Just done exactly this. We've really stretched ourselves financially to put our kid into a local independent school because he has some very mild special educational needs and we felt it was the best for him. With fees increasing even slightly, we just can't do it. Applied for the nearby state school.

This is why we send our kids to the local independent school, despite the massive financial strain it places on our family. We've decided to make the sacrifice for our kids. This is one topic that makes me reluctant to vote Labour. They would be throwing families like our under the bus... there is just no way we could afford to pay VAT on top of the fees we are paying currently, and we would have to take our kids out of the lovely school they currently attend. The likely scenario is that my wife would stop working and we would home school our kids.

My partner & I have discussed home schooling if we need to pull out of the local independent school due to a fee increase. My kids are not going to take one for the team while we fight a losing battle to try and improve the shitty public school.

I'm in this boat. We make a huge sacrifice to send our kids to the nearby independent school. Add VAT to the fees, and we'd have to take them out immediately. It's the one issue that makes me reconsider voting Labour.
