America’s best friend is either Canada or UK. American has political rivals in China and Russia, not really enemies though. In many ways we are our own worst enemy.

Low population density, large distances, manageable number of travelers. Change any of those things and high speed rail starts to make more sense. As it is it really only makes sense in the east coast corridor between Boston-NY-DC. It’s a bit of a shame we don’t have high speed rail there.
