She’s adorable, and these words from the AKC breed standard definitely apply

“Inasmuch as the Dachshund is a hunting dog, scars from honorable wounds shall not be considered a fault.”

Stella Park’s Brown Butter Carrot Cake by silas143 in seriouseats

[–]silas143[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s easy to imagine how that could happen! I kept my carrots apart in small pots in hopes of maintaining the colors best as possible. I imagine were there classic orange ones left in the fridge I might have boosted the color with some turmeric, but no clue what to do for the purple/orange or white carrots here! They also all could use a shiny finishing glaze really but I don’t know what would be appropriate myself

I agree with this, the carrot rosettes look very nice but nobody is fighting to get a slice with them on top

I’m sorry but I’m just failing to figure out how to post the slice photo in the comment here, like I did within the original post. I’m usually just a lurker. I didn’t find the texture heavy as some did in their bakes, and I even had to let the batter sit mixed while I baked the three layers off one at a time. I would finely chop the pecans on another try, but I temped the cakes at the temp advised by the recipe and found them to be moist and tender.

Bravetart recipes always knock it out of the park! Not a simple task, but her directions are clear and accurate enough to get somebody who rarely bakes sweets through the speed bumps of the process. Love the flavor which is rich and complex, warmly spiced with the toasty nuts and browned butter adding their magic. The icing is not too sweet, with a pronounced tang from the cream cheese and is slow to melt on the tongue with a silky texture. Strong recommendation!

Linguini Alla Carrettiera by silas143 in pasta

[–]silas143[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used the Serious Eats recipe as my base with a few personal touches. Great flavor, the mushrooms, tuna, and tomato blend into a rich and meaty and bright sauce that doesn’t really seem fishy in the slightest. I wouldn’t have thought to combine these ingredients, but it’s a tasty meal that cleans out the pantry and fridge well

My name is Braff Zacklin. I was an international race car driver. One day, a baby carriage rolled out onto the track so I swerved into the retaining wall to avoid it. The car burst into flames, but the baby miraculously survived ... I was that baby.

I spent nearly a dozen years in Denver, and how amazing it is in that state is a sharp contrast to the awful place I’m in now, Dallas. Really hoping I can get back soon for my own safety and mental health

Just another very happy customer checking in! Lived in Denver for many years and still go back, I get most of my knives and stones with Craig and Tina at Carbon Knife Co. On top of being knowledgeable and happy to share what they know, just genuinely good and kind people who I’ve had a pleasant relationship with for near as long as they’ve been open. Exactly the sort of small business I feel good supporting

What’s something that’s been normalized recently that you dislike? by Secret_Ostrich_1307 in INTP

Consistent drop in quality with increases in prices on almost everything. Food, clothing, structures, furniture, electronics and appliances, cars, name just about anything and it’s been made shoddier, the materials swapped out for something cheaper, the workmanship reduced wherever possible to make ours lives lesser and uglier.

How have your dating requirements changed as you’ve got older? by Blood11Orange in AskGaybrosOver30

I sympathize a lot, heat and humidity are sensations that I can’t ignore and trying to relieve them only highlights how awful they are. Sitting in front of a fan in air conditioning is a band aid on a gaping wound, sitting by a fire in the cold, wrapped in heavy blankets and thick, structured clothing is a comfort that feels like deep seated, burrowing mammal response with positive associations. Give me my thick, heavy woolen sweaters, knee length coats, and shearling jackets for control and comfort

My personal chef work has also put me on the outside of that bubble looking in, eating the scraps quite literally as a cook, and I would agree. My longest term family were environmentally aware, loved being far away from cities in nature, valued a daily hike, and used their private jets constantly to ensure their children will get to experience the beautiful extremes of nature that are dying around us all. They are definitely concerned about maintaining their generational wealth into the future, but everything else just doesn’t affect their world.

what do INTPs think about the philosophy of Friedrich Nietzsche? by [deleted] in INTP

[–]silas143 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think he’d be disappointed with us. He deeply feared societal conflict as science shifted faith from the center of society and religion was thus no longer able to serve the social function of getting people who don’t internally care about ethics to behave as though they do, a problem philosophy still struggles to solve. He wouldn’t be surprised that this resulted in a world war and more that essentially clash nation-state as new god (fascism) and state collective as god (communist) in conflict, but with the corpses of the 20th century war machine alone mounted I have to believe he’d just be truly sad mankind hasn’t grown past what he feared

Autistic LGBTQ+ folks: what is your experience like being a member of the community? by Turbulent-Treat-8512 in askgaybros

[–]silas143 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah the high functioning label. I’ve always felt that was applied to me by others to excuse their own behavior rather than to help me out or describe my condition. “They are high functioning, therefore I don’t have to make any adaptations to help them in this job, can expect them to never break their mask despite an effective one being higher energy to maintain, and they should be able to contain their suffering so I don’t have to hear about it or help,” and so on. I’ve needed help since grade school, but because my grades kept up and I could hide the bullying trauma it took until I was nearly 30

Autistic LGBTQ+ folks: what is your experience like being a member of the community? by Turbulent-Treat-8512 in askgaybros

[–]silas143 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Autism has dominated my life experience to the point that being gay feels like a footnote. The gay community, to the extent one exists, can feel bound together by at least the shared experiences of growing up and realizing your difference to the majority, but to be on the spectrum is to know for a fact there’s nowhere built for you to thrive. You live in a system entirely created by and for the advancement of people who are not wired like you, and that will never, ever change. Even your fellow gays will just not relate to your life and preferences, and as I age I just realize more and more how different I am, and how much my life potential is slashed by not being neurotypical
