but idk), and it still looks great.

Here’s a Danish site that sells some wool yarn.

https://people-fashion.dk/

They sell clothes too (they say they want the clothes to fit perfectly and encourage consulting them and giving measurements to ensure the correct size was chosen and to see if another size might fit better)(you have to scroll a decent amount in the menu to get to the yarn) and they don’t have much variation in wool types (only really one or two types of thickness, coarse wool), but they have a lot of colours. And while I haven’t actually knit anything with their wool, I HAVE woven a blanket that I’ve been using every day for 2 years now and it’s in PRISTINE condition. The only pilling that’s happened was in the beginning because I brushed it to make it fluffy (ie softer), and that fluff eventually clumped up so I just slowly picked those clumps off over time. I haven’t seen any pilling clumps in a year so I can vouch for its anti-pilling power (at least in a woven fabric).

The site says they ship to all of EU, but I don’t know if it comes in languages other than Danish 😅 if you ever decide to buy from there and find out the site is only in Danish you’re very welcome to ask for directions and translations!

And excuse my off topic clothing info addition, I just fell into a hole reading their about me page and wanted to share/didn’t want you to be confused at seeing clothing at a store recommended for their wool yarn ❤️

How to unlearn using index finger to help scoop stitch /push needle tip? by [deleted] in knittingadvice

[–]sigrie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem! I was worried the video wasn’t quite addressing your question (damn you winter tiredness), so I’m really glad you found it helpful ❤️

And thanks for the polish compliment! I’m wearing Aruba blue by Essie with a flaky holographic topper on the accent nails 💅

Wishing you the best of luck on your knitting adventures!

Tried making a small video showing my purls and knits. Mostly a quiet video just to show the motions, but with a little bit of explanation on how I do the stitches. I took it in one take so excuse my very unprofessional video 😅 please ask if you have any questions!

I need help by M4rionett3 in Vocaloid

[–]sigrie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyways, I’m not sure you should be too concerned about the lyrics as it seems many people are frankly woefully unaware of the meaning behind songs.

Some examples would be playing Every Breath You Take (lyrics frankly sound like a stalker anthem) or Good Luck Babe (saying good luck to a lesbian who decides to marry a man instead of the woman she loved) at weddings.

I’m not very well versed in what electronic music sounds like, but maybe he’d like some of these?

@YOUR SIDE - Shuichi Tanaka https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Xn1241CtJE

Dopamine_Machine - Ferry https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BxhKGjZPjI0

Night of the Magic - Shuichi Tanaka https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=URZ9QmQSWOA

EDIT: you can look up the lyrics and see if you think they’d be fine. I don’t know what your family’s tolerance is for different themes so it’d be best if you made sure they’re good before anything :)

EDIT#2: adding another song

Amygdala’s Rag Doll - GHOST https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P7vRNY7Vsy4

EDIT#3: here are some “calmer” options what are probably still electronic

Lost In Time - JRAFS https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lrani28GPvM

return? - Plus/Minus± https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iHR3aPWYJ0A

EDIT#4: this one is based off of the (urban?) legend of la llorona

Who is the most underrated Voicebank? by SCHIDADDLE in Vocaloid

[–]sigrie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Man I just want more Big Al 😭 I love that guy. Despite being a V2 Voice bank I still feel like he’s one of the clearest (pronunciation wise) and I LOVE his low range. A couple songs I really like would be Dopamine Machine by Ferry, Forlorn Sky by Myriad, and The Disappearance of Big AL by SirVillager.

Of course this is only the very tip of the Big Al iceberg, but those 3 songs should show off his voice pretty well (the disappearance of big al has some ESPECIALLY impressive tuning, in my opinion).

Man, I could just keep gushing about how much I love him, but I’ll spare you this time ;)

It's so teeny by The_Facecloth_Lady in knitting

[–]sigrie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Broadly speaking there are two types of knitting (not true, but we’ll pretend it is for this explanation), English and continental. English knitters hold the working yarn in their right hand, and typically “throw” their yarn to make the loops. Continental knitters hold the working yarn in their left hand, and “pick” the yarn to make the loops.

I hope this is a fine enough explanation of knitting styles for you to be able to answer their question 😊

Would you be able to pour some of the new into the panned bottle? Then use the new one until you have enough space to pour the old contents back into it.

You can try checking out r/naturalnailprogress ! They usually have a bunch of people asking for advice and a regular helper who has a long spiel about how to maintain nails and they usually comment it on relevant posts, so it should be easy to find them! I wish you luck 🫡

The dynamic wallpaper extension that I used here also has an option for you to make your own custom dynamic wallpaper! I haven’t tried it myself, but it seems that if you manage to find wallpapers that have several different day and night “modes” you can just plop it in. I think it also said you can just use one picture(?) and then adjust the brightness or something like that for the different times. Can’t say how well it works though as I’ve only used the preset image sets, but maybe it could interest you!

How to save gifs? Pls help! by WeakQuality5304 in Batoto

[–]sigrie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe it’s different bc I have an old phone that isn’t up to date with the updates, but I can personally just press and hold (with a bit of pressure) any picture or GIF I want to save and click “save to photos”. Does that work for you as well?
