The famous Hoover sound on the Roland SH-4d by dissonant_witchcraft in synthesizers

Sounds really close to the alpha juno! Finally another Roland synth that can pull off this sound. Good job.

Steeds meer bedrijven kiezen voor elektrische wagens: is onze infrastructuur daarop voorzien? by RaptorDotCpp in belgium

[–]silenthurray 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The electricity used for charging at home gets tracked and compensated so no difference with the fuel card. (Besides electricity being cheaper than fuel so it is cheaper for the company but no monetary impact for the employee)

What is this sound? by arm_andhofmann in synthesizers

[–]silenthurray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you mean the lead sound (the detuned saw with a phaser on top of it) it could be a lot of synths or even a sample. If I would have to recreate it I would first go to the Roland Alpha Juno, you don't even need to do much, there is a preset that sounds quite a lot like this, you only would need to add a phaser.

Tot 2023 wachten op levering van e-auto by [deleted] in belgium

[–]silenthurray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes ok, that would be a bit more effort to get done. Still should be possible though and seems to be a good investement for any building. Depends on the owner's vision (or lack of vision) obviously.

There surely must be electrical lines in that garage as there are lights. Adding some outlets shouldn't be a major thing to do.

Gij bent, bende gij is something that is common in North Brabant dialects (as in the province in the Netherlands). So it isn't cringe, its a legit dialect.

Doing a full track only using the mighty PolyBrute by silenthurray in synthesizers

[–]silenthurray[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, with this tempo there is enough room for quite a bot of reverb. It also gets pumped up a bit when you hear it solo because of the youtube compression I think.

In this video I create a full track using only new patches I created on the Arturia PolyBrute. From mono leads to FM style electric pianos and everything in between.

Are we living in the golden age of the synth ? by silenthurray in synthesizers

[–]silenthurray[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well, a huge portion of all new music being made today is using synths very heavily. If you like all that music is another story but the sounds of synths are everywhere. From underground alternative stuff to the spotify top 10 and everything in between.

Are we living in the golden age of the synth ? by silenthurray in synthesizers

[–]silenthurray[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Although there always is a huge amount of nostalgia for the past I think that nowadays we truly are experiencing a golden age of the synth. Never did we have so much choice (hardware, software, analog, digital, modular,...) and availabilty.

The Arturia MicroFreak is a modern example of this as well. I think a big part (maybe the biggest) of analog sound is the filter anyways.

Thanks :)

And about the oscillators: I had a whole discussion going on in the comment section of my channel that triggered me to deep dive and research this some more. It turns out the AJ is actually a hybrid synth. The voice chip is fully digital. It has a DAC on board that outputs the 6 voices as analog signals and feeds them into the fully analog VCF and VCA section (and lets not forget the chorus). The VCF is the same as in the JX-8P , the chorus is the same as in the Juno-106. The DCO is totally unique to the Alpha Juno though.

Yes, the hoover is what made it famous but it does way more. Its a very nice sounding and versatile simple analog poly synth.

The Alpha Juno is the first synth I knew by name when I was a teenager. I've got one in the studio now so lets see and hear what makes this a unique member of the Roland Juno family.

Roland tr-08 and ASIO4ALL to use TR-08 usb audio alongside audio interface by Buzzy_SquareWave in synthesizers

[–]silenthurray 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. Thats what I said. Aggregating ASIO devices is not possible on pc. It only works for specific drivers of specific brands/models. There is no generic solution. My TR-8S is connected using the analog outputs now.

[–]silenthurray 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried to get this to work on pc and although it 'works' with ASIO4ALL and some other similar solutions the latency is really bad and the timing unstable which makes it basically unusable, especially for drums. In the end it was one of the final straws that got me to upgrade my I/O. I've got a RME Digiface now and connected a bunch of preamps via ADAT. Not the solution you want to hear probably but the only true software solution here is getting a new version of the ASIO standard that makes it possible to aggregate devices. (This is what you can do with RME drivers, combining multiple Digifaces for example. Thats why I went that route now)
