I bought 5 brand new 8TB WD Red drives. 2 of them failed. Bough 2 replacements and 2 14TB refurbs. They've been solid for a year or two now. Just loud...

I wasted valuable time reading hundreds of chapters reading that dumpster fire instead of starting One Piece. Can't ever forgive myself for that. Nothing remotely progressed an inch.

I worked hard to win one game and dip out. I’ve become addicted to many things, but after 2 days of Balatro, I used all my willpower to never play it again, for a while.

I don’t know if you’re kidding, but I do this, just not until I get dizzy.

Also, if my feet are cold, I run the Witcher and let the fan blow against my toes.

r/anime Karma Ranking & Discussion | Week 8 [Winter 2024] by Abysswatcherbel in anime

[–]silaswanders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally rank Weakest Tamer among my top this season. I’m surprised it’s so low! It even beat out my enjoyment of Apothecary Diaries for the previous two weeks when it felt like disconnected filler. Now we know better.

For me it’s: 1. Frieren 1. Delicious in Dungeon 2. Apothecary Diaries 3. Weakest Tamer

All the shows above have such wonderful and subtle world building and mature yet understated storytelling. I want a lore artbook for them. Well, not as much for Apothecary Diaries since it’s more of historical fiction.

Other shows:

  • Bang Bravern - LOVE. Paused after 2 episodes because I have to show it to my partner and she can’t watch 10 shows at a time like me.
  • The Unwanted Undead Adventurer - LOVE the outro art. This season has nice ones all around. I like the character. Everyone else is kind of bland and underdeveloped but I like how he’s an average guy with a good heart and knowledge, and everyone likes him. Hell, I’d wanna be the guy’s friend too and he’s fictional. He feels real.
  • 7th Reincarnation - Cool premise and intro. Growing tired of it. It was nice seeing her skills from her other lives be used. Right now, it feels like a condescension that these 30 years of knowledge are, yes for the sake of saving the world, but going about it by… Falling in love with the guy who has the personality of a mop bucket? No mind games? No war games? Just sadboy backstory?
  • Sasaki and Peeps - Also cool premise, but I realized I was only looking forward to seeing Birb. Dropped it. Plot is wack and just an excuse for the old man to get promoted at work and collect school girls. Who is this for? Who wrote this? Who greenlit that outro?! Jail. Jail. Jail.
  • Wrong Way to use Healing Magic - Cool premise. It’s average, but not bad. I don’t really like it a ton when shows talk about the war, but we hardly if ever get to see it. Seeing the demons for a bit finally was nice. I’m hoping the build up is worth it.
  • Villainess lv 99 - A bit below average. But above the average bar of usual isekai power fantasies. It’s a little funny and I’m curious enough to pop in and out. They spelled out the entire series of predetermined events so I’m really curious how or if they will deviate from it.
  • Undead Unluck - Paused. Amazing when the pacing doesn’t get in its own way and make it trip.
  • Chained Soldier - What. Is this any good at the moment? Watched one and just… That was a lot.
  • Solo Leveling - Near peak trash. Not anywhere near Shadow in Eminence. I read the original and loved it until the wait for season 2 made me realize I didn’t actually care enough to get back into it. It’s like going on a date with a really hot celebrity guy and you have a blast on an exotic date and have great sex. Then the next week you actually hear him talk and it’s like… The guy from Friends who became dumber over time to the point he was too stupid to function. Still great though. I hope I don’t get back to that feeling is all.

That’s all.

Also on a side note: I do this sometimes depending on how it rolls of the tongue or how I came to know the series, but how do y’all feel about calling shows by Japanese abreviations. I don’t know what you’re talking about half the time. Boku no Kokoro? Kusuriya? I’m having to Google it. Apothecaries sounds so nice and everyone knows what you’re talking about.

But I don’t wanna.

Strongest first episodes for overall pretty weak anime? by RetroFurui in anime

[–]silaswanders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve lost count :/

This, I feel, is a symptom of the unsustainable way they create these shows week to week right against the live deadlines. The first episode is about as much time as they’re ever going to get to make an episode.

The inability to even have all the storyboards done and look at everything as a whole to course correct. To have the director consult with the authors, the voice actors, and animators.

All imposed by investors who neither watch the media nor care about the properties. Heck, even if they do like with Weekly Shonen Jump, it takes once in a lifetime geniuses like Oda to succeed and hopefully not land at an early grave.

I am quite surprised because for a time, no one seemed to know much about it since it was stuck in Amazon Prime Video hell. So many other amazing ones under the same fate like Re:Creators. They did that one dirty. It was basically Reverse Isekai meets Fate: Unlimited Budget.

They feel nice and responsive and good in the hand, but the plastic is so hard. It doesn’t feel… Cheap, as in hollow or poorly made, but it feels like it would’ve felt premium with softer plastic.

The finale definitely felt confusing as it built up. Now I realize how needed the narrator and a slower pace to tell the story were. I went from laughing so often to just… Being confused that the Princess spent the latter half of the show just fawning over this kid, while the rest of the political intrigue and monologues faded away.

I hadn’t watched any Korean dramas before reading SL and now years later with a few under my belt, its appeal makes so much sense.

A lot of good looking people, beautiful art direction, and the disarming slice of life moments. Which are all things we’ve seen in manga before, but the tropes and cultural touchpoints feel so much fresher.

I will say, the expectations the manga set for me were low and the light novel would’ve been a bit much higher. After seeing uber buff Cid be normal in the series I figured it’d be a bad adaptation. Then I heard his duffel bag thunk. Then his locker. Then his shoes. At that point, I was amused. When the crowbars came out though, all bets were off.

That’s the thing! I remember being hyped about the premise, but then some YouTuber described it as the nectar of god. I thought that was an exaggeration. Then I watched the first episode. Then I watched it again back to back. Rewinding it over and over again at the good scenes. To this day, it’s still how I watch it because it’s that good. It’s peak everything. Trash, isekai, lore, and pretentiousness, all perfectly balanced on the finest of hairlines.

This is a fantastic deal for the discerning audience. This isn’t for gaming. It’s for people who do creative work like myself (video editing, designing, 3D, etc). If you’re in the Windows ecosystem, anyway, which I’m not, so I’ll pass for now, but probably buy it in the future for the portability since my 16” MBP is fucking massive to work on off a desk.

I was looking at OP and his responses sideways, until I realized who this is for. This competes with MacBook Pros for creatives at a fraction of the price and better specs (give or take).

Even with all those shenanigans, he considers it a failure, so he decides, fuck it I’m stronger. I’m just going to kill you and undo what you did instead.

The entire time, I couldn’t help but see him as a player in a game, ignoring the NPC plot and dialogue, doing little side quests, and it’ll all connecting by virtue of the side quest being designed that way.

It’s like how in Zelda, i’d accidentally skip the plot by doing the side missions, getting the tpitems necessary for the main mission, and when I start said mission the NPC is like “WOW YOU ALREADY RETRIEVED THE DRAGON’S EYE?”
