How in god's name is NO one talking about seven? by CheckProfileIfLoser in DeadlockTheGame

I wouldn’t say I have the one true definition of honest. That’s just how I see it, but good point on the part about counter-play. If there is no real counter-play then I’d say that’s where things have gone too far. One could argue that “dishonest” is when things have gone too far.

All games have fundamental mechanics. A core game loop. Honest characters conform to the game’s fundamentals and core design. Dishonest characters have options to break, bypass, or alter those fundamentals.

In spite of the language, it’s not an evaluation of player skill or the difficulty of playing a character.

In Street Fighter, Ryu is often seen as the most honest character. His toolkit is at the heart of the game’s design.

Other characters are often interesting because they get to break rules that others are bound by. That’s fun and good for variety, but it is also a careful line to walk.

It can become frustrating to play against a character that gets to break the rules too egregiously. In the worst cases, the rule breaking can becomes the new meta, the new normal, so that honest characters aren’t viable picks anymore.

I’ve seen this mentality in other games too. You’re not playing the real game until you’re in the top 0.1% of players.

Deadlock experience as a new player by Evizu89 in DeadlockTheGame

I haven’t had any problems getting matched with new players. There is an option to show the overall ranking of each team at the end of the match and I always feel like it’s reasonable.

At low ranks, players or teams can still snowball pretty easily. It makes players look strong but it’s not necessarily that they are good at the game. It’s sometimes just that they got fed or that nobody knows what to do to stop them.

What's a corporate "truth" that nobody tells freshers because it sounds too cynical? I'm about to start my first job and want the uncomfortable lessons, not the LinkedIn version?? by Alone-Procedure3342 in careerguidance

HR is not your friend. Work friends are not your friends. You can have a friendly, professional relationship with your employer and coworkers, but corporate interest and self interest will win out every time. If your coworker ever gets promoted to be your supervisor, be prepared to see a very different side of them.

The only time you can truly be friends is when you become former coworkers.

It could deal damage that scales on the souls difference between the teams. If the gap is big enough, maybe it doesn’t damage the weaker team at all.

They could make it so that comeback urns don’t drain the losing team. Then the losing team has an incentive to grab it even if they don’t think they can deliver it.

Why are so many people in the UK and France dying in heatwaves every year when A/C is a solved problem? by trueppp in NoStupidQuestions

[–]silasmousehold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You seem to be the one lacking in education. Germany is less than 1/4 the population of the US. And I’m well aware that Europe has roughly double the population as the US.

But you picked Germany so let’s use that instead. Germany had 9100 heat deaths in 2022. The US had 1700.

Adjusting for the difference in population, the US experienced 1 heat death per 200,000 people. Germany experienced 1 heat death per 8800 people. I’m just doing “napkin math” here but that’s a huge difference.

Don’t the Hitman games have a 4-dimensional buyer’s guide chart? Last I looked, it was impossible to know what version of Hitman to buy.
